Wow that was fun. Obviously there is room for improvement but it's really fun to play.

Heh, was waiting for this comic to be translated into a game, and you delivered! Had a pony island like feel to it. The standout was the loading screen with forks stabbing you. The Mario level felt a little flat though. Good job on mashing classic game genres and classical music!

Wow really is better than the thumbnail makes it look glad I played loved it!

Anyway one thing I do want to mention is I'm doing a review of design on the games in this jam so here's a shameless plug to my channel if you want to be notified of the vid when released:

hi man thanks for the review,

im really bad at drawing so the thumbnail is , ehm ...  representative i guess,

hopefully you tried the game despite it :D .

im waiting to see the video you post about the jam ( this game probably wont feature but still).

(Well you may be proved wrong 'wink' 'wink'

My XKCD game jam analysis is out!

This review contains SPOILERS!

Overall, I really enjoyed this game.  It took a great concept from the comics and stretched it into a full experience that I really liked.  Love the different games you choose and the things you took away from them.

The music is very well chosen--loved the classical stuff in here.  My favorite was the "loading" level with Hall of the Mountain King--the fact that the people stop throwing spears at you when the music stops was chilling, almost.  And the twist that the person who wanted to punish you is your old gaming controller is genius!  I do wish that the grammar in this game was better--it really hindered the dialogue and the experience (btw, who was the blue person at the end?).  And the Mario level, when played in full at the end, is pretty difficult to maneuver; the controls don't feel smooth enough at all.

But those are rather minor complaints--this game is overall well designed and done quite well (and I must congratulate you for recreating Mario 1-1 with a nice pen and paper style).  Nice job!

hello, thank for such a long review. :D

glad you liked the concept, i think most people would agree the loading screen with the devils was the best part of the gameplay.

sorry for the grammar issue we didn't take time to correct them , we were short on time and awakeness. :(

And for the mario level , i totally agree it should have had a way better feeling to it, doesnt feel mario control at all. i spent too much time on recreating the level .

This was great, and comedically speaking it's one of the better ones of the jam. The use of the classical music was A+.

It's funny that you used the In the hall of the mountain king,as I had mentioned that in one of the other submissions that it would be a funny song to use. T

he part with that song and the devils throwing forks was fantastic. It may have been a bit unpolished but I can tell that your younger kids, as the humor is just way too good.

hi, thanks for taking the time to review.

very happy you liked the game, we wanted it to be funny , i hope it was.

we are quite new to making games, if you have any insight about the game i woulk like to hear them. :)

Yep! It was quite funny.

My only advice would be continue to do game jam's and learn to improve on the process of creation, when your young it's easy to compare yourself to multi million dollar studios and defeat yourself before you start.

Keep going at it! Making Game Jam  games is great way to learn how to accomplish deadlines, and have a finished product out, being young all I can see is you can take this further. Be doing this in your spare time you'll be able to build up a solid skill set, and when your old enough (Like mid-late high school) consider making a full time game.

You have plenty of time, don't discourage yourself, and continue to do well in school and work on games and you'll do great.

Good luck Solmir!

i am  but im pretty im older than you think ^^

im already a dev student. :)

Oh, my bad! - my sincerest apologies!!

no problem, nothing offensive in what you said. :)

The best was the arrows, since the music fit it quite well. In the mario style game, the timing of the jumps and the walking posture of the stickfigure made it feel like moving in a liquid slightly denser than air.

hello, thanks for the review.

the feeling of the mario playstyle was kinda off i didnt take the time to make it better , :( sorry for the inconvenience.

Hope you still liked the game . if you have any other idea on what could change i would be glad to hear them .

Haha this game is so troll-y I love it. Could have used a bit more polish though. I almost did my game on the same comic, only a dice roll convinced me to do a different one.

hi , thanks for the review.

we agree the game needs some more work , we did lack time at the end, glad you still found it fun :).

it could have been fun to see a different take on the same comic.
