Mmmmm delicious bullet hell I cronch
Some very nice patterns you've got in here! The difficulty is well-balanced and the spells were quite pretty. Some patterns like Avalanche or Piling Snow were a bit uninspired though, being either too easy or too RNG-reliant.
I did notice there was a RANK system at play, though I'm not sure if it really affected anything?
Good work overall!
Yea there isn't too much going on with the systems or points since I was mostly just focused on getting patterns to work. Avalanche and Piling Snow are def the weakest, still wish I could have tuned Avalanche more so you'd have to move at the split second more often and Piling Snow is the best worst spell in here lol. But being able to hear people's feedback on this has been a real joy, so thanks for playing!
Thanks for playing! I def noticed that dark blue pellet was hard for people to notice. I learned alot from this jam and from people's feedback so it was a really fun experience.
Definitely Touhou-tier difficulty, in that I can reliably dodge and clear the spell cards, except when I can't. Hella fun. Could maybe use some kind of indicator for when I'm about to run out of slowdown juice.
Thanks for playing! Some kind of prompt of when the meter is about to expend does sound like a good idea to explore.
A really solid Touhou-style boss fight, with a cool gimmick. One of my favorite games this jam for sure. The difficulty is just right for a jam game, with the fight overall being notably more accessible than a normal Extra boss, but still with some tricky patterns that I'm not gonna successful dodge any time soon. I'm impressed someone no-missed it.
I also particularly love the slalom non-spells. It's a bit unusual that you have to stay at the same side twice, but it's a welcome change of pace from the usual right-left-right-left rhythm of high movement spells. I thought the survival was nice, but I can see how it becomes RNG hell if you don't use the slow-down. It could probably be a bit shorter to make it less RNG sensitive? And it would have helped slightly to have the bullets from the top be a different color - it was something that occurred to me once I figured out that I should just slowdown myself into a nice gap in the lower bullets and follow them up: the lower ones can basically be ignored at this point as long as you move with the right speed, so having them be the same color adds visual clutter.
Also, for anyone that has problems with the refresh rate being tied to your monitor, you need to turn off vsync.
I'm glad you enjoyed. I've been pretty happy to hear that the non spells look and feel like slaloming so thank you!
Also yea the vsync issue, I originally left instructions to turn it off in the game description, but I'll definitely have it set off by default the next time through.
First time seee danmokou with such beautiful UI elements, the invisibility timer, capture results, death effect, and stuff like doubling boss HP at bottom of screen (where I have spent a lot of time), they are really good
Thanks for trying my game! There was a lot from danmokou I had to figure out so I'm just glad it was able to come together at the end.
I've only finished one Touhou danmaku game, so I'm not exactly a pro, but I enjoyed the few tries I attempted at yours! The slowdown mechanic is interesting and works well with the patterns you devised, although I kind of miss bombs.
Thank you for trying my game! I wanted to explore more with bombs, but I also wanted to let the patterns be the focus for this jam.
Then you did a great job! I enjoyed the patterns.
Pretty cool but the challenge's all over the place.
The Diamond Mogul and the Avalanche spells I think are too easy, I mean it as they look more like Nonspells.
There's the first spell, the Lightning Snow, and some other nonspells that use the dark small pellets: these pellets unfortunately are really annoying in a bad way. That's because they're both blending with the dark backgrounds (yes even on nonspells they tend to be hard to keep track off) and they're also together with bright-colored bullets.
There's also the survival spell which I really didn't like at all. Even with the slowdown mechanic, the highly random nature of the pattern often makes it unfair and unjustifiably hard. I think different colors with the falling bullets and the piling ones could help greatly (for identifying which is falling and which is rising - especially when they overlap so often), and make either the falling bullets OR the piling ones have only one speed for all. And also Yukari's sprite hides bullets so that was one unforeseen curveball right in my gabber.
All of the rest however is pretty great and accessible. Especially liked the slaloming nonspells. The theming too is well done.
Now all it needs is a replay option, and good thing I've recorded my perfect run.
(Also yes I managed to No Miss No Slowdown after dying 100+ times in the survival spell, how could you tell?)
That is awesome. I can't believe you did a No Miss No Slowdown run, that's amazing! To be honest, going in I knew the balance was going to be all over the place so I appreciate feedback like this. I didn't even realize that Yukari hides the falling bullets during the survival and the note about the dark small pellets is definitely something to keep in mind.
I'm also going to try to get a replay option in the menu sometime soon.
It's a fast-paced Danmaku game, Z is for shooting, and X is to slow the bullets down so you can dodge easily.
The bullet patterns are really beautiful to watch, plus the cover is really beautiful, so it would rank high in Art for sure.
I am glad it doesn't have a try limit because I am really terrible at this type of game, it's good to know that suckers like me can also finish the game without any problem, other than dying a lot.
Overall, a great game to try if you like the Danmaku games, it's really challenging as well.
Yay thanks for trying my game! Also just to be sure, the music was a free track was done by YuzuSound. I just added it
I like danmaku games so I liked this one. Some patterns seem a little dense but they're all doable with practice. I had a lot of rage filled fun.
Yay thank you for trying my game! I'm glad you had a rage filled fun time.
pretty fun patterns! they're hard but enjoyable
Thank you! I'm glad you liked the challenge!
the patterns in this game a STUNNING, they're difficult but every death doesn't seem unfair. the bullets are absolutely beautiful aswell. if you put me down and asked me if this was a fan game or an actual touhou game, i wouldn't be able to answer. that being said, it doesn't really feel wintery. idrk how to explain it though. anyways, great game!
I think some of the patterns are meant to be wintery. It's hard to really convey winter ideas with bullets, but the titles refer to a lot of skiing stuff, like black diamond and avalanche. The two similar nonspells with the winding paths remind me of skiing motions as well.
ohh, I see. I didn't really notice since I was focusing on how beautiful the patterns were lol ;>
Thanks for trying my game! I tried to go for bullet patterns that had a lot of strafing to resemble skiing, but after a while I just started to do things related to snow, ice, and winter.
I can totally see that on a second playthrough :0, when I was doing my first, I was mainly focusing on how pretty the patterns were than checking out the movement of the character. Again, the patterns are SO beautiful ;>
Really fun patterns :)
Thank you!
