We've been mostly running it through our discord! This started as a little bonus jam for the RPG Maker Horror and Themed jam community. You can join here https://discord.gg/aEHqY9vF
And I will assign you the theme :
Theme: Mystical Gemstones
Bonus Challenges:
1 - Gem Sockets: The player is able to put gems into sockets (be it on equipment or somewhere else), which improves their stats or unlocks new skills/abilities.
2 - Crystal Cave: The game features a crystal cave as a location.
3 - Sparkling Gemstone: There's a scene in the game where the protagonist finds a sparkling gemstone.
Have fun and let us know if you have any questions!
I am so curious at the Eldridge implications and world building of this universe! The aesthetic was super cute, loved all the character designs and the dramatic lighting and palette of the rooms. I agree with KV that I wish there was an option for disabling head bobbing. It's clearly not done but I think jams are a great place for putting out a demo to get some feedback and have a stronger footing to step off of from there. Really cool!
Really neat idea, like being placed in a box to write stories for some entity. It has a good ground to stand on, I hope you come back and add more to this! It'd be cool to see how many branches of story there are to find. Feels like the vibe of Stanley Parable but about a writer, in a way. Cool environments too!
(omg!!! Oxy!!!!! Ahhhh!!!! sorry not sorry you're typing from the beyooooOOOOOOooonnnd now haha. Thank you so much for your comment you mean so much the community!! The care and time you put in just shines, fr fr. I did so many weird things with this game haha, I'm glad it barely seems like an RM game that was high key my intention. It's always a fun challenge to try and do a story with no dialogue, I really loved what I'd done for Drift Away and wanted to bring some of that back onto the table. And yeah the hit boxes are weird, probably my biggest risk of the game. I was SOOO worried that her ghostly tail wouldn't make sense as the thing you had to line up to interact with stuff, I made all of the sprites two boxes tall so it's an illusion that you have to line up your head to interact with them (so the glowly light sprite for example has a blank square where you click on it and the top square is the glow, to compensate for the tall 2 square tall MC) (You can't change the hit box for an RM main character, it'll always be the bottom middle of the sprite T_T). Risky and breaks the "rules" of an RM game enough it's probably just confusing but it was a fun challenge either way to think through that lol.
So glad you liked the art and the music! I was so worried about the music cuz there's no words and the music matters a lot more with that kind of story. I'm slowly getting better and better at making music lol. Braver and braver. one of these days I'll even stop just using Beepbox haha. Sorry you ran into a bug! i've heard of a few that sound really like the engine crapping itself. I'm super stretching RM for all it's worth and did my best to make it as stable as possible but I'm doing *weird shit* with the engine again haha. Always feel free to ping me in the RPG maker jam server if you want to know how I did anything! Nothing is crazy complicated, just took a lot of tweaking and coffee and tears.
You're a wonderful human being!! oohhhoooOOOOHHHHOoooohhhh!!!!)
I love a debrief haha it’s so interesting to read other ppls process. I gasped when I read it crashed with 45 mins to go haha. Glad yall got it working and good team work!
I’ve noticed in all these games in terms of balance I think jams are a good showcase opportunity for a proof of concept and it’s always good to skew balance in favor of the player. You’ll almost never get bad feedback saying it’s too easy but it’s rly common for stuff to be too hard. And for such a short time frame you want to show all the cool stuff you’ve made without skill being a barrier. I haven’t played ur game yet I just saw you post on discord but in terms of the debate of how to teach ur players and how to balance the resources etc.
I like to plan it all out, test if the game loop will work or is fun and then make the pieces and puzzle it all together. I’ve done lots of jams but normally much longer ones so this work flow felt familiar but on fast forward haha.
Looking forward to trying yalls game later! This was an interesting read!
awesome! Yeah I loved ur project thanks for making it haha. And ahh thanks yeah I had the idea before the jam theme was announced and couldn’t rly think of how to make it fit the theme well so i pivoted to my much lighter in tone game I ended up submitting lol. But it’s def on my ideas list and I’ll ping you if I make it!
This is such a funny and cute idea, a really clever take on the mechanic and I liked the art style! I hope you come back to this and keep making games, this shows a good eye for level design for sure!
I also got stuck around the robot level but like the slow roll out of the mechanics and the pieces of the puzzle.
This was cool!! I get the vision. I found the code, entered it and when I clicked on the damaged wall it said I shouldn't set off a bomb in a room with gas. Is that the only end other than letting the timer run out? Did I do it wrong?
But either way good job on getting this done in the time frame! Good references haha
Ahh this is so cute! I love the pixel art and the flow of the game feels very intuitive and fun! good mix of spooky and cute. Thought the art and design of the levels were beautiful, the cards made sense. Felt a little janky when I'd drown repeatedly quickly but I was kind of brute forcing it as I'm bad at jumping platform type games haha. Really good job!!
I liked the design of the robot! and the idea of planning ahead to drop one body is a cool approach to this kinda puzzle. I couldn't tell it worked the first time, I thought it just reset randomly. If you come back to this after the jam, some kind of animation telling us that we sacrificed would be neat. But the jumping felt fun! Really good job!
