Best "keep ball up" game so far

Gameplay has only one problem, it's very hard to tell when ball will reach bottom of the pit, I guess some kind of slider on the side because that height number way up top is not helping much.

Fits theme well, except maybe leaderboard.

I love how this game looks, pixelart made well.

Sound is pretty good, especially SFX!

Developer

Ah yeah I've been receiving that feedback a lot. If I had more time, I definitely would've included some additional UI/visuals for the player to rely on.

I also regret not including a leaderboard lol, I assumed the 'high-score' mechanic was I all I needed but after playing everyone else's games I realized I'd messed up a tad.

Thanks for the feedback!

Game controls were a bit hard to get at first but game is really fun when you know how it works.

Sound effects, music and art are nice !

Thank you so much!

The game was fun. The only issue i have is the slow down powerup felt like more of a hindrance than a helpful powerup. It might be a skill issue on my end though lol.I can see it being used to time the kick better but alot of the times I wasnt near the ball's landing location (Skill issue i know). Its hard to tell when the ball is getting near the player while also trying to be under it at the same time. The shadow and height number help with that, I think the height helps the most because with the shadow it is a little bit harder to tell. This might be too much but i think having the height indicator follow the ball would help a little. Having it centered in the view would be easier than having to look up at the height and missing the ball.  Anyways, I really had fun playing the game i love the visual style, and the sound effects and music were satisfying. Good job !

Thank you for the feedback!

Yeah in hindsight I would've done a lot differently -

  • Made the slowdown more pronounced the closer the ball is to you (and much less pronounced when it was further away).
  • Add a dash ability, that way you can reach where you think it's gonna land faster.
  • Add more indicators as to how close the ball is to the player (this would include moving height indicator near the player character, as it's where the player is going to be looking).

Thanks again! Glad you enjoyed it.

Very cool concept for a game the effects felt very satisfying and the game felt responsive.

Thank you so much! :)

Fun game with a really neat concept. It generally feels really good to play with satifying effects for hitting the ball at the right time, and that camera splitting effect is really cool. The only thing I could say it needs is better indication of how far the ball is from you. Overall, great job!

Developer

I grappled with that issue during play-testing, so I added a few subtle mechanics that should've helped with that - though I think I made them a bit too subtle lol.

Thanks so much for the feedback!

Very solid art! Hard to tell when the ball is coming down on you sometimes. Liked the vibe a lot though

Developer

Thanks!

Yeah I got that feedback from my coworkers as well - there's a few visual indicators I included to help with that (but didn't explain in the tutorial).

  • The shadow from the ball gets larger/less transparent the closer it gets.
  • The laser upgrade has a visual transparent indicator for when you should be releasing your kick.
  • By looking at the height, 9/10 times you'll be able to kick it at the right time - if it's around 1000/2000 and it's coming down quite fast.

Something I'm still learning is when to, and when not to explain certain mechanics to the player (and making sure subtle mechanics aren't too subtle lol). Thanks for the feedback!

Thank you! Much appreciated. Nice score too lol!

I played it a couple times but it was really hard to kick the ball in the correct timeframe.

Still I get the idea and the game looks very good, it plays without errors and I would like for it to be easier to hit the ball to get even higher and see more of the game xP

GOOD JOB!!

Ah yeah, sorry about the difficulty curve, there was a lot of back-and-forth in that regard. Once you get the hang of it, it's not too bad, but it's tricky to get over the initial hump. It's one of those things I'm still learning - it's really easy to lose objectivity (especially when it comes to subjective elements like difficulty)!

Thank you so much! I'll give yours a try right now!
