What assets did you use in this project?
My own VR starting project template and Oculus controller prefab. Unity 2022 and the XR Interaction Toolkit. I also used a lot of 3D models from Turbosquid, a mixture of open-source and paid models and textures. Audio sfx from freesound.org (credits pending), my own recordings and VO from artists on Fiverr. A few photoscans that I took (books and gravestone) as well as one AI-generated image for the selfie in the photoframe.

Wow, you focused purely on story telling and I think you did incredibly well considering with how little you had to work with.
I do have to admit it’s not really as relatable to me, but you still managed to make me feel something. Amazing job.

I would being willing to bet you guys have 1 or more artist on your team. The art is amazing!
Unfortunately the sound was much too quit for me to understand and it seems that is critical to the experience.
There were some minor interactivity issues, one being that when I grabbed the letter to read it teleported to the desk after the narration was done. I was done reading it and it was a little annoying to have it taken away before I was done and to have to pick it up again.
Over all it looks amazing!
Thanks for the feedback! I'm just a solo developer who also has a bit of art design skills, I did use a lot of pre made models but still spent a good few days building it out so they all fit together and getting the textures right.
Shame about the sound, what headset did you use?
Also noted on the interactions, I'm going to be revisiting this project to expand on it so this is all super helpful feedback. I think if you had issues with the sound, it would have heightened the letter jumping to the table more for you. The narration reads the letter so my presumption was once it has been read to you, it is no longer needed, but perhaps that isn't true. I think it would make sense to have it remain grabbable so it can be revisited if you want. Perhaps at the moment I'm being too heavy handed.

I'm using my Rift S.
I'm realized in this jam after playing a number of games how VERY important a Menu Button is. Love to be able to open the menu and adjust the sound volume, Sitting/Standing mode, and such...
Short, but pretty emotional story. Awesome quality assets and lighting. And really great voice actors.
It's probably just personal taste, but wished i could do a few more interactions and maybe have some little influence of the story or at least need the given information to solve or do anything or similar. Else it feels just as if I'm standing here around, but everything would exactly happen same, if i wouldn't ( besides choosing in which sequence i want to hear the substories^^).
But nevertheless for what it wants to be (a narrative storytelling) it is a very good implementation and great experience.
I think as I build on the narrative in the future, I'd like to add more options and branches to the narrative as you suggest. I originally had a few simple interactions in the memory scenes, but I felt that they distracted from the story and therefore felt a little out of place, but if I can build up the world to offer more interaction then maybe they'll feel a little more at home.
I took inspiration from The Book of Distance which I played a few years ago (I'd highly recommend it if you haven't tried it). In that, there are subtle interactions to trigger the narrative to continue which really helps bed you in more.
As a note, the slight consequence of which order you choose the objects means that the final object you select will have its own unique audio. But currently, that is all.
Ah ok, just played it once, then sorry, thought it's always the same. I guess when already made some variants of the final audio, then it's actually already some kind of "influence" of the story :-)
I also totally agree about potential problems with distractions. Guess it's mainly in VR always a bit a problem of how to "guide" users attention. Also struggled a lot with it. If you want, you can try my game, think especially this kind of "trick" with the incoming phone call i used there, could also work for you sometimes.

No need to apologise! These were things i sort of hid knowing people would only play through once, especially since i kick people out at the end. Also sorry if I sounded defensive, wasn't mean to. I really value the feedback as I definitely want to continue developing the narrative!
I'd love to try your game too, I'm away for the rest of the week so will miss the reviews sadly, but I'll try it once I'm back with my headset. Interested to see how you guide people too, it is indeed a challenge!
cool, no worries. Would also appreciate any feedback after the "competition" of course. In the end i think is the most value of jams to get honest feedback and improve over time :-)
Wow, The Story is really touching. I really enjoyed it and also make you think a lot. I must say that this really need to be more complete, like a full story, beacuase you really did a good job!
I'd love to expand on the story! It feels like there is a good foundation now to tell more about that world. I'll for sure circle back to this project in the coming months

The story is fictional and so are the people, as you say, the selfie photo is AI generated but the gravestone is a photoscan of my grandfather's stone, then I replaced the text in Photoshop to make it fit the story

I loved this game, it's my favorite of all the ones I played (and I played all 93 PC games xD)
I would say a minor downside was that I wasn't able to reach the items and since there was no movement there was an awkward cord pulling moment as I tried to climb over my sofa to get to them xD
The voice acting was great, the story was interesting and the spin on the theme was VERY unique and refreshing. Thanks for the game!

I wanted to avoid movement to try and keep it simple and focused, but I did come up against some issues with Interaction Toolkit where recentering didn't quite work as expected, I understand that is a Unity bug as it used to work, but I didn't get chance to look into it in great detail. Sorry you had to resort to parkour haha!
No worries, and I think the no movement is fine, maybe just a recenter button would have been enough, which is easy enough to add afterwards. Still the rest of the execution was great

Sad story and you managed to deliver it to the player. White background is a bit too bright in memories scenes, maybe it's possible to somehow blend it with the scene model or make less contrast, idk actually, maybe it's just me. Anyway, very unique concept and pretty designs.
Thanks for your comment, I didn't think about the white at all. It's a pure unlit white, and you are probably right, it should be an off-white for sure. I would have loved to add a bit of bloom to those scenes too, which I think would soften it a little bit too
