Thanks for your feedback! ^^

When you say better mix, do mean like volume levels of certain instruments or the instrumentation itself? Also I agree with having some more variation with the sound-uniqueness amongst the two tracks, as I did have everything loaded in one project, it tempted me to re-use the instruments/voices without editing them in anyway. Maybe next time I will encourage myself to have an individual software project file for each track, that way I can't easily re-use as much as I can with the way I normally do it. X)

So glad to hear that you enjoyed it! :D I too find orchestral composition to be fun and trusty, but perhaps now one of us or both of us can experiment with a new soundscape next jam :o

Greatly appreciate the feedback! ^^

I have a strong tendency to do chugging basses since I played a ton of mega man growing up. Also that's so cool how the cover art reminded you of Paddy and the Rats. I have never heard of them but now I have a new band to give a listen! :)

Thanks! ^^

Thank you for your feedback! ^^

What would I give to know what I would have made for the alluded third track, as I definitely wasn't expecting the music composed from this jam to be as fun to write, mainly due to the very short time frame. Someone did mention that there needed to be some dynamic shaping in the tracks, and I feel like that was the biggest thing missing in them, but I am glad that you enjoyed it! :D

Thanks! ^^

i did try to give that synth a spotlight in the second section/modulated part of 'the chain that hangs', but i couldn't figure it out. i was telling myself to just delete the voice since the strings were also already playing the same gesture along with the synth to begin with. however, a part of me also said to keep it since it is possible for some voices/instruments to exist solely for one section, motion, or even possibly/wildly enough, a single note or two for a part of a track/song.

definitely a missed opportunity though for sure X(
thanks for your feedback, i very much appreciate it! ^^

i definitely agree. i forgot about this jam until about a week before it started. had i remembered, i could have requested the weekend off from my job (i work at this creperie that is open everyday) to dedicate more time to the tracks, and even get that third one (or maybe even more) in there. i did realize this too as i was finishing the 'chain that hangs track' as i was adding the violin volume fade-out automation envelope at the modulation section. once the chord hits, some violins in the higher register can be heard playing a drone and fading out. i was like, damn, i forgot about that i could do this beyond fading out a part, a.k.a. dynamics :(

thanks for your feedback! ^^

the chain that hangs is my favorite of the two :D

and yes, it is correlated with some train of thought i was told about in binary/gaming, most numbers in a game or programs go up to 255, afterwards it's back to 0.  i don't remember the full context or where i learned this, but to make the ost feel like it has a subconscious "beginning" and an "end" i did that little gesture with the naming X)

thanks for your comment! ^^

tavern vibes funnily enough i was trying to avoid at first, but after giving the strum effect in the main 'string' instrument for 'prisoner's banquet', i just gave in. thanks for your feedback! ^^

never played/got into dnd but from what i've heard it can be sooo fun. thanks! ^^

my submission for ost jam 7 and this one I do setup the tracks like an OST upload would, meaning the track plays twice, and on the third time/second loop, it fades. if im able to do another jam i think i will just keep it to one and done. thanks for your comment! ^^

thanks ^^

Sup homie, gave your tracks a listen! You have really good ambient textures developed and to be fair ambient music is tough to keep entertaining enough to not bore you but also simple enough to constantly remind you that you are listening to music and/or a 'tune'.  "drowning in light" especially is really good with this, only thing I would note is that 'discernable loop point' at 2:09. but other than that it is very well done. Also the drums you use in "self encounter" I really enjoyed. I got a knack for cinematic-sounding drums XD to be honest. Also the instrumentation and overall change in textures/direction in "re-forget" was a stellar contrast. The amount of music produced, the soundscapes, the moods developed, everything---give this submission a really wonderful impression. 7.0/10 keep on composing! ^^

Hey homie! I gave your tracks a listen! The instrumentation in this submission is quite different from others, or more so the aesthetic I guess, and I really like that fact. My favorite track had to be "T H E M A C H I N E" though they were all very solid. Also, it sounds a lot like an acid bass in  "T H E R I O T", which is super nice seeing in any submission for a jam. I feel like certain aspects/"colors" are avoided or not really put into the spotlight, though as the jam states that any genre and concept can go, so long as you connect it somehow. Great submission! 6.5/10 keep on composing! ^^

Hey homie, gave your two tracks a listen! :D

In BOUND, the sound design, simplicity, and reverb is phenomenal.  I also love the 'chirpiness' in that one voice, alluding to the bird aspect in your game/story concept.

