Description
A short OST for a fictional game, Euphloria is my submission for the OST Composing Jam 7. Euphloria is an explorative platformer set in a strange world of flora and aquatic depths, in a sort of representation of the mind.
Aquatic Restoration -
The track that plays at the very beginning. Your character, a strange water being, forms in a calm yet lively place filled with lush, colorful foliage. Wonder and discovery flows throughout.
Bumbling Reef -
The theme of the Bumbling Reef, a thriving environment filled with coral and strange otherworldly beings, filled with happiness and imagination.
Hollow Wayward -
A somber tune for a significantly darker and more mysterious place, filled with cavernous ruins. Everything is significantly quieter and deeper.
Hollowed Eruption -
The track of the escape sequence, with wild currents pulling everything down and in a ruckus. Everything is pushing you out, but you push through it.
And it Stared Back -
The darkness stares back at you. An unnerving sense of dread spreads before you. A being so horrible. . . Why would it exist here?
Entangled Thoughts -
The theme of the Neuronic Forest, lost in an endless maze of entropy and forlornness. Hope is the thing that's driving you forward, to press on further.
Through our Reflections -
An epiphany. Looking through the crystal at the heart of it all, you know what you must do. Searching for the core of this dread and ridding it of this world, to a peaceful resolution.
Resolve -
After calming the source of all this suffering, everything begins to recede. Your deed has been done, and you may ascend from this world, this mind. . .
Message from the artist
I'm relatively new to all of this, I hope I did okay :). My main sources of inspiration were probably Celeste and a little bit of Undertale.
Theme
How does it fit the theme?
The way Euphoria is meant to fit the theme is through representing a world in someone's mind, filled with life and excitement but also worry, doubt, and anxiety. It is the player's goal to resolve these feelings and restore the liveliness this world was once filled with.

Really nice sense of atmosphere created in your tracks :) Think a bit about creating more ’space’ in the harmonic sustains in places, as this would really help in tracks like Hollowed Eruption and Towards Our Reflections. Great sense of shape to the overall OST, nice work!
Thank you, I will try to keep that advice in mind!
Juhu! Funny chiptune!
Overall, it's a pretty interesting and stylish soundtrack! I felt the atmosphere of something old, but still evoking full emotions!
My Favorites Are Bumbling Reef, And It Started Back (Because I'm a little uncomfortable with this track, heh) and Towards Our Reflections (Because I danced to it)
Thanks for listening and for the feedback!
very retro! You put a ton of thought into these melodies to convey the tone and what not very baSeD
- BUMPUS
Thank you for listening, very based
Some Great chiptune in this OST! I would have to say my favorite was probably Bumbling Reef.
Thanks!
Solid OST overall. Resolve was my favorite, it definitely embodied what you were going for! Good job!
Thanks for listening!
Aquatic Restoration: The chords have a natural waviness to them that give the sense of being underwater. I really like your choice to use instruments that are deep in the lower register to help convey the underwater effect where everything sounds lower-pitched.
Bumbling Reef: I really like how the big chords came in at 0:26 - they made me feel like I was coming out of the shadows to see the entire reef basked in sunlight with all its vibrancy!
Hollow Wayward: The opening chord swells are produced very nicely! I really like your melody on this track as it feels somewhat haunting and tense.
Hollowed Eruption: The use of the noise channel to create the sense of things falling down around you is very creative. The rapid and chaotic feeling is contrasted with the use of a major key to give the sense of optimism, which shows the determination of the main character!
And It Stared Back: Unnerving is a great word to describe this track. In addition, I also get the sense of a sadness or somber tone making me wonder what the horrible being is?
Entangled Thoughts: This track conveys a strong sense of feeling lost. The hope feels further away with the darker elements of this track clouding it out a little. I wouldn’t want to spend too much in this area of the game!
Through Our Reflections: I think it’s really cool how this sounds like it has a similar framework to the previous track, but feels more optimistic. It would be really cool to have these elements together as an adaptive version of the same level in your game.
Resolve: What a great way to conclude this adventure! It feels more optimistic. But then it seems to grow a little dissonant which makes me question if we really have resolved the sense of suffering. That’s a very complex emotion to portray.
Overall: Your story arc works really well and I think you did a good job of capturing challenging emotions in each of your songs and conveying a sense of location as well. Nicely done - thank you for sharing!
Thanks a ton for the detailed feedback, it means a lot! I'm glad you noticed some of the minor details. I'm still not very experienced when it comes to music composition, but I'm learning and have been enjoying it thus far! Thanks again for listening!
solid compositions throughout! I love the concept and could see myself playing this on Gameboy Advance!
Thanks for listening, I appreciate it!
I enjoyed the story that was told throughout this collection of tracks - my favorite track is Towards Our Reflections. Your composition skills and sound choices are good, and you have great potential! I would recommend learning about “avoid notes” since I heard this kind of dissonance in And it Stared Back. Overall, this was a nice soundtrack with strong storytelling - keep it up!
I appreciate the feedback, thanks for listening! In And it Stared Back, that dissonance was intended but I definitely could've done it less harshly or in a more effective way.
I really love and appreciate the retro tones. It absolutely is the OST of an exploration platformer. I vision this on a early PS1 game. The introspective nature of your description really comes through in the melodies and vibe of your tracks. This is from my era!
Thanks for listening, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
This was a fun and relaxing listen! I would've loved to hear more harmonic development in the tracks. They build nicely but seem to stay put at the same time. And great work getting 8 tracks done, that's not an easy job (at least for me lol).
Thanks! I have a mostly lenient schedule so I was able to create a couple more songs than I first expected myself to. Thanks for the feedback as well!
Fun chiptune album, like most people said the mix is a little muddy from time to time just gotta listen and see what is missing in terms of frequency, do I have too much mid, am I missing high ? When you get the answer you adjust your mix and composition. In terms of composition its good only some couple things here and there like low pads/bass doings thirds is not pretty in these type of range, if you go mid range its way better, some couple of chords and melody that didn't match but most of it was good. Good job !
Thanks for the advice!
I really liked Aquatic Restoration, it really sets the mood and it's very pleasant to listen too! But the other tracks fall a bit short because of the default instruments used, and some of the compositions feels a little repetitive. Focusing on experimenting more with the instruments and trying to introduce new phrases to the song or adding variation to existing ones could really help with that. But overall these are good tracks, keep it up!
Thanks, I'm still relatively new to all of this but feedback like this definitely helps!
Overall, I am not normally a fan of chiptune, but I enjoyed your submission a lot!! The tiniest nitpick I have is that the mix is just a little muddy at times in the lows and mids with how much is going on, you could look into stereo panning techniques and that could make this all go from great to greater!!! "Bumbling Reef" had me dancing in my chair :)
Thanks for the feedback! I know very little about mixing and mastering, but I will hopefully improve my knowledge of it over time.
Nice upbeat energy on Bumbling Reef. Really enjoyed this submission overall.
Glad you enjoyed it!
