A nice wander around in the snow :)
I think it would be nice if people gave a few hints, especially when you’re just looking for one or two flames!
After 10 minutes of play, I couldn't find the last warmth point. Then started walking out to the initial fire and found out that i can get infinite points from it. Well, on the way back I found the last fire. Very good soundtrack. Nice style in many ways very similar to undertale. :) Very nice soundtrack. The game is not bad, but it would be even better if the game had a little more ways to interact with the world.
i need a GENOCIDE ROUTE HERE!!!
(also gave up at 15 lol)
ALSO, to much undertale b a s e d
still funny :3
Cool atmosphere/vibes to this one! I think it helped a lot with setting the narrative up. The dialogue/text effects were pretty cool too.
Some constructive feedback:
If you rub against objects, you can make lines appear in the environment between tiles. Look into pixel perfect camera in unity to solve this, could also maybe be your collisions somehow but not sure.
I had to backtrack a lot when I found out I didn't have 20 warmth (missed the one behind the house and didn't know you could take it from the campfire). Maybe throw a few extra in or another campfire? You did a good job by placing them near the path though.
The overall art style is nice, but I think some of the assets clash a little. For example the characters are almost as tall as the trees that seem like they're supposed to be pretty well sized; the scale seems off. LOD/shading choices seem to be inconsistent a little bit as well, for example some snow-piles/rocks are shaded and some aren't and the trees seem a lot more detailed than anything else.
This was a nice little game. It has rough patches here and there, but that's to be expected. I really like the basis you got here and I really want to see what you do with this. Not sure if you plan to do a post jam update but I would love to see what you planed for this.
Things of note is that I found myself lost a few times, lengthening my playtime to 30 minutes. Not necessarily the game's fault. I'm just more of a explorative player who tends to go off the off beaten path. Even though the fire is clearly nearby the path. There were some off shoots I didn't see at first even though I was following the path. Led to some facepalm moments. Perhaps a lot of the empty space could be filled out with things to do and see.
I will say this. If you plan on updating this, then I would like to see the warmth collecting system to be given more meaning. Like, instead of collecting flames, why not talk to the towns folk, witness some wholesome moments, and collect spiritual warmth that way. Maybe after watching the townsfolk show kindness to each other, see a beautiful nature scene, ect, spiritual flame would appear next to them for you to collect.
On a similar note, if collecting warmth is that easy, why hasn't anyone done it before? Is the main character secretly a flame spirit or spring spirit who can collect warmth? That would explain why they suddenly appear is a supposedly isolated town.
Anyways, this game shows promise, and I would love to see what you do next with the game engine.
P.S. Just Me and my Half Tree
wow story is great i really can relate to:) and really good graphics. but finding fires was a little hard for me
definitely has an undertale air the theme audio could be better but its cool game
I had a hard time finding that last warmth point. Thankfully, you can move double speed by walking diagonally.
Nice! I love the undertale vibes in this and the music is lovely and has the potential to be memorable and iconic. My only criticism is that the game doesn't give that much of a sense of direction, and I accidentally interacted with what I thought was a garage door when I ended the game. I realise that this is probably just because of time limitations though :)
Thanks! The game was originally supposed to have more characters explaining the story and the gameplay, but I didn't really have time for that. Also the game was going to have a bossfight, the town was supposed to have more life, I wanted to add more buildings and interiors but again I didn't have enough time. As always I pretty much overscoped. That "garage door" is the barrier that other characters are talking about. Actually if you go there and interact with it while you haven't got the right amount of warmth points it will say that you have to collect more and will display the amount you have to collect. I wanted also to add a character standing there and explaining everything about the barrier and wanted to add an animation of breaking the barrier with these warmth points, but there was no time to add these things and I had to publish a working game
That's very understandable. I relate very much to the overscoping and I think you did a fantastic job nevertheless.
looked cool, I managed to find 25 warmth points and a half tree