In FREE, the use of bird chips, the arpeggiated chord on the piano in the upper register was an EXTREMELY really nice touch. To be honest that track alone was solid enough to be a submission. Also the simplicity (i.e. not too much going on sound/instrumentation wise) is present here too and I love it. It's awesome to see people who know how to essentially 'paint' a whole canvas with only using two or three colors. Extremely well done m8! 7.5/10 keep on composing! ^^

Hi homie! Gave your track a listen. Your art stuck out to me due to the fact that it too had a chain used in the imagery. The instrumentation of the track is minimal, but I honestly like it. My only thing I can pick on is the harmonies in the lower octaves could be further spaced apart. When pitches/chords are in the same octave the sound can get muddy in the lower register. Other than that, I liked your track, and most definitely with the fact that you used the word chain in the track name too! ^^ 5.5/10 keep on composing!

Hey homie! You're cover art/photo of the 'sprout' reminded me of an enemy from earthbound and I took that as a tugging sign to give your submission a rating. I listed to 'title' and 'threat1'. You've got great material, and though the title track might have felt not as strong as  it could have been, your threat track was phenomenal. Your syncopations and note slides really kept the groove going, and I was so happy to gotten to listen to that track. Congrats on your project! 6.8/10 keep on composing! ^^

Gave it a listen homie, and I gotta say, I love what you've made. I picked to rate yours at random but I'm glad I did. Solid track with great use of a arpped/chugging bassline, reminds me of mega man stage tracks. 6.5/10 keep on composing! ^^

It's so late, but it has been done. I appreciate you listening though! X)

(Re-upload was made unto YouTube, overall soundtrack 'might' (might) be louder, but it is a very small difference.)

X(

Yeah that's my bad X(

A re-upload has been posted on YouTube, but in truth, it is only just ever so slightly louder. :(

Thank you for your feedback though! X)

I am flattered by your point-out of my liking/tendency torwards minimalism. I was debating on what kind of game/OST I wanted to go for, but I felt like a puzzle-RPG game would be most interesting. That being the case, you'd have to hear these tracks for maybe an hour, depending on how tough the puzzle, so I kept that in mind when writing most of the tracks, save for the story/plot related ones. A re-upload of the OST with 'slightly' increased volume has been uploaded to YouTube. As I said in another reply, at this point, it is just quality of life for me, but hey at least it's there. Thank you so much for your input! X)

I have never played Hollow Knight or listened to its OST, but now that you've mentioned it I think it's worth the listen that way I can see which styles I might unintentionally borrowing from (in a good way XD). Thank you for your feedback! X)

I have very little experience when it comes to optimizing the sound levels within instruments within a track, or  really just mixing/mastering as a whole. I did do a re-upload of the OST with 'slightly' increased volume on YouTube, but at this point it's really just for quality of life for myself. I appreciate your feedback and I can't wait to give this OST Comp Jam another shot, this time with mixing/mastering under my belt. X)

When I saw OST in the name of the event, I anticipated that's what I'd see lots of, but even still all the submissions, whether multiple tracks or just a stand alone, have been extraordinary! Thanks for giving me a listen! X)

This was my first submission to this whole OST Comp Jam thing so I wasn't sure what was usual/typical, but I'm glad I got to submit what I did! :) Thank you for your feedback! X)

Thank you for your comment! X)

I appreciate the feedback! X)

Hi! :D

I got to listen to your tracks! All three sound very "spacey" and "open", and that's a cool thing that you showcased that very well within your submission. Of the three, the one that did it the best was "003 Bubble Space". (That one was also my favorite! :D) A tip for writing ambient though:

If you don't want a melody, or perhaps have a melody that overpowers the accompaniment, keep the other elements present  but not too fast. If that's what you were going for, then disregard.

