Yes, I can rate more games... Bring it on

I’ve rated over 160+ games in this jam, and I’m feeling a bit tired. Some entries are just asset flips with pretty covers, and I struggle to rate them fairly. It’s not that I hate them—I know many devs are beginners, and harsh criticism can discourage them. But giving them a high score might send the wrong message.

What frustrates me is that some creators don’t rate others’ games. Maybe they’re shy or lazy, but it leaves the scoring to just a few of us. Also, while we give feedback, a lot of it is just “Nice game, rate mine”—which isn’t helpful. (I get it, though—I also like hearing “Nice game!”, but not when it’s followed by a 1-star rating across the board.)

I’m a little burned out, but I’ll keep judging (no one asked me to, but it’s fun and I’ve found some gems!). I’ll just slow down. If you want me to check your game, comment below—though I’ve probably already rated it! And if you’d like to play my entry and give feedback, I’d really appreciate it! I only have 38 ratings, so it would be extremely appreciated.

OVERCHAOS!!!

I hope to see your game. Sorry if I don't find it sooner.

I completely agree with everything you mentioned. Many people have jobs, families, and responsibilities outside of here, so they don’t always have time to play and rate every game. It’s understandable, but it does make things harder for those who put in the effort. Hopefully, more people will engage with constructive feedback rather than just asking for ratings.

My game, Rico 1, is not a template. It is like Mario, but a few features are different, which you can see in the help area. Play it on https://gd.games/phantom-games/rico-1 or https://itch.io/jam/gdevelop-big-game-jam-7/rate/3567660

I understand your point of view, especially with my 15 ratings. I'm at the bottom of the pile like many others. Perhaps a system that would force participants to vote for a minimum number of games would be interesting to test but I don't think that's possible here. Jams are always great to do but I agree that the results can sometimes be not very fair compared to the enormous commitment of some jamers.

I hope my rating do some good, you also can review my game and post a comment, maybe some like what you say about my game and then trys yours. That the way I move when I judge others games... Clearly isn't work, but it's better than wait itch shows your game. Good luck.

To be fair, your game has a lot ratings. I'm rating based on the least rated games, since they are the ones that need it the most. Mine only has 15, and there are a few with even less.

Is the ratio and how people just put their projects and forget that part of a game jam is that we can know each other and try to make our products better and sometimes I feel pointless, helpless. Gdevelop is a product I love, I like. So I want to be part of the community, but... Oh well. Hey, your game is nice. Just needs more time, I leave some notes in the page and a review if you want to review my game and leave me your notes WOULD BY GREAT!.

I am trying to get as many games played as I can but this is also a bad thing.

You are trying to get loads done in a short time so you tend to only play a few minutes of a game.(Less I guess if you get stuck or game controls are not obvious )

I try to play at least 5 minutes minimum but will play longer if the game hooks me. Unfortunately some games are just asset flips and i don't tend to play those too long.

Games like Oni-Powered I found myself coming back to a few times as it has a great repeatability.

Thats nice,  you can do that give it a try, and if the game doesn't work for you, then you leave a rating and move to the games you like. If you have like something that can help or benefit the game, go for it, if not, just leave the rating and move one with more games they are almost 400 games. So I think give on game the benefits of 5 minutes of your time (And more if you like it) Thats awesome. You are playing nice. Good Jammer play other games (That could by a T-Shirt).

That's quite the effort! I'm going on 110 and I would be glad to reach even 150 by the end! I kind of agree, that it's quite annoying to see spammy entries that are just asset flips or not even that. Just an unedited sample project. I'm pretty sure we should just report those, as they are against the rules. They're basically stealing a rate away from a legitimate contender as there's  no way to get to all of them. Some of them have been removed, but a few remain. Still, I hear ya, gotta be graceful to the noobies...

The way I look at it is like this.

Yes they are asset flips or just the actual example project but just because they have ratings does not mean they might win or take away from others. Hear me out.

If example game had high rating count but other games that Dev made from scratch only has a low amount. This example game might receive only 1 star across the board and the other game might have higher star scores. This would mean that yes the non example game had fewer rarting but gets an overall higher score.

Yes the game someone worked hard on got less plays but at least they know that they didn't just use an example project.  They should be proud of that.

Example projects should not of been allowed or at least have a separate rating system or Jam. Maybe a Jam aimed at newer Devs or people that are new to gdevelop.

(This is all just my opinion.)

Yeah, I get what ur saying. And to a margin, yes.  What I was getting at, was that if I'm stuck playing asset flip games, my time is kinda wasted in terms of playing actual games. I might not get to the game I would have liked or rated the highest. Beginner or not, there should be some kind of effort made. They're not gonna win by simply posting nonsense and claiming it their own. It's overall bad for them and the others. I actually kind of like to play beginner level games that may not have the polish, but have the spirit. Might actually get a higher score from me that way. Then again, there is the "report" button if foul play is suspected. That should be enough for sorting it out.
(Just my opinion here as well :) )

Yea I see what you are saying. It is a shame that so many games turned out to be asset flips.

I do tend to just play a little of a flip game just to see if there is any effort but most times i don't see enough.

I also agree with what you say about beginner level games. They can be fun if you look beyond the bugs or bad code etc and even inspire your own ideas.

Do you think they should of said no templates? or made it clear that a game has to have a certain amount changed or added for it to count?

I think asset flips are explicitly prohibited in the rules. But somehow these remaining ones have either found a way around, or yet undetected. The focus being on "just" an asset flip. I suppose we'll see if some are still dropped when the judges period starts.

I think templates are ok, when used properly within the rules.
