Congrats on getting #1 in the Best Game category and for getting gHost's Choice for this year's Scream Jam!
SCREAM JAM 2024 gHost's Choice -
This game is an absolute blast. For a horror game that’s completely left-field in terms of tone and genre, it’s a shooter on rails set in an alternate-history Great War where chemical weapons become so potent they end up reviving the dead. It delivers a complete arcade experience, with players navigating a hazy, devastated Western Front shelling zombies from the safety of an armoured train. There’s plenty of dialogue to guide the player along their journey. Enemy ragdolls, collectables, cannons as an alternate weapon, and destructible environments create immensely satisfying gunplay that keeps the game enjoyable. Easily the most fun to be had for the jam.
Thank you for submitting Rotting Railway to SCREAM JAM 2024, and congratulations on being selected as one of the ten gHost's Choice entries for the jam!
Thank you so much for letting me be a part of it! I had a lot of fun working on this game, even wen things were tough. I learned a lot and grew as a game dev. It means so much to me that you picked my game to be part of the gHost's Choice!
This game was fantastic, performance was great which is impressive considering the type of game it is so clearly a very talented developer. Loved all the enemies and the gunplay was incredibly satisfying and good to use. Super polished stuff. Only bug I came across was I felt my tank fight went on a good bit longer than it should have. The weakspot was only showing up for a few seconds then dissapearing for a minute but that was about it.
Great atmosphere and level design too going through no mans land on the train felt great. My only nitpick cos I’m a big UI nerd is the text felt a too big and chunky, I think you can find a font more suiting of your game and have it be a bit thinner. Other than that I can’t say anything bad. Fantastic stuff
I'm glad you enjoyed it and thank you for the feedback! I'm definitely planning on changing the font of the game. I had to resort to using the default Unreal Font because I was running out of time for the initial build. I'm probably going to switch it to an old typewriter looking font soon!
hell yeah
This felt really polished. The sounds, and gameplay are so satisfying. Great game!
Very enjoyable. The weapons felt good to use, and I discovered that you could do something akin to Doom’s “quick switching”, which I had fun with. Also, great visuals. Just an amazing job all around. One note that I have is that maybe you could consider automatically adjusting the player’s aim such that when you swap weapons they are aiming at the same position. Although that readjustment might be an intended part of the gameplay, in which case ignore that idea
Great idea and well executed!! Had a blast with this! (and loved the zombie runs + poses)
Had a lot of fun, I hope you will manage to make a full game, because this is already very promising.
The setting is cool, the weapons feel punchy, and I like that destroying props sometimes gives you bonuses.
WW1 with Zombies and cannons on rails what's not to love. The gameplay is fun and the story telling is solid.
Outstanding work!
This game is very cool and fun to play. It has everything. A fantastic setting, amazing mechanics and stunning visuals. I like how the sound of the train almost become part of the soundtrack and follows the rhythm when it slow down and pick up speed. There was also a very cool boss fight. Amazing.
Man, that was fantastic! I loved it, the aesthetics, the gameplay, the music, even a boss battle! How is that even possible? How did you make it in just seven days!
Holy Shiiiiiiiiiit! This game is the most exciting and enjoyable one I've played in this competition. Whether it's the gameplay, visual style, level design, or atmosphere, everything has been taken to the extreme! Even after completing it, I am still very much looking forward to more content from this game.
Love the setting, WW1 armored tank vs zombies? SOLD
Combat is satisfying, shooting the canon feels amazing, good job on the raggdolls too. Main critisism is it feels very long, could definitely use some variety in the second half, or some trimming. Tank vs train was epic!
Good job, I see the potential!
Amazing game, rail shooter in the truest sense :D. The plot is cool. Visually, everything is great. When grenades flew out of the infected cars, it was so unexpected and cool! The final boss tank is so badass. I think you can add recoil to the cannon, it lacks a bit of impact. Amazing work!
Absolutely wild that this was accomplished in 7 days! I loved it as a game, not even just as a jam game! Great atmosphere, great mechanics, fantastic use of positional audio, just all around a lovely experience.
This game is awesome! Super fun, I love the atmosphere and the story. Gameplay was also super engaging and enjoyable. One of my favourites in the jam so far.
I might have a thing for trains in videogames, so I might be a bit biased. But holy moly, this is probably my favorite of all the games submitted in this jam. Please make more of it i want to play more! :)
This is just a really high-quality game with crazy designs and ideas. The oppressive and heavy world creates a really strong atmosphere. It’s great that there are bonuses for destroying houses, but I especially liked the tank boss. At one point, I was expecting a plane boss that would drop zombies X). Great game, easily one of the best!
I loved the setting of this game, I think that WW1 is a great backdrop for horror games. I liked how you incorporated many of the iconic vehicles and weapons of the setting. The difficulty was a little on the easier side but I know that was mainly for the jam. Overall, a really good game.

This was a BLAST to play. Everything about it works very nicely together, my biggest gripes are things that feel like they'd be right-at-home in this game, but are absent, which isn't a mark against the game. I suppose I could say that it isn't a terribly difficult or scary game, but I'm not personally bothered by that, so much. It has a very light and breezy curve, making it easy to play through. I strongly agree with the other commenters that Stations where you can upgrade your train would be very welcome, but that's quite involved, and I think the game really works very well with what is on the plate, as it were. One of the strongest showings I've seen so far this game jam. Keep it up!

I'm really glad you liked it! I definitely leaned more into the easier side for the difficulty since I know people are trying to play as many games as possible. I didn't want them to get stuck at some part and never finish it. I've played a couple games so far that were too hard to finish for my skill level haha
This was SUCH a cool game! I love game where you drive a train. And now I even get to destroy tanks with it, hehe.
For real, amazing job with the gameplay loop and feel! Everything was smooth as butter!
The visuals where great (lighting, textures, animations)
The sound design was great (music, sounds)
The gameplay was fire (mechanics, feel)
Averall just an amazing experience. Great job everyone ^^
