how the game fits the theme?
It's Halloween night, and while the other kids head out in scary costumes for a round of trick or treating, you decide on something a little different....

You’ve saved up your pocket money for a big box of treats from the local bakery, and head out to share them with the neighbours who might need a friendly visit.

As you wander through the village, you listen to their stories, and offer treats that might bring a little warmth to the shadows we all carry.

I think that the general idea of this game is great! I really liked the artwork for the cards and also the writing for the friends and on the cards itself.

Developer

Thank you for the kind words :-)

Nice concept! Asset choices were solid, and the writing was pretty good! Obviously it would have been nice to finish, but you've got a decent idea to work with here!

Thank you! I've already prepared a second non-jam version of the game that I am going to continue working on, as I actually really enjoyed it and want to carry on with it

even If the game was unfinished you really came up with a good concept and a story and a gameplay and A PEAK ART W FOR THAT HAHHAHAHAHAH

Developer

Thank you so much! I'm just about to watch the stream :-)

Developer

Thank you for persisting with playing it even though it reset every time you went back to the village screen! What I wanted to do is have it so that it takes time to visit each resident or grab treats so you have to try and manage your deck and give the right cards to the right people but of course I didn't have time to do all of that, it still needs much work!

What I was able to play is very well done! I think the instructions on the Itch page could be a bit descriptive on how to play the game. The gameplay is smooth and the idea of a deck builder is uplifting. The animations are well executed too! I wish to see a completed version, maybe post jam. Would be a hit on Steam!!

Developer

Thank you very much for the kind words! I will indeed be continuing to work on the game after the voting ends - I've already created a new project on Itch for the non jam version

Cool concept! I like the idea of a deck builder based on giving treats to make people feel better about their problems.
*Here, have a cookie~!*

Developer

Thank you :-) What I was able to submit in time was only very basic but I think I could build on it

Submitted(+1)

Definitely. You've got a really solid foundation there.

If you're open to suggestions, I'd recommend a slightly more tactical way to build your deck. Only light, to keep with the slower pace of the game, but just something where you have a little control over which 'treat outcomes' (i.e. bat, spider, vampire etc) you will create, then the player is making a more involved decision of "I'm picking these specific treats for this specific character".

Or you could keep the deck itself random, but make the choices a little more tactical, like by skewing the deck in favor of a certain emotion, so the player can say "this'll be best for a sad character", or having slightly more limitation, like you can only use 3 cards per deck, so the player doesn't blindly shove every card on one character!

Just a couple of ideas- feel free to use or ignore!!

Developer

Thank you yes I'm very open to ideas. One of my problems picking this genre is that I have never actually played any of these card games before - I just thought it would look cool! Now that the jam is over and I can take my time with the game I think I want to spend some time playing more card games and seeing how the mechanic works.

I definitely want there to be some element of strategy, even if it's fairly light. I didn't really want it to be just a click fest through the resident stories and then the game is over which is what it would be if I just kind of finished what I had now.

I haven't played many card games either. Sometimes it does help to play lots of games in a particular genre, mainly to get a feel for how they're built and balanced, and the mechanics they use. However, it sometimes helps not to delve too much, because it generally makes your own concept more unique. In your case, you've already grabbed yourself a pretty unique concept by working 'blind', now you can get some inspiration from elsewhere to build on it :)

Best of luck with it!

Developer

Yeah that's a good point, maybe I should just continue with the concept I have started building on and see where it takes me, finish it and THEN play some more card games. I have a feeling this is a genre I might like to explore for future games.

I had a difficult time figuring out how to play it, when i started i don't know how to play i have just pressed keys randomly on my keybaord

Developer

There's some brief instructions on the game page

I had a difficult time figuring out how to play it, as the game lacked some feedback on whether what I'm giving helps the person or not. After I found the icon getting smaller acted as a health bar for symptoms, I did manage to make some neighbors happy! I love the story theme, it is very heart-warming!

Developer

Yeah I just completely ran out of time, the game is not finished at all and has no tutorial. Thank you for playing!
