Some of the other games in this jam had the same general premise (two people on a journey to save everyone), but this had a pleasant visual novel presentation and having the map is very nice! I've played a couple of  fairy tale type of visual novels before and I think this game gets the vibe down pretty well. A good read!

Thank you so much!!! I'm really glad you enjoyed it! :'D

Beautiful game (got ending 6 on my first try), with the great characters, dialogue, beautiful graphics/enviroment and interesting choices. It does have a small problem with text not fitting the boxes (when you pick the options).

I do have the feign idea about the true ending that (as you said in another comment) had to be cut due to time constraints, will be waiting for it and the fullest version of this game/story :D

Music is great too <3

Thank you so much for playing!! I'm glad you enjoyed it! :'D

For the text problem, I might have missed some places where the text goes outside the textbox (especially with longer character names). I'll give it a thorough check when I get to work on the future update eventually. Thank you so much for letting me know!

I made one screenshot with that problem, could've gave my heroine shorter name ;)

Really cool pixel art, but I'm not the biggest fan of the "realistic backgrounds". Music fit very well too. Nice story and the choices made me think and there's multiple endings. Good job!

Developer

Thank you so much for playing!! At the moment there are six endings, but I plan to add a seventh one in the future.

The backgrounds were mostly a mix of time saving and experimenting, but I plan on drawing my own for a future update so they fit much better with the rest of the visuals. :')

Really enjoyed this and got most of the endings. As others mentioned below, the scene select screen was bugged in the version I played, so it made it difficult to get all the endings, but still had a great time with this.
Here's some video of my first 15-minute impression, should you want more commentary:

I'm happy you enjoyed it!! Thank you so much for playing and recording it! It's always great to see the first impressions :')

Thank you for letting me know of the bugs too! Was the version you played an older one? If it was the newest version, I'll make sure to re-check it for any issues when I get to work on it again. (But if it wasn't the newest one, it should all be fixed now!)

Submitted(+1)

yeah it was the older one, glad to hear it's fixed!

A beautiful game! The soundtrack, visuals and storytelling was gorgeous, definitely playing again to try and get the other endings!

Developer

Thank you so much for playing!! I hope you'll enjoy the other endings too! :')

Ha the one I got was a bit of a surprise! I wasn't expecting it!

Genuinely spellbinding game you have made here. Exact perfect amount of polish on everything from the character designs to the art to the music (upsettingly excellent soundtrack btw), all of it has the exact right amount of love put into it and vision put behind it.

Found myself engrossed by the heartfelt melancholic story, and while I have yet to get all the endings (only have gotten 4,5, and 6) the ones I have seen so far are wonderous and pitch perfect.

A small detail that I positively adore is starting the piece off with a point of view account from the main character that leads into choosing the characters' names and genders. Such a simple addition that instantaneously forms a connection between the person playing the game and BOTH of the characters they will be following throughout. And the fun jovial dialogue and overall moody but happy tone helps with the engendering too.

MOREOVER: The game is a perfect example of the two most powerful tropes to engage someone to a new fantasy setting.

  • Step 1: Do something weird to the moon
  • Step 2: See step 1

Genuinely terrific job. Loved every second of the game, absolute winner this one is.

Developer

Thank you so so much!! I'm really flattered to hear this. :'D

That was my exact intention with the name/gender select! It could have worked with a choice menu too, but I thought it would be a nice way to introduce the characters a little at the same time. Big agree on the moon too, Moon's haunted will never not be a peak fantasy trope. 🙏 I'm glad I've been able to make a story with it!!

I loved the art and the use of the music was outstanding. The story kept me pretty hooked in too. I was able to get 4/6 of the endings, but I wasn't too sure how to get 1 and 2. I'm not very good at writing long comments, but I just wanted to say that your game was great! Like some of the others, I'll definitely be watching and waiting for that 7th ending :)

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for playing Moonlit Blessed!! I'm glad you enjoyed it :'D I'll do my best to bring the 7th ending as best as it can be!

If you want a hint, endings 1 and 2 can be found pretty early on depending on what you choose!

Reviewing this after getting ending 3.

The art style here is truly stunning! I'm extremely impressed with how you managed to create such clear and elegant character designs without relying on outlines and while using relatively minimalist color choices. As someone who does pixel art more often in a top-down aesthetic rather than full portraits or landscapes, I found the illustrations to be disarmingly excellent. I think the only part of the art style which threw me was the incorporation of pixelated real photos, but it was easy to adjust to it before long.

I will say that without conventional gameplay elements like trackers or meters, it's difficult to tell which ending a playthrough is really headed toward. I received ending 3 without really knowing what exactly led me there, which wasn't a terrible surprise since the ending itself was enjoyably tragic yet optimistic, but still left me in the dark about what I could have done differently for another ending. That surprise is some of the fun, though.

Overall, this was short but high quality visual novel. If there was a fuller version of this concept with more onscreen characters and more art style-consistent backgrounds, I imagine it could be a solid full release. Also, I thought the music was great too! Did you make the vocal tracks, or are they from a music pack?

