Theme

Freedom

How does it fit the theme?
This is a soundtrack for a game about going on vacation from the city to a village. The connection is loose but I feel like moving somewhere else can be liberating.

Intro Theme wastes no time in establishing the genre, and this might (surprisingly) be the first submission I've come across that is pure chiptune. Loving the various use of oldschool techniques here to really get the most out of each wave and channel.

Overworld Day has some delicious oldschool percussion - who knew noise could be so groovy? Melodies here are delightful and play off of one another really nice. More examples of good usage of the likes of vibrato and automation to squeeze every last drop of usability out of the waves.

Overworld Night plays with some lovely contrast in comparison to day theme. An almost lazy sounding rhythm at the beginning that soon gives way to some busier work, but without fringing into the "upbeat" territory. I wouldn't say there are "lullaby" vibes to this, but it captures that drowsy feeling perfectly.

The Date comes in with a surprise - I was not expecting that intro. It feels somewhat tense in the beginning, leaning heavily into the significance of the title of the track. In typical fashion, it opens up later and features some really nice ear candy. Playful and catchy melodies in this one.

Finally, Ending plays to all of the strengths of 8-bit. I feel like I could envision this track in particular fitting into so many games of that era, to the point where I feel as though you could just drop it into any game and not realize it wasn't "meant" to be there. Great way to round out the soundtrack.

Great work - first proper chiptune submission I've come across, and it was a delight to listen to. Brought me back. Best of luck!

i love how well you captivated the chiptune sounds, though of course you're using the appropriate DAW to do so. :3 i REALLY enjoyed "Overworld Night" because of how lively it gets at 0:25; it's a nice change of pace that also implies a plethora of activities to still do at nighttime within the videogame concept you have! i can imagine playing some GameBoy Color as these tracks play...

"The Date" with it's brief silences in the beginning before transitioning to a more busy and exciting section was awesome too! overall, i adored the soundtrack and the tracks you were able to compose; awesome job!

Really nice chip tune vibes! I think on the first tune, when the melody comes in, maybe pull back the volume of the first patch, to make some space for the other new stuff!

Great job!

Cool chiptune tracks !

I think my favorite is Overworld - Night, I'm not sure why but I just love the mood of it :D

Very pleasing to listen to, well done !

This kind of reminded me of like flash games or google games which is super neat!

I'm not very good at writing chiptune so I like when others can do it so well. They were all unique but still cohesive so great job!

YES A TRACKER SUB! i respect this so much!!

This shit slaps! i love chiptune so I'm trying really hard not to be biased LOL.
I particularly liked that Overworld Day theme, almost has that "just departed from a village vibe" to it. So charming

Fellow tracker submission! Style feels very cohesive and i like how the melodies sort of weave in and out, it feels surprisingly varied. I agree that the mixing is a little harsh but mixing with trackers be tough, my submission definitely also has this problem lol

The vibes here remind me of the Star Of Providence OST (which is really good) with it's lighthearted vibes and various melodic elements coming in and out of all the tracks. My personal favourite's gotta be "The Date" though, I love the melody and the transition from the quiet intro to the main section of the track.

Interesting, thank you, I can't say I've heard of that game or its composer. To be honest, the stuff about the melodic elements and my track structures is probably just caused by the way I approached leitmotifs, which is to say that I don't do leitmotifs often.

I like how you use a tracker instead of a DAW, but that's not part of the scoring. The feel is nice, but I think some parts could be better mixed (the opener sounds too loud for example).

Thank you, I was a bit concerned about that kind of stuff indeed, and I guess for the next time I really should aim for more consistent mixing.

I can't fathom the work you must have put into your submission. It's super clean, well made and enjoyable. I have nothing to say other that I was picturing the game on my game boy already lol.

Thank you so much. Honestly it was more creative work in this case than technical (and it's more creative work at once than I'm used to, I will say that) but I should've managed my time better, though I was super stressed out, not having participated in jams in a while.