If you do have a melody, but are worried about it being too outside of the "ambient" feel, don't move around as much, or simply slow down. (This one doesn't really apply to your tracks, but I still chose to mention it.)

If you do want to have parts in the track that are fast, or "layered" with lots of voices, consider adding a section where the listener gets a break from that. Perhaps where it's just bass and drums, or bass and a softer lead if not the same one, etc. Some ambient music writers know to implement this when a track might need to have a contrasting section so that the listener won't dread hearing it for too long.

You have such an amazing selection of voices used, and the soundscape sounds so professional! I really liked it! Congrats! :D

Hola! :D

I gave your soundtrack a listen and I am so excited that I got to hear yours. I had listen to several submissions, but this is the first one that I heard that utilized the approach of bigger motions (like real deal composing) and you also nailed it! Your portrayal of the theme(s) as well as their evolution/"thickening" is truly impressive. Lots of people  fall victim to the game-space limited mindset, in which they must do something "new" or "different" every couple of measures or so, as OSTs back in the day had to make the most they could,  and make it memorable, all within the limitations (like under 1 minute, maybe 2, per track, and this is on things like the NES, SNES,  etc.)

I love a captivating track, but I also love a well-thought out/stretched out one all the more. You did a phenomenal job on really bringing forth the musicality within your works. Aside from  the theme of the jam, I am amazed at the writing and delivery on its own. Great job! :D

Hiya! :D

I gave your tracks a listen and I must say, the groovy-ness and catchiness of  these tracks  are definitely prominent, and that is an awesome thing! Your soundscape/reverb effects are some of the most captivating that I've heard, and that goes beyond this OST Jam. May I ask the name of the DAW referenced in your screenshots? It has me wondering about the other capabilities with the one you specifically used. :D

The tracks themselves have great contrast, and my favorite of them would have to be "City Streets". (The bass and drums were stellar!)  Granted you took the text approach for the theme for the jam, but honestly with your explanation and connection of what it means to you, it has got to be the best that I've seen thus far. That being said, I wonder just how many "worlds" the judges are going to have  to go through with that approach in mind. X)

Awesome submission though,  and  again, the DAW w/ whatever plugin or default setting for that reverb  is truly superb!

Hello! :D

I  gave both your tracks a listen. You have stellar transitions, balance of instrumentation, delivery of material,  and awesome drums! Both tracks reminded me how in jazz, a theme is established, and that said theme is given embellishment/restatement within a new voice/instrument. Within "Mountain Purple" those arpeggiated chords (especially with the 8-bit/chiptune voices) gave such NES Castlevania vibes, and I really loved it!

Only issue I had was the connection of the tracks to the theme of the jam. They don't feel as connected to the theme of the jam that can be seen in other submissions, but despite that, your tracks are by far the most captivating and groovy that I've seen thus far! Great job!

Hi! :D

Of your four tracks, my favorite is "Cognitive Caustics (Sunlit Zone)".  Despite that, all of them did a fantastic job of relaying the theme for the jam. Your drums might have been too strong in the "Lost in the Mind's Abyss (Abyssal Zone)" track, but that's not too much of an issue. It also was definitely abrupt, but I honestly kind of liked it.

Your extended harmonies are a major plus here as well. Transposition can be super effective within certain pieces/works, and your tracks here are a great example of that. Not to mention how each track is strongly unique, but still connected, which is also another huge plus when it comes to writing OSTs. I have yet to listen to more submissions from this jam, but I'm very fond of yours thus far!

Hi there! :D

Gave both tracks a listen. Your sound was definitely not something I was expecting, but that was a good thing! Both tracks are minimalistic when it comes to instrumentation but are very moving when it comes to pitches and rhythms. Also, I like the tonal ambiguity within both tracks, particularly with "Nemutai Bubble Girl OST" one.  The structure and melodic aspects of both works felt weaker than most (or what is typical when correlating a theme to a any specific track from a game), but that's not too much of an issue. Wish there was more material to listen to/further develop what you have here, but overall it's pretty good!
