Nice entry!
What I liked:
What could be better:
I think of the entries I've played, this one gave me the "urge to discover" the most. Well done!
I felt like I was getting good at discovering more of the planet as I learnt the system. Like others have said, it'd be nice to be able to salvage or to have some permanent upgrades. I once lost 7 pylons due to accidentally running out of power.
If you wanted to really expand the idea, you could have different modes of transport. The game might start with you on foot, then the next expedition you can afford a rover, then when your rover runs out of fuel you could walk a little bit (but not far). Kind of like how vehicles improve your ability to explore in Subnautica. I just like the idea of having a little grace after your rover dies to maybe get back, or find some fuel for your rover, that kind of thing. Or even just dying on foot feels more dramatic than your rover stopping suddenly (I guess it's implied in the current game that these are unmanned vehicles).
An upgrade to salvage things would be a nice upgrade.
Thanks for playing and thanks for the feedback!
I really like the idea of being able to walk outside of the rover after the power runs out. I kinda want to stick with the idea having unmanned vehicles, so it could always be smaller robot. I imagine something like a bb8 cruising around the area for a bit would be pretty cool.
There is also the one upgrade that I didn't have time to implement - a drone that can fly over mountains. The idea was that it could perhaps place pylons for you. Or it could just be a way to see if there are any energy sources / things to discover ahead of you.
Again, I really appreciate the feedback :)
After several expeditions into the wilderness, I can safely say that I have successfully turned mars into a pylon porcupine.
This is simply beautiful! No bugs, clean, clever concept, suave particle effects to tie travelling through the environment together --- overall oddly soothing.
Upgrades to the R-over were a great touch! Also fantastic Elon Musk cameo!
Would be super dope to have a total pylon counter on top of the other counters, because I'm pretty sure I self-planted a few Amazon rainforests of 'em.
Well done! Gripping exploration, a fantastic game!
This game is a great interpretation of the theme and very fun. The limitation of how you can go further does give you that urge to want to try and get the most value out of everything. Well done!
This was awesome. The limitation of the energy pylon makes for a great mechanic, limiting exploration and making discovery more valuable. Also Elon's cybertruck was a nice humour element.
This felt great. I like the minimal aesthetic. On point with the theme. The cybertruck got a giggle out of me.
It's pretty exciting to see that upgrade popup screen and get start imagining all the possibilities. Like someone else said below, it felt a bit unfair that I didn't get to keep my hydro + solar upgrades after death.
The currency is limited by exploration, which I liked. I kept wishing there was a way to "return to base" or intentionally end an expedition early for some reward?
Thanks for playing, and thank you for the valuable feedback. I completely agree with the hydro and solar upgrades being permanent in some way.
My thinking was that if you starting with a new rover you would have lost those upgrades and would have to pay for them again. If time allowed it, I would have introduce a mechanic for salvaging upgrades from old rovers scattered on the map.
I also really like the idea of returning to your base early.
Gosh, I want to work on this game some more now 😅
I got to thinking more about this and I wondered two things:
1) Maybe hydro and solar can "wear" with each expedition. so you get to keep them, but only for 3 turns or something until you have to repurchase. Perhaps that keeps the challenge but makes it feel more fair.
2) It feels like the pylons are actually the most powerful upgrades because they can be placed anywhere. So I wondered if solar and hydro should be cheaper (only giving access to pylons later). Because I found myself placing pylons willy-nilly early, where instead it's better to place them away from water.
Oh, I forgot to mention in my first comment that seeing your old dead rovers was such a nice touch!
Good atmosphere,

Cool game. Unique system. Fun progression. My only issue is that money becomes hard to get as you progress. But real cool, keep up the great work.
There's a lot of good stuff in this game, the art is nice and fits with the music, the whole energy mechanic makes you really think strategically on how you move and having upgrades that you can invest in is really neat
Very well done. One of the best submissions so far. Super fun. Super good looking. Amazing feel. Made me want to explore more.
Good job.
One of my favourite ones so far! Great interpretation of the theme, really had me wanting to see the entire map. I think you should for sure get to keep the Hydro and Solar upgrades though, seeing as you get to keep the pylons between deaths. Overall very pretty game, elegant idea.
It was really fun, it was also fun figuring out how it works and what to do. It looks great it a cute fun little game. All around fun game play, good controls and the entire game just felt great
Thank you very much, I'm glad you enjoyed it :)
Really fun and cute! Took me a few tries to figure out what was going on but that's half the fun. Looks great, feels great and has just the right amount of stress.
Thank you! :)
Really had fun with your game! Well done submitting early and loved the interpretation of the theme ;-)
Good luck!
Thanks you, and thanks for playing :)
