Description
Genres: Mostly orchestral with rock elements in one song.

Father Time is a 9 to 10-hour 2D adventure RPG game set in a decaying fantasy world where the protagonist "Father" must become a villain to save his daughter from a world that wants her dead because of an old prophecy.

-A Little Part of Us:
This plays in the first cutscene of the game, where it is explained that Father has been living with his daughter for some years, hidden in a little cabin in the woods.
Although he hates himself for it, there is always a part of him that thinks it's his daughter's fault that his wife died and that maybe the prophecy is true, after all his kid has only brought him pain and suffering, but it still is his kid.

-Do The Right Thing:
A strange man knocks on the door, he explains to Father that the prophecy is accurate, and it's only a matter of days before his daughter births an unimaginable horror into the land, he offers a swift and painless execution, but Father doesn't accept, the man explains that everyone knows who they are and that they have no chance of surviving together, soldiers, bounty hunters, civilians, nobles, everyone will be on the hunt for their head. The father ignores him and kills him using his bare hands.

This song is used a second time when the demon of time proposes a pact with the Father, in exchange for something mysterious.

-The Mountain:
Approaching the end of the game.
Caught between wanting to save his daughter while also trying to stop this prophecy from happening, Father decides to climb the forbidden mountain to find an answer. While he made many enemies he also made some allies and friends, this is also the moment he says goodbye as it is too dangerous for them to go with him.

-Fight Like a Demon:
This plays in the hardest segment of the game, in the top of the mountain he finds an ancient temple where he has to fight hordes of enemies, bosses, etc, all while using everything he has.

-Resolve and Sacrifice:
He finds the answer, it was inside him all this time, the demon of time, he must use him to his full potential to stop the prophecy from even happening, but it will come at a cost, his existence, he accepts it, as long as his daughter lives.

-A Part of Me:
The Epilogue.
Father succeeded and created this new reality where his daughter can be happy.
Some years passed and she sometimes has these moments of deja vu, moments where she cries but never understands why. There is someone she can't remember, there is someone she needs to remember.

I tried to limit myself a lot on this project, from using the constant sound of a clock in most songs, to doing everything in a single file. For the clock idea, I was very inspired by the entoner songs in Drakengard 3, more specifically the tempo changes and transitions used. Besides that, it's a style that I've been developing for some time, a motto I have is "Less is better" and I put that in every song I make nowadays.

DAW: FL Studio 20

Track order:
1- A Little Part of Us
2-Do The Right Thing
3-The Mountain
4-Fight Like a Demon
5-Resolve and Sacrifice
6-A Part of Me

Message from the artist:
It was very fun participating in this project, I'm not worried if I'm going to win or lose cause I learned a lot by participating in this great experience, and interacting with other artists was cool, thanks.

Theme:

Runaway
Picture theme

How does it fit the theme?
Runaway: The father is constantly running trying to save his daughter in time, while also running from the people that want to kill her.
Picture Theme: He has an infant kid and the setting is fantasy.

Do The Right Thing and Fight Like A Demon were my favorite tracks for the lush synth/guitar stuff and I think Fight Like A Demon was where the ticking sound felt the most unified with the rest of the accompaniment. Sounds great :)

I was impressed with your idea and the execution of a clock. I loved the Mountain track and how it seamlessly transitioned to the next track. And the 2 ending tracks were beautiful.

Beautiful melodies all the way through (The Mountain OMG) and I love the time leitmotiv you keep during the album. Though, as I have said to quite a number of other composers around here, it's always a bit sad to have hard cuts between tracks (namely from 1 to 3). I can only recommend that you put down a longer medley that compiles all your tracks and ideas in one single piece, because they clearly deserve it.

This has to be by far my favorite submission i've heard from this jam. It's just so god damn good, it could not only fit perfectly in a game no problem, but it also works quite well as an album. I really hope you go forward with this because as it stands it's already great!
keep up the good work!!!!!!

Nice one!😁

The constant ticking was a fantastic touch! Love how the ticking finally fades out in the final track, in a sort of happy ending. Some of the track transitions were really cool.

Great sounding tracks that were cohesive and effective at telling a story that kept my attention. It was a clever touch to include the tick-tock sound in 'The Mountain' to remind of the passing of time, yet the overall feeling was one of hope and not despair (which I was thankful for!), leading to a quickening of pace in 'Fight Like a Demon' (which was pretty kickass) and back to more settled in 'Resolve and Sacrifice'.

That was my intention so I'm glad you noticed that! It is a good ending, maybe bittersweet is the best way to describe it.

A really heartwarming soundtrack! Great atmosphere, but one thing to note is that the first three tracks could flow a little better, as the instruments were just cut off at the end. Otherwise, I really like the transition between The Mountain and Fight Like a Demon and the rest! Really creative, the clock ticking, how it slows down and slowly changes pitch depending on the mood of each track. Well done!

Thanks for your opinion, yeah in the version where the tracks are separated, the cut-off is very notable.

Nice job! Very cohesive and the clock thing gives a little bit of anxiety but that is a good thing for the ambience you've created

The tracks tie together very well, great work!

That ticking clock throughout is really creepy and gives great cohesion. Very immersive ambience, feels like a somewhat dark dream.

Great atmosphere (and cover art)! The persistent ticking is a such a unique, haunting, tension-inducing motif and detailed track descriptions sell the fantasy!
