Great graphics, great sound, well programmed, but as others have said, it can feel a bit rigged against the player because of how relentless the shanghai horde is. What's more, I feel like a visible arc preview or having the snowballs fly straight toward the crosshair when fully charged would be more player-friendly, because as it is, it can be a tad misleading.

Regardless, great job overall! Also, gotta love the choice of Alice In Wonderland!

I had actually thought about adding a throw arc early in development but I wound up running out of time since I didn't actually know how to implment something like that... ^^;

Maybe a post jam update is due...

And thanks! Hope you enjoyed!

very cool and polished little game i like it but i do not understand it

without the ability to dodge and a vulnerability time before shooting it seems like the only means of defense is shooting down the fairies, and as far as i could tell they respawn infinitely so i found it a bit hard (nuked on lunatic, nuked on hard, won on medium)

the shift to block reminds me of those arcade onrails shooters.......hit da pedal to go behind cover. it might as well be default behavior for when youre not shooting though instead of being bound to a button unless im missing something

SHANGHAI ALWAYS WINS

edit: also it looks great. good pixels

High-quality snowball fighting simulator! I'm glad the changes regarding the crosshair and charge were implemented, the game feels so smooth to play through now and Medium offers a good difficulty balance for me.

Such a nice little game! I really like the artstyle. The gameplay is simple and yet quite challenging, it took me a bit to get the hang of it, but I managed to beat hard difficulty confidently (I'm afraid of trying out lunatic though).

Also, I can confirm that the Linux version works with no issues whatsoever!

Thank you! I'm glad you had a good time!

And good to know the Linux version is working! ^^

Yay I won. I like how you could choose between hitting the dolls or hitting Alice directly. The bar not being able to be held at max power was also a really smart design choice.

This game is adorable, from concept to art to music to gameplay loop. You really do feel the pressure of being poor little Shanghai going against Alice and her dolls, but it's not overwhelming, and you can have great fun finally figuring out the nuances of the game.

My only minor quibble is that Shanghai can be super vulnerable after coming out of shield because the throw meter depletes to zero and dolls are merciless with snowballs, but it's not a game-breaking sort of deal.

I loved every bit of this game, but most especially the music. You really brought out the deep cuts, and I very much respect that, as Alice has always been a favorite of mine. Good job, team!

Great fun I had. Arcade games are my kind of thing, and this one's pretty well put together!

There are things I think could be improved though.
- First, the cursor/crosshair REALLY needs to stand out more. Like look at the SS below and tell me where's my crosshair.
If you haven't noticed it within 1 second, then you can be sure that me neither, and that's in the middle of the action, where me as the player will be mostly looking at what's in front of Shanghai so that I can pop up my shield when needed.
Just making it red should be a GREAT help.
(I've also been thinking about suggesting an optional trajectory indicator for your throws but I think making the crosshair visible should be enough, I got a surprising amount of times where my snowballs flew BETWEEN enemies lol)
-Then this minor thing: maybe the snowballs could stand out more against the background? They're visible enough yes, but their black outline slightly blends in with Alice's house's black outlines. Maybe you could use grey outlines for the house, anything as long as the snowballs contrast well against the background. Right now it's not straight up unplayable, but if that can be done then looking at the gameplay might be more comfortable (and thus playing is easier).

Anyway my favorite part is easily the instant shield. It's just super satisfying to tap Shift right before a snowball hits Shanghai. And parrying like this multiple times within a short moment.
Lunatic mode sure was a challenge, and I cleared it! Except my recording software refused to record the window so I had to switch to application-recording mode instead and had to clear Lunatic for a 2nd time lol.

Hi! I'm glad you enjoyed the game! I took some of your advice and made a few small changes

The cursor is now a pink color (matching Shanghai's blush) to have it stand out a bit more. I also de-saturated the border lines on the background, to help the snowballs stand out a bit more.

Also, congrats on beating Lunatic! ^_^

This is a fun lil game! The entire premise is simply adorable, its great that you get to play as Shanghai and I love the idea of Alice using snow-dolls!

This is a game about you playing a snowball fight with Alice, the gameplay is pretty easy to understand, you shield from enemies' attack by pressing Shift, and attack them with Left mouse hold(decide the throwing angle) then release(shoot).

It's a simple but well-polished game, and the game looks really nice, good job!

super cute visuals with really tough gameplay. I wish our "charge" would be saved while we were shielding so shanghai wouldn't be so vulnerable to Alice's merciless snow dolls. Charming game!

Would it be cheating to rate something you helped work on

It is quite challenging and has an amazing song, I didn't manage to beat it on lunatic but just listening to the song made my experience worth! Love it!

Game is so cute. I actually thought the game was pretty hard on the first couple gos until I got used to throwing arcs and distances. After that it was pretty satisfying to finally beat Alice in her own game hehe. The throwing into quick shields is a really cool moment that reminds me of Time Crisis almost. The sprites are adorable and I really like the subtle snowing effect going on in the background. The end screen is also very cute and I love the little rendition of Reincarnation remix.

Pretty much a perfect jam game. Plays as great as it needs to. The concept (a snowball fight) is thematic, if simple, but the characters in question make it imaginative enough - Shanghai can shield herself with her umbrella shield, and Alice makes a great opponent with her snowdoll mooks. The pixel art looks great, and the music sounds great. The backstory of this game (Shanghai and Alice are having a somewhat unbalanced snowball fight) is as good as it needs to be for a simple title like this - the sprite of Alice laughing at my defeat was enough to drive me to beat Hard mode. Finally, this game is wonderfully challenging, as a Touhou title deserves to be. I still haven't beaten Lunatic, but I know it's doable. I fully believe this deserves five stars in all categories.
