Did you work in a team?
There was 2 of us! Me and @henryrawlings. I was mainly a developer, while henry made the sound and visuals :)

Was the resolution a challenge?
The GUI was hard to design, it is very hard to convey information (especially with text).

What did you learn?
Entered this jam to learn Godot, and to learn pixel art!

Rhythm games are hard to make - audio is hard to sync. Ended up stitching together multiple tracks at runtime.

Went in expecting a rhythm  game, and got a puzzle game instead. I was pleasantly surprised. I see you said Rhythm games are hard to make, but I don't think this would count as a rhythm game, even though the moves happen to a beat. Very interesting game, but a bit frustrating that it seems like enemy attacks  seem to be "alive' for 2 beats instead of one, but it's okay. I really liked this :)

Almost forgot to mention how cool the intro voices were. The only thing I actively disliked was the graphics, but the game was really good. fun to play. Bit hard to start, but satisfying to figure out, so probably a net positive that it's hard to understand at first.

Thanks for the feedback! I agree it shouldn’t be classed as a rhythm game. However, I believe we still learned a lot about the difficulties of creating a rhythm game. Trying to dynamically play audio in sync with a background track was a much harder challenge.

Could you elaborate on the enemy attacks lasting for 2 beats? They are supposed to damage you if you are walking into / out of the target square during the listed beat.

Thats a shame you don’t like the graphics. Is there anything in particular you would change or do differently?

We are glad you enjoyed! + the voices are from google translate ;) with a bit of spice from Henry

The characters just seem very basic looking. I think they're a good base, but if you added some shading or accents to the characters the graphics would immediately improve.

The thing you described about the enemy attacks is exactly what I mean. I feel like it should  either only hit you if you're standing on the tile at the end of your beat or the the beginning of your beat, not both, but I see why you did it that way, and the whole game would have to be designed differently if you did one or the other instead of both. You had some clever ideas here.

Developer(+1)

We thought it would be a bit too confusing if it only damaged you one way, but it seems to be more confusing this way!

Cheers we appreciate the feedback :)

In case it helps I feel like the better option is damaging you if you start on the tile, rather than enter the tile. But you may feel differently. Might be too large of a nerf to change it from what it is now. Anyway. I really liked the game.

I really like the gameplay but the in the first level you already need to execute prefectly in a not so clear way, i wish it had an easier start.

Developer

Thank you :) The first level was a lot harder than we expected… Well done for getting through it

The game was pretty tough. I almost put it down before I figured out how enemy attacks worked. However, once I figured it out I really enjoyed it! I'm glad I persevered and played it through. Really nice job!

Developer

Thanks for playing, glad you enjoyed! It seems the enemy attacks are confusing most people :(

Submitted(+1)

that was quite tricky. I like the overall theme and the gameplay but i only managed the first 2 levels it was not too clear for me when the attacks happen and if it is intended that you only take like 1/2 steps a turn :P

Developer

Thank you! Each beat you should move 10 pixels or 1 block - this is indicated by the lines in the background. Attacks happen on the beat specified and last the whole beat, i.e., you can’t move into/out of the square being attacked that beat! Jumping is the only way to dodge them.

It seems like the the enemy attacks are quite confusing… we will work on that. Thanks for your feedback :)

I liked the novel gameplay mechanics. Unfortunately I couldn't get past further than two bars in the first level, a bit too tricky for me but still appreciate what I had seen so far.

Developer

Thank you! In future updates we are planning on introducing the gameplay mechanics a lot slower and with more in depth tutorials so players would be able to learn it rather than being thrown into the deep end! We're also planning on releasing a walkthrough for anyone who gets too stuck! Thanks for playing :)

This is a treat! :D I love what you've made, the replay, the moonwalks. Its so satisfying! well done a such a great game! :)

Developer(+1)

Thank you! So glad you enjoyed :)

I'm really impressed the gameplay, and I have to admit I was pretty confused by the attack patterns of the enemies and environment until I read the guide. I also REALLY like how after you beat the level you get a replay of how it would look in real time, it reminds me of SUPERHOT in that sense.

Overall, I found the core mechanics really interesting and I found your pixel art really easy on the eyes in terms of color and style!

Developer(+1)

Yeah we've found that we need to much more clearly introduce the gameplay so people can wrap their head around it! Will work on that for a new update. Thanks for playing!!

Really liked the visual style, especially the characters! The gameplay is on top, hooked for a long time. And it was very nice to find that progress is saved between sessions. Very good and special game!

Developer

Thank you so much! We're glad you enjoyed!!

Very interesting mechanic here, but maybe a bit too broken for fluid gameplay… not tried it enough to confirm that :P Anyway, I like the concept and there’s good potential there! Good job

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! Could you expand on what's broken? I think we had an issue with the build so it may not work best on older devices.

I mean its a really few seconds music bar playing vs a quite lenghty bar prepartion… Maybe when you get better at it the flow is more constant and you get the vibes of a rythym game. Probably I am not that good with it, so maybe that does not help to feel the game flows with you and emphasizes that separation btwn both pases of the mechanic

Developer

Ah yeah, I think the game ended up as more of a puzzle game than a rhythm game! But yeah, we're planning on updating with easier levels and a more in depth tutorial so you can get into the flow of it easier :)

Submitted(+1)

The puzzle part is quite cool actually, I guess it just needs getting used to the “beat”… if anything you need longer levels and not easier levels ;)

Developer

Ah ok nice! Definitely planning on that too in future releases :)

Just after answering gave it a new try and focused harder, cadence got better so maybe I just need to practice more ;)
