What a heartfelt game!

The art is impressive - custom stuff through and through, used well to tell the story. Same goes for the sound effects.

While the gameplay is mostly just going from story point to story point a la walking simulator, I appreciated having the mine cart puzzles to keep things interesting. I also liked that when I messed up and fell down a hole I was instantly restarted back at the beginning of the area, and not have to load a save. Maybe not terribly challenging or deep, but appropriate for what you were going for.

The game didn't feel like it overstayed its welcome, either. Just enough length to feel like the story was told without too many shortcuts, and still not feeling like it was dragging or trying to pad itself out.

While this isn't the type of thing I'd normally play nor would I enjoy it for long, I respect the effort it took to craft this experience and liked what I saw. Well done!

Thank you for giving it a go and for your heartfelt feedback! I definitely thrive in that walking sim genre haha and I’m working going forward on branching out more to challenge myself. Finding nice communities like this where people will to give you their time is such a boon and so helpful on the journey.

I think this is by far one of my favorite games because this feels like something that we all can relate to in some way. You did a good job capturing what it feels like to be left alone and think no one will hear you when you need them. And I think the story gives enough for us to know what's going on without having to hammer the situation into our heads. The puzzles felt challenging enough that they were rewarding to complete without being frustrating to figure out. The enemies might need some tweaking; I was literally in front of one and it didn't notice me. All in all, a very good job. I love how the hawk WAS the central focus without actually being focused on too much - I think if he had been portrayed any differently, the ending wouldn't be as powerful. That was a really good choice.

Thank you so much!! One of my big weaknesses is the, let's say, programmatic side of things so I try and keep it simple. I knew posting it that that whole sneak section was still just meh and not exactly how I wanted it. Definitely needs some tweaking. Ironically in the spirit of the story I'm trying to be nice to myself about it, lol. But I'm really really glad the story and message is resonating with people. I get better with each game I work on and I'm always appreciative to people giving my projects their time and attention <3

Originally, I was giving this a 2 star because of the softlock Firecat mentioned but after playing it and seeing the overall story, I can see how there is quite the strong emotional resonance within this story. Well done.  The writing is pretty subtle and decent and while I know the Hawk is pretty much gone gone thanks to the miasma breath and the abuse alongside the boy's incredibly low self esteem and negativity permeating throughout his dialogue (even though there is a light at the end of this dark flight within this tunnel).  And while there are some awkward positioning and probably the visual presentation of the UI, the boy and the baddies could have been a bit better, its unique and stands out and that's what matters.

Honestly, if the presentation was a bit more cleaner and the gameplay was a less buggy in some areas, this would have been an easy 5 star for me.

very helpful feedback! With each jam and project I’m learning my scope and capacity and how to reign it in a bit more haha. I like doing game jams but also I always  end them thinking only about all the things I wish I had time to polish. Very grateful for this community’s kind words and time. <3

This game legit made me cry. My dog also came into my life during a very dark time and when she died it felt like there was nothing I could do... I think my personal reaction to this game made me give you the score I did even though it gave me a negative one. First Game Jam game to give me these emotions.

Thank you for these kind words! I hope it was cathartic at least, I know I always love to process my grief and sadness through stories and storytelling. I think metaphors and stories are some of the best ways to understand our world and interpersonal relationships, like the love you have for a pet. <3

This was insanely unique and had a beautiful art, sprites, story telling. It was very intriguing. I did not expect this take on hawk either...very very creative. I think this is may favorite so far

I quite like the writing and presentation of this one. The hawk as a little parrot is cute, rest in peace little guy...
Small issue: it's possible to get softlocked in the stealth room if you get sent back to the start while the minecarts are in a spot where you can't push them out of the way from that side

Thanks for giving it a go! Really good heads up, it's so hard with puzzles like that to think of all the soft lock possibilities, haha. Really helpful feedback <3