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for playing!! :'D

I'm glad you enjoyed the art!! I had wanted to try out making a visual novel with edited photos for the backgrounds for a while, but it was definitely in part for the time efficiency too.  I'll take note of adding more hints for the endings too for future improvements! If you want a hint to avoid ending 3 in a future playthrough and see the rest of the story, you can try choosing the options where you teamwork more with the Hero. o/

I definitely want to expand it in the future and add the stuff I didn't have enough time to do and more. Without the time constraint I could redraw the backgrounds myself to keep them more consistent and close to how I imagined the places, and maybe even make them explorable maps :')

The music is all royalty free tracks from various composers! The vocal one from the title screen is by zippy, with the vocals made with VSynth if I'm not wrong.

Tried downloading but Windows Defender keeps saying it's a virus uweee

Developer

It happens often with RPG Maker compressed files since they're executables, but I can guarantee there's nothing unsafe in it! If you want more reassurance, there's the comments below from people who have played it o/

Attempting to prevent automatic deletion. Windows Defender strongly resists keeping the file grrrr

This? Absolutely fantastic! I truly enjoyed the experience, although the endings I did manage to get, made me very melancholic (in a good way). I WANT MY HAPPY ENDING PLEASE!!!

That aside, I must say, the pacing of the story, the choice of music and the choices you had to make throughout, really made this a very nice experience. I loved how it felt very much like a JRPG adventure. All while playing this I kept thinking how amazing this game would be if you actually had time and a team to help you. Maybe with some turn based battles, more time to develop the story and actually being able to explore the areas you visit. This is a really promising project. If one day you decide to expand it beyond it's current scope, I wouldn't mind paying for a more complete experience, RPG experience.

The game might not be the most unique at what it does, but honestly as an RPG, character focused story? It does it's job very well. The plot twist at the end might have been predictable, but the feeling that I couldn't do anything about it? Yeah, that's what sold it for me. I kept looking back, trying to see what I could've done to make things right, to get the ending I wanted (and realizing that, maybe, the ending I wanted just wasn't possible, I couldn't save everyone), and that's what I liked about it.

I must also congratule you on the gameplay loop experience. Pick a place to go, introduction to the place, solving the issue, getting an aftermath scene, all the while getting to know the characters and exploring their doubts, insecurities, and relationships with eachother, rinse and repeat until the climax at the mountain. This is fantastic, it shows you put some thought into planning out the game, and it shows! Although, I do wish the characters were a bit more unique/had more defining characteristics, so that I might be more attached to them (However, I can see how your intention, was for, I suppose, the characters to be more flexible, to fit the player's choices).

Either way, this project has a lot of potential. I would however, maybe take a closer look at the scene selection screen, clearly there's quite a few bugs that need to be adressed. Even if I was content with the few endings I saw, others might leave feeling frustrated and like they would need to play the game all over again to avoid the bugs.

I wish you the best of luck, your project is fantastic and I hope a lot more people play it. Easily a 4/5 experience.

Thank you so much for playing!! I'm really glad the story had the intended effect hehe. Unfortunately I had to cut out the final/true ending because of the time constraints, but I really want to add it after the jam fully ends! One of the testers said exactly that too, about expanding it with more traditional RPG elements like battles and exploration! There's definitely a lot I haven't been able to expand on as much as I'd wanted, so I'm definitely considering it for the future. :'D

The scene select menu has been a real struggle, but I think I've managed to fix it in the latest bugfix update, fortunately! I do recommend making a new save just in case to avoid conflicts, but if I haven't missed anything, it should be working well now hopefully. Thank you very much!!

Okay. So I played the game and got one of the routes. Tried for a second route with the same save file, already did the prerequisite to not get that one route ending where it ended earlier than its supposed to and apparently the event thinks that I completed 2 when I already done all 3 of the Guardian routes. Mind you, this is after I got that earlier ending and I followed through the select route screen. So I dunno if that's a bug that I should address or not. Also when you enter the game again in the same route, its just black screen. Presumably its to fast forward all your already established choices? I'm unsure of that. I might just watch other people get the other routes and see how it goes. (Or I might start over again but honestly the thing is that shift is so slow because of the pauses that I kinda have to wait) I tend to be a relatively fast reader so I can pick up the characters' wordings as I read through while shifting.

However, I must say. The music, immaculate. The calming piano is really making me feel comfortable. Whomever made the soundtrack I should give kudos, well done. The atmosphere and ambiance, spectacular. The writing, poignant in some aspect though a bit verbose in others. Threw a bit of levity to the mix and its quite the entrancing experience. The character designs are lovely. The "fairy" being quite the highlight and the story regarding the moon, the guardians, the trials they face, the hero's doubts regarding their worth during the journey and more. They really make you experience quite the adventure.

The pixel art's definitely the highlight and the eyecatcher of this entry. Just wow the artist pulls off some of the most gorgeous pixel art designs and lush background design I've ever seen.

This Visual Novel certainly has a lot of polish and visual spectacle down, my gripes aside. And I hope I can get around to playing it to get the other routes eventually.

Thank you so so much for playing and for the thourough feedback!! I'm especially honored you enjoyed the art :'D

The issue with the scene select and black screen definitely has to be a bug, so I'll look into it and fix it as soon as I can. The eventing of the scene select is an absolute nightmare that I finished at like 9am with no sleep, so I'm not surprised it still breaks at some points... If it keeps happening the best option might be to restart from the beginning for now. I'll consider removing the pauses in the future too if I can't figure out a way to make a more efficient skip option!

EDIT: I've updated the game with a hopefully fixed scene select menu! I recommend making a new save to avoid any conflicts, but if I didn't miss anything it should be working better now!
