Very interesting, the narrative really settles you in to the guy's daily routine. I liked the occasional horror elements of people reacting in ways you wouldn't expect, like your co-worker that eats the salad from the place they raised awareness about being hypocritical, and your mom mentioning how you don't pick up even if you pick up the phone every day.
I assumed the endings were tied to whether you leaned into your depression and doldrum or tried to open up with others more, or chose comfortable options versus disruptive ones, and I only ever hit ending 2 out of 3. I'm not sure if the other endings just weren't implemented, or there's something I'm missing. I assume it's something about whether you lean into the depression or not, and if that's the case and these other endings exist then I assume you have to choose options perfectly, and I would hope it wouldn't be quite so hard to do that.
Regardless, this was nice! I don't know that walking around the apartment added much to my enjoyment but I can see the ambition there.
All three endings are in the game! You’re correct that it requires perfect responses to get the other two endings. The “correct”/“wrong” choices require either completely rejecting the pattern or sticking with it and really that’s all.
Thanks for playing and appreciate your feedback.
I found myself laughing, and often angry at the story telling, but probably as a defense mechanism from seeing too much of myself in Scott. It's remarkable how legitimately terrifying this is, as the same-ness and monotony of every day life made me long for something else, even forcing Scott to eat a different salad couldn't change tomorrow's lunch. Definitely not for everybody, and almost a drag to get through (but for the right reasons), it did a great job of showing how little interest Scott had in actually connecting with the outside world, god forbid you ask the barista their name or go out on a Friday night, Scott. Also yeah, Gambit was a necessary addition, I begged him to help him every night, but he just wanted chicken.
Thank you for your thoughtful review! ❤️ Beep did a great job with the dialogue and I found myself relating heavily to Scott as well. Glad you were able to connect with the game and hopefully playing it gave a bit of a catharsis! Also as sweet as Gambit looks, he definitely thinks Scott is chicken dispenser first, companion second.
Beatiful artwork and storytelling. Bonus points for the cute cat!
Thank you!! ❤️🐈⬛
Honestly the scariest game I have played in the jam. It depicts the horror of depression and of a "normal" life, very well. The glitches and the visuals are spot on and the story is really immersive. The only thing that I would suggest as an improvement is to add some "ambience" soundtracks to the different part of the day (aka train noises, bar background noises) to immerse the player even more. But I really enjoyed the experience and I still feel terrible for poor Scott.
Thanks so much for your kind feedback and for enjoying our game! We’re discussing an update after judging is over, so that note about ambiance is really helpful. 🙏 Again, really appreciate the high praise, made me so happy!
Very well written story and love the merging of 2D with 3D (huge fan of billboards like the cat on the couch). Plus the cat is so cute so extra points! Fantastic art as well!
The horror turn caught me off guard and was unsettling. Also can’t believe you got dialogue trees in there! I can see that some stuff got left out because 7 days are definitely not enough for a game like this, so I hope you keep working on it and finish it some day. Amazing job!
Thank you so much!! 7 days was definitely a challenge; major props to the team (and WorldsCutest for the 2D/3D integration)💫 Would love to work on an update after the judging is over, so your comment is much appreciated!
Great idea and really unique game. The narrative experience is fabulous. Gave it a five star rating would be great if you did the same :)
Thanks so much! Will definitely leave you a review too. :)
would you consider uploading a mac version in the future? unfortunately I only have mac computers at home :(
Hi, we've been trying to export a Mac version, our last attempt had OSX call us garbage .... But we're working on it!
yes, it's annoying, you have to confirm TWICE that's it's fine to run unsigned games, otherwise the only option is move it to trashbin lol
Just uploaded the Mac version!
Nice narrative experience! The horror of tedium is a under explored concept in the gaming space, in my opinion. My main criticism of the game might be that the physical environment is underutilized; you could really drive home the point by having the player perform more of the monotonous daily tasks in the world, rather than have them pulled along by the story, which doesn't seem to mind what the player is doing outside of responding to prompts. Also, I managed to fall into oblivion after walking out the door while talking to my mother. Metaphor?
Regardless, interesting concept. I really liked when I could see visual changes in the world after making decisions. Good work!
Thank you for the feedback and for playing! We found the door didn't have collision right before we shipped, that's how game james go xD
A lot of new skills were learned during this jam, and we ended up scoping out as much as we could during this time. I agree there could be more added and appreciate the ideas.
I walked though the front door and almost fell off the map.
Thanks for the feedback - we were all working on new skills for this jam, and hopefully when the scene changed you were able to keep going in the narrative. appreciate you checking it out!
Man, that was fantastic. You really set a solid visual tone that complemented the monotony of what the main character was going through. Is the truest horror showing up to the office every day?
thank you for the kind review!! 🥹 really appreciate you playing our game and I’m glad you felt the vibes we were aiming for!
thanks for playing!! appreciate the feedback!
