Never played the original but looking at some videos of it I would say you improved the gameplay substantially! This was a great idea and use of the theme.

Thanks - I was basically just lazy and didn't implement some of the more annoying features - like the life countdown.  haha

TBH, I don't think I saw the ending. Might give t another go since it's a web based game. TBH, I never played the original ET.

The art work and shading was nice.

Hah. I think you've come up with the definitive take on E.T., here. I'm never going to play the original and not want my Simon-gun.

I commented briefly on the game page, but wanted to add a couple things here.

I thought the squelching sound for walking was fucking hilarious for some reason. After playing some of the other entries, it was a relief to get to something that was recognizably "game"-y and had an intuitive goal. I appreciated the easily read instructional text at key points of the game, though maybe you should add some directional arrows at the start to encourage the player to go offscreen for the first time (and thus "learn" about the principle of getting to the other rooms of the game).

Great use of the game jam theme as well. Should be fun to revisit this once you've added everything you were planning on adding.

Glad you liked it! When Rom announced the theme, it took me like an hour to remember E.T. and how fun it would be to get revenge on those annoying agents who kept kidnapping and robbing poor E.T.  ;)

I really intended to make all the sound effects in the game like  I did the walking - Michael Winslow-style, but ran out of energy and kind of stumbled over the finish line.  I'm definitely going to finish the thing up over the next week or so before telling others outside this game jam about it .haha

Overall the structure of the game was kind of tedious, it wasn't very compelling to just walk in and out of holes having to start the whole process over again if you get caught. I also accidentally clicked on another part of the screen at one point which meant I couldn't do anything anymore, I decided to stop playing after that. On a more positive note, the game looked pretty great and the sound effects were a nice touch, some music would be much appreciated though. I also noticed that the footstep sound sometimes looped even if I wasn't moving.

Believe it or not, but I reduced a TON of the tedium from 2600 E.T.  haha

And yeah - it's a little buggy.  I was running out of steam and hacked in the sound on Sunday night.

Hope you enjoyed it!

But yeah, I guess I can't expect you to make a masterpiece out of quite possibly the worst game of all time. And yeah, it was cool.

Thanks!  :)
