Description
Based on both the picture and text theme, I came up with an idea for a game where the player travels into the depths of the protagonist's mind, represented by the five layers of the ocean. I wasn't able to complete a track for every level, so what you'll hear here is a title screen theme, themes for level 1/5 and 4/5, and a theme for the protagonist, who I decided to name Ushio ("tide" in Japanese).
As for composing each track, I went for a more experimental hybrid style, as I felt it suited my game idea. I also have two leitmotifs that appear throughout the soundtrack. The first leitmotif (first heard on the piano in track 1) represents Ushio's mother; this idea was based on the artwork and I was originally going to compose a full "Mother" theme but ran out of time. The second leitmotif is for Ushio herself (first appears in track 2 and then in track 4). On the technical side, I used Ableton and mostly free plugins to compose each track.

Hi Max! Very nice hybrid atmosphere you created. I find it unique since I have not heard another soundtrack in the jam that combines different instruments and synths in the way you have done.
Loved the break at 1:53 in Lost in the Mind's Abyss (Abyssal Zone)
Ushio's Theme was my fave!
I'm curious about what kind of synths you went for!
AMAZING WORK!!!
This is a really wonderful little OST. You should advertise it and get it out there, this deserves a lot more listens!
I liked Lost in the Mind's Abyss the best. I liked how dreary it felt without feeling slow!
My Ocean of Thoughts (Title Screen): Lush pads. Atmosphere well fitting of the theme.
Cognitive Caustics (Sunlit Zone): Love the I-bVI-Vmaj7 movement. Love where the bass comes in. Gives me Kirby vibes. Great synths! My favorite track!
Lost in the Mind's Abyss (Abyssal Zone): I honestly also originally had the idea of doing the sunlit zone/abyssal zone (I did still kind of use it though). Love to see you pull it off so well! Love the dark progression.
Ushio's Theme: Great piano and character theme to close off the OST.
This is one of my favorite entries. Great work!
Incredible amount of variance. I LOVE "Lost in the Mind's Abyss"! Great pieces overall I have nothing to say but kudos, had a blast listening!
Edit: kind of a crime you only have 10 reviews. Please go rate others so you gain more visibility, you deserve it!
Really cute submission with subtle nuances and Leina Raine-ish drums and bass lines! I had pleasure listening to your submission :D
Very beautiful body of work. I really enjoyed listening to Cognitive Caustics (had to run it back it was so damn good.). Gave me a great vibe! Good work!
Hi! :D
Of your four tracks, my favorite is "Cognitive Caustics (Sunlit Zone)". Despite that, all of them did a fantastic job of relaying the theme for the jam. Your drums might have been too strong in the "Lost in the Mind's Abyss (Abyssal Zone)" track, but that's not too much of an issue. It also was definitely abrupt, but I honestly kind of liked it.
Your extended harmonies are a major plus here as well. Transposition can be super effective within certain pieces/works, and your tracks here are a great example of that. Not to mention how each track is strongly unique, but still connected, which is also another huge plus when it comes to writing OSTs. I have yet to listen to more submissions from this jam, but I'm very fond of yours thus far!
Ooooh beautiful sound design ! Really dreamy pad, love that a lot. No need of a lot to make good tracks.
Love your vocal synth but maybe they were a bit too panned in the mix, i find it strange.
Great harmony in lost his mind! And in the middle wtf great transition to a drums section.
Last track was nostalgia indeed
Overall great OST ^^
Nicely done, well mixed, the chords are insterestings. In Cognitive Cuastics I wished at some point you would add a kick drum and a harder snare espcially at 1:55 , that would've been amazing. Lost in the minds abyss has an amazing vibe its moving so much we are never bored. Well done !
