Message from the artist
This track is ideally listened to with headphones/speakers due to the lower bass elements.

This track, "Title Card" took a lot of experimenting for me (as a hobby producer), and I kept it quite short and simple to focus on trying to make it essentially identical when listened to normally, or in reverse. I tried to find sounds that could be played into their reverse form to limit obvious seams and potential pops. I kept the melody and actual instruments quite stripped down to limit melodies and chords getting in the way of each other, I also kept processing down so I wouldn't have to work around too many after effects (like reverb etc.)

I imagine it being used as a short theme song played over a title card for a dark and atmospheric game featuring similar themes (mirroring, duality, a looping story mechanic etc.)

This is my first ever entry into a game/composing jam! :) and any feedback would be really appreciated

Cheers, Esty

Love the dark vibe on this

Developer

Thank you, glad you enjoyed it :)

Good job for first jam, I think even if you tried going for super challenge this track would still sounds very decent, the long note choice would have made an almost seemless transition. well done.

Developer

Thank you, yea long notes actually had the bonus of making the sounds easier to work with and creating a dark ambience at the same time. Thank you for the feedback, I appreciate that, I wasn’t sure how strict the rules were so I went safe with category B 😆

Sounds great! I really like the bass, I might be way off the mark but is it a slow-starting 808? I think the tone of the instruments is perfect, everything fits well into that dark feeling. This was a nice listen, great job! I hope you plan on doing more jams in the future too!

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much for your feedback! you’re bang on! it’s an 808 being played in reverse into another reversed form so the sound actually hits in the middle and then dissipates out each way. so glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the encouragement, definitely keen to join more jams, the community has been so interesting varied and positive towards each other :)

Congrats on your first jam! Love being able to see and hear the palindrome so clearly but in a way that just makes the piece work even better as a bit of ambience. Definitely fits the vibe you mentioned, honestly I'm hearing a bit of Mass Effect :D

Developer(+1)

Thank you, really glad I joined it’s been great hearing so many takes on the theme and people’s awesome ideas! thanks for the feedback, cool to hear people’s ideas on what kind of games and genres the track would work with :)

Oh wow, that's a very nice listen! Very difficult to find reversed parts (in a good way), you make it not so obvious. That's a great entry.

(love the low drone, makes amazing atmosphere)

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much! Thats what I was hoping for and had a couple of versions before I was happy with one that was subtle to my ears but kept the vibe and atmosphere consistent. Cheers! :)

Perfect fit for a dark, moody game intro. I’m into ambient music too, so I really appreciate your entry. Super polished for a first jam submit!

Developer

Thanks so much for the feedback. I found it quite challenging finding sounds I liked and wanted to experiment with so i stripped it back and went for the vibe instead. thanks again, great to hear you enjoyed it!

Very ominous. I like the bass drone. That vocal-like bass sound was a nice touch. Nice work!

Developer

Cheers! yea the vocal is a choir VST but that particular note just sounded so low and menacing I had to keep use it once I heard it haha. Glad you liked it :)

This track sounds like it could easily fit into a Dark Souls game or maybe a darker Halo game. I really like the added bass vocal element and the overall bassy focus I'm a plain sucker for.  Nice!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! The bass was the first thing that properly sank into place and set the tone for the project for me, felt right :). glad you liked it!

Simple, atmospheric, and so so sweet.

Developer(+1)

Thank you! Glad you liked it 👍🏽

bass line is sooo sweet to my ears, good job!

It does feel like it would fit the title theme of an ambient horror game you nailed the style!

I'm really bad at making ambient stuff like this because my brain tells me there always has to be a melody so I respect people who can make good ambient tracks.

Ominous is certainly the word! Really love the formant/chant sound in the center of the piece.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the feedback! yea that was my favourite sound in the song I think, it’s when I felt it was coming together as a coherent vibe. It’s the LABS VST using the Micah’s choir patch if you’re interested in checking it out :)

Submitted

Thanks! I'll have to :)

Super ominous! it would definitely work with the survival horror genre, but I could also see it being the title theme of space marine 2.

Developer(+1)

Thank you, I found most things I tried for this jam sounded sort of ominous in reverse so I tried to lean into that :) glad it came across well!

Submitted

It certainly fits the theme, so great job on that.

Thanks for listening :)

Thanks for creating!

Damn this piece creates a really cool atmosphere! I love the bass🤤

Developer

Thank you! that’s the vibe I was hoping for, and yea it was fun getting the bass to reflect somewhat nicley on itself :)
