Description
genre: ambient, drone
Software used: Recorder app, Audacity
Game idea:
You are lured by a Lovecraftian creature to its nest, as you sail though a misty forest river.
Mystery horror game about some creatures luring you thorugh river in the forest area. It is cold. Heavy mist. The siren song is more of a distant echo, a feeling that hypnotizes, rather than anything audible or "song-like".
The sound is a background track that plays on loop with occasional intense sounds (scare jumps, violin) depending on the aria: for example, a window suddenly opens due to wind) or a creak in a bad floor.
It is supposed to give a general vibe of the gameplay, while you're early in your adventure and get introduced to the story thorugh the environment interactions and object information etc.
Composition:
Recordings:
* random badly played violin sounds
* local construction with occasional seagulls
* metal lid that sounds like cymbal
* rain
With mostly all recordings I changed speed, pitch and tempo. For example, I took a sound of construction (just even noise) and slowed it down to make it 4 minutes as well as lowered the pitch. In the final track it is the continuous background sound that sounds like some kind of echo in a cave.
Due to changing the original recording format to fit DAW requirements, I also got a random noise track because the didn't converter didn't convert it properly. This sound is also added as a part of background.
The "cymbal" sound from metal lid after editing in Audacity turned into some kind of water noise in a cave.
Violin sounds lower than original. It imitates "scare jump" sounds and creaking steps on a ship board. There are multiple sound recordings that sometimes overlap. They are all differently played: loud long notes, bad mute notes, short melodies.
Theme
How does it fit the theme?
Inside my world: you are entering a creature's world by being hypnotized with its siren's call
Picture theme: invisible figure you're getting in contact with; underwater/open water themes, water-0based creatures, being lures (so "happy to see them")

It was definitely a creepy ambient... It feels like I'm walking through a park that is located next to a large sewer... And it's dark outside... I'm scared
I'M SCARED
Thank you, that’s quite an image! Gives me ideas 🤔
It was scary and made me pee my pants. 10/10 would listen again.
Hahah, my pleasure!
Absolutely loved this entry, honestly haven't heard anything even remotely similar so far! Really gives of some "Fear and Hunger" vibes and could 100% see this in a horror, good work!
Thank you very much! Oh, I checked that game out, I see what you mean.
This was really unexpected, I found you because of the community post!
I absolutely love the freedom or your creation. I listened to it with the lights off and yep...very spooky...you nailed it!
Also seagulls and other animal's sounds have a lot of potential to create terrifying things.
Thank you! I haven’t checked out many of the entries, but I guess majority went with the positive vibe of the picture, so mine stands out haha
yea, animal sounds are something to play with..
woah, completely blown away by your approach to storytelling in this. truly unlike any entry ive seen so far, I think that when it comes to creating a soundtrack to represent a game and the emotions in it more abstract concepts like this are things i LOVE to see represented in some way, so i ultimately really enjoyed this! Excellent work.
Aww, thank you very much! I didn’t expect my entry to get this much positive feedback! ♥️
This is definitely the most creative submission I've rated so far. Love the idea of flipping the guiding figure in the picture on its head. Very eerie!
Wow, thank you! The picture can be interpreted as wishful thinking, when you see someone the way you want or under the influence of hypnosis etc. I primarly creatively work in psychological horror/mystery genre, so my mind easily went there when I saw the theme.
As an avid horror-lover, I have a soft spot for ambient stuff that creates a creepy atmosphere, and this certainly does that :D It might be the most unsettling thing I've listened to this year (in a good way!) It's the sort of soundscape that would have me really on edge if I were playing through the game, especially with the reactive sounds as you described them!
Thank you very much!
Local construction? Did you just record noises from some construction happening in real life because that would be hilarious and awesome if true.
Yes, i did lol
There are multiple tracks with different things happening on the construction. The only recognisable sound is where you can hear seagulls. Other tracks were edited so it doesn’t sound anything like construction (slowed down, lower pitch).
I like the creepiness of the track. Good background music for a horror game. I wonder if a motif could be used instead of random violin sounds.
Thank you for checking it out!
If it was a game, i guess I’d use the track without violins as a background. Violins would be reaction to some environment or “surprises” or hint on getting closer to enemies. So the motif would be an option for other cases: for example you go inside the boat, so the background is less heard and a different calm music steps to the front. Or the “safe room music”.
Gotcha, that makes sense!
