Oh my goodness! I need to give a heads up this is going to be a very long comment!

This, was, brilliant! The interface was easy to use, the references were great.

Some suggestions for future levels either for you, or Zoe, perhaps both alternating again!

Hot chocolate

Warm cookies with various toppings chocolate, sinimon maybe?

Then for even bigger expansions:

Following up on customers where you don't have the order. You could get coins for successful orders and then buy recipes in, so for the person who wanted that decaf she could come back later and you could surprise her!

Customers commenting on how their order is, if you got it perfect, if it's a bit overheated but if you try again and get it right next time they might like you, or some might storm out or give less or such.

So you could get some achievements for that.

somehow I missed this comment!
thank you very much! I love your ideas.
it's been almost a year but know that i assembled a team and we are working on making a full game.
A new demo will be out on steam in mid-April <3

I had an absolute blast with this game. You can really tell everyone working on it had fun creating it and I had just as much fun playing. Blind-friendly cooking games in general is something we don't really have so this actually fills a nich. The concept is also executed very well, with gameplay that's both simple to pick up but also taking a lot of memorisation if you want to do well. The audio is great, the voice acting and characters got many laughs out of me and the chill lofi music playing in the background fits the vibe perfectly. Definitely one of my favorites!

Developer

Thank you! Your comment fills my heart <3

I hope to keep developing this game and publish a full version

This game was a treat! The voice acting and writing and all the bizarre customers made it so funny, I actually laughed out loud. The sound effects and music set the scene perfectly. The difficulty was just right for me, it was a fun challenge to remember the customer's order, while also remembering which steps to make each item, and also how to operate each station! The controls for each station were varied enough to avoid feeling repetitive. The interactive tutorial was very well implemented, helpful, and even funny at the same time. I mostly played with my eyes closed, and I felt like blind players get to enjoy the full experience, they aren't missing out.

I think the game is the right length and complexity, and doesn't need any more gameplay added to it. I thought of the idea that maybe some customers could be in a hurry and you have a time limit to make their order, but on second thought that would ruin the cozy mood of the game. The game is just right, the way it is now. Great work!

This game was really excellent! One that I will be replaying long after the rating period ends. I can really tell that you took the jam seriously. I like the well thought out, high quality sound design and chill music. I like the funny voice script, the excellent [and well recorded] human voice acting, and the humor injected into the AI voices. I love the player comfort touches you added, like F as an alternate cup throwing key, Q to skip the tutorial and R to repeat a line, and that you took the time to make such a comprehensive help menu. This earns you a few cognitive accessibility points as well!

I do feel that some quiet background ambience would liven things up a bit, and some kind of reward for being fast would be cool too. As it stands, the game is quite forgiving, which is nice, but a harder mode with penalties for failure would be an exciting option to have. Saved progress would also be a nice to have, but it's not that important in a jam game. As well, more randomized customers would be interesting, though I understand why they show up as a progression ATM.

Thank you very much to everyone who worked on this game, you seriously kicked ass! And just sayin, if you decide to add to it a little and make it a paid game, I would absolutely buy it. Hell, I'd buy it in it's current state as well, if that was an option...

Great job on the submission! I really loved this game, and it was super fun to play. The Voice Acting all around was great, and while this genre of game isn't usually my go to, I really enjoyed it, especially when it got to the frothing on the second set of customers. I think you did a really good job with the tutorials and guiding players along (admittedly, I had some struggles getting the ice cream for the afagato, but everything else was really smooth).

Developer

Thank you so much! What was with the icecream that you struggled with?

Submitted(+1)

It totally could have been that I misheard the instructions, but I had tried making the espresso first, and then putting the ice cream in - in retrospect (since I've made them before in real life) I probably had that backwards, but there wasn't a clear affordance in the tutorial that that is what was wrong (if that's what I messed up) - rapidly pressing space for the ice cream just failed when I had the cup of espresso.

