I have a soft spot for RPG Maker games and I think this is the first game to use it in a SCREAM JAM so I really liked this! It was a good experience that harnessed the neat idea about being able to interrogate lost souls to resolve their internal conflicts and allow them to pass to the hereafter. The addition of multiple endings was really cool and suited the afterlife tone of the game. It was also a fun opportunity to write lots of different ghost characters with their own afterlife crises; the snarky tone of the protagonist kinda makes it clear you had a blast when writing this. As others have said the only constructive criticism I can offer - like many RPG Maker games - is that the stock assets didn't quite fit everything they were used for, particularly the character portraits. Thanks for contributing to SCREAM SEASON!

Playing this game was a great experience. I liked your writing and the conversations throughout the game kept me engaged, waiting to see what would happen to the main character. The only issue I found was the default face graphics. Considering the time constraint it is understandable and it was not too distracting. Overall, great job on this game! I cannot wait to play more content from you.
I normally tend to get bored with these kinds of games. But your writing style kept me engaged the whole way through. Great job! I loved the sarcastic prick approach you took.
It's amazing how you made me connect to the main character and actually care about her in this small story.
Generally speaking, this was a great experience.
There was only one thing I didn't like. And that was the character portraits. They never fitted the actual character sprite. If you revisit this game, please replace or completely remove the portraits. They just hinder the experience.
I'm overjoyed to see you enjoyed the game!! I plan to use this approach to writing more often since it was recieved so well!!
As for the face graphics:yes I apologize. Those are default rpgmaker faces we were using as placeholders. The faces were unfortunately not finished, forcing us to leave them in. We plan to have another update after the contest that remedies this and a couple other concerns, maybe even adding a spirit or two as well!!
Thank you again for rating and commenting!
Sardonic Purgatorio!
This was a really fun experience for two reasons. One, it brought me back to my old days. Downloading and playing old RPG Maker 2000 games. There's something extremely enjoyable about the way RPG Maker lets you play with ideas and put them out in a very digestible form. But anyway, the second is that this game is one of those off-beat kind of ideas that work well in this kind of format. Playing as a sarcastic, disinterested shepherd for the flock of unrestful dead is a very fun overall experience. A few times I got tonal whiplash from the wisecracks of my character mixed with their own tragic backstory, but this is a shorter game that has a lot of ideas it wants to put out there. I would say it's forgivable and easy to adjust into.
So far, I've gotten the bad and good endings. I'm going to definitely go back and get the neutral ending, which just seems like it might be an interesting one based on what I've seen so far. Had a really good time with this!
I'm certainly happy to hear you liked the game! When starting to write the typical "its...its so cold...where am I.... I need to help everyone" I got just very bored very fast and thought "What if their savior is this vaguely annoyed adult that's dealing with their own sad backstory. Happy to hear it got across!!
I'm also happy to hear you're doing the neutral ending last!! It is, in my opinion, the best one. Especially after you've experienced the other two, let me know what you think!
This is really great. I love the writing! I'd love to see more, but I seem to have hit a point where the same cutscene keeps repeating and no more ghosts show up. But like, I actually care what happens to this character, and that's an accomplishment itself. Well done.
So! After asking one of the people running the contest I was informed that bug fixes are allowed so long as additional content as not being added. Since the endings were in the file, just prevented from being accessed due to the time loop of hell, I was able to patch it up. Should you still want to see the ending you earned (there's three overall!!), feel free to redownload the game! If not: thanks regardless for playing and mentioning the bug in the first place!
