It’s a good question! Beregon and I talked it over and came to the conclusion that we’re okay with public voting as it has been for a few reasons.
Ultimately since no prize for this jam it’s more about community and feedback and accomplishing something. If someone wants to cheat to win the only person they’re cheating is themselves. Often the winners aren’t the ones with the most votes. Outliers happen. A fair few streamers play these games and we want them to be able to vote and also community members who don’t always make a game but play the games we also want to be able to vote. We don’t think adding a queue for the amount of participants will help either and just add more of a barrier to good feedback.
Voting should be more about giving thoughtful feedback and improving your game or craft than an end score. And I know for me personally looking at how i ranked in the individual categories matters more than how I ranked overall. We’ve been doing it this way for a while and it’s worked out. If anything egregious happens we’d look into it and adjust from there.
Sincerely good question and it was good for us to check in on how we feel about it. Let me know if you have any questions or further concerns. And feel free to join the discord it’s a nice community and you can post about ur games progress as you go to garner opinions or get help.