I guess, at least for the tutorial, having some sort of feedback on what I was doing wrong would be good - but that's definitely beyond the scope of a normal game jam.

Note: When I went to run the game again just now, I discovered the pause menu with all the descriptions of drinks and machines - that is a super nice touch (even if it wouldn't have helped in this scenario 😅).

Developer

actually you can do both orders to make an affogato (ice cream first or affogato first) . The problem was maybe that you didnt press fast enough?

Running a cafe while blind: I like it!

This video game is accessible and easy to understand: it's awesome!

Great job with the update that addressed all the common concerns from the comments. Great game. Stellar acting. Yeah, even the new trainer ;)

This is amazing! Maybe have a way to rehear how to make the different kinds of drinks, I got as far as having to remember what a cappuccino was and couldn't.

The first demo was good and the update is even better! I love the random characters showing up and their interactions. This game has lots of potential to get expanded with more levels or a story mode. Definitely one of mi favorite entries in this jam.

LMAO at Zoe, she made me cringe about as hard as one can. Kudos to the VA who played her. Also the Spongebob and plankton AI voices.

It was fun; eager for more.

Okay so it wasn't just me then! At first I was scared to say anything because I thought maybe she wasn't trying to be annoying, but with all of the other humor touches, I really think she was. I guess the fact that I couldn't tell for sure if it was honest or over the top just proves that it was well done... LOL
She also has a fantastic recording setup it seems. And while I'm not dunking on VAs that don't, it was still a nice change for a jam.

This was a great idea with great voice acting! I know it's been mentioned, but not having a way to relisten to an order makes a cozy game turn into a stressful memory and hearing test. Especially since the the audio seemed to have an odd mixing/leveling so some of the voices seem too quite or a bit muddy to completely follow. Making not having the reminder for order even more stressful lol.

The main gameplay played very well in itself. Using the espresso machine, selecting the cups and delivering them to the register all worked well. I personally enjoy using a gamepad over keyboard controls so having a option between both would have been great. I also believe the ctrl key for discarding was a bit out o place. Just a very minor nitpick there though.

Overall, fantastic voice acting with solid enough gameplay. More polish and more mechanics could be a full release type of game. Especially if you did add the chit chat function with customers.

Possible Bug Report:
also not sure if this was a bug or not, but towards the end of my play session it sounded like  a customer came in but I switched over to the espresso machine and no order was given and nothing was happening.  I would have restarted but the intro is a bit of a time sink to make it back through. So I never got to the second day or got to make food. (Not sure if that was actually implemented or not.)

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! Soon we'll upload an update with all the points fixed

Fantastic experience. Really good all around.

I'll second some comments already made. Some way to make the customer repeat the order is an urgent must. Maybe have the customer repeat the order when they get the wrong stuff instead of the wap-wap. I got stuck in the tutorial because I couldn't guess one of the coffees I didn't hear when ordered. And yeah, a way to skip the tutorial.

But the game is just beautifully thought and made. The sound is fun, clear, and helpful. The graphics are sharp and simple and helpful even without my glasses. The whole package is just tidy and fresh. Amazing job.

Developer

Thank You!

Very soon we'll release an update :)

This was amazing, I need more of this one! Hope the team member gets better fast so you can extend on this game.

The voice acting (and sound design in general) was insane, I had this huge smile during the whole (unfortunately too short) gameplay :D

One thing though : I don’t think you can do anything while waiting for the coffee to fill, maybe be able to prepare the next drink or maybe chat with the customers as suggested during the tutorial

Anyway reaaaaaally loved this and hope to get more content <3

Developer

More will come! :)

Thank you for the feedback!

It’s cozy, indeed! And with great concept and execution. My biggest suggestion is to implement a way for the customer to repeat their order, because I can’t even remember two coffees! Otherwise I’m excited to see how this gets finished. The way I might approach the concept is to make it endless, but something finite with a story would be delightful too. Nice work!

Thank you! an update will be released soon!

I couldn’t find you on Discord so here goes a long feedback:

First:

Ohmygosh ZOE!!!! You are SOOOO expressive. I had a lot of fun in the tutorial at the start. She can sound a slightly condescending in one line, but not in all. The process is mostly really funny and engaging. I had a laugh when I threw the cup away, and also when she came to pretend she was a costumer and made her voice deeper. I was also amused at other times, for example when she mimiced the espresso machine sounds.

Mechanics-wise:

  • I would use a different control for throwing out the cup. Ctrl is a bit out of reach for my fingers.
  • I am missing a command to listen to a line again. Specifically with a reminder about what the costumer asked for. Still in the tutorial.
  • There is also some fine-tuning to be done regarding when we have the wrong coffee.
  • Plus there is no way to skip the tutorial.

Here’s what happened in the long version and my full feedback. I was so amused at listening to her pretend she was a costumer that I missed what she wanted. So I didn’t know what she wanted.

And apparently if I have a coffee that’s the wrong one she keeps going “wap-wap”. So I’m stuck here fooorever?

Which leads me to dread that I might have to listen to the whole intro again when I try to restart.

I may have found bugs. Here’s what I did:

  1. Get medium cup. Make double espresso. Try to give it to the lady. She will go “wap-wap”. Now go get a big cup. It will make the sound of getting the cup, but how can I have it if I’m still carrying the other one? Bring the cup to the espresso machine and double press space. Nothing happens. Try throwing it away. It doesn’t always respond to that. Go get the big cup again, go back to the espresso machine and try making the coffee pressing double space. I hear no feedback. I opened my eyes and saw two coffee beans and a checkmark. How, if I didn’t hear the audio feedback for that? I guess it has a checkmark, so I’m bringing it to my costumer. But she goes wap-wap again.

The music is chill and pleasing.

Restarting, I think it would be an excellent addition to have her say “Do you need some instructions to get around here? Press the up and down arrows to decide.” - then if we say we don’t need instructions she’ll say “Do you want a practice test where I pretend to be a costumer?” and we can do the same.

The game has so much potential, but these bugs (no reminder for what the costumer wants, these functional bugs with no audio feedback for what’s happening and the no way to skip the tutorial) are unfortunate events that got me dreading a little to try again. I think I would love to try again but I don’t trust I will always know what the costumer wants, so I wonder if this could be fixed for the end version of the game?

Amazing work, keep it up.

Hi!

First of all thank you so much for playing and giving your feedback.

There will be help and full reset of the stands features in the game they just haven't been recorded yet.

I will add a feature to skip the tutorial.

Abput the Ctrl button, you cam also use the right ctrl button which is closer. What other button would ypu rather use?

Thanks again

Submitted (1 edit)

Great! I can’t wait for that. I definitely want to try it when it’s updated because I was having so much fun. And I can’t hope to enjoy just as much the remaining of the game.

Personally I think to throw out the cup F is easy to reach, just like D. F has the little bump dot and it’s close to the spacebar and it doesn’t need much acrobatics.

Shift is not as comfortable as those but would be slightly better than Ctrl (in that case I’d put Help in H, which is also a standard help button).

But I will try Ctrl just like you said!

Developer

oh and btw, you dont need to close your eyes. Ypu can press backspace to toggle of the visuals :)

I've written it in the description but maybe i should add a hint

Submitted

Oh I saw it in the description but with eyes closed I can rest them (plus if I get lost I can take a peek) :) but I think it’s cool to have that option.

I managed to reach the end by serving the few customers you had made. I know that it was said that your game was unfinished but I think what you have is really good and certainly is a lot more than I expected. I like the thumbnail and the braille with the coffee beans is a nice touch. Your voice is very clear and the wording is great. For me, the fun part was listening to what the different customers say and having the conversation going on while filling the cup was a good thing. I definitely see potential in your game and hope you add more to it in the future

Developer(+1)

Hi! Thank you very much for the feedback :)
