Was the resolution a challenge?
I tried to keep the gameplay simple, but doing an rpg still requires an interface, and it was certainly a challenge fitting all of the text I wanted on the screen to capture everything I wanted the game to be. I also wanted to keep gameplay smooth and not separate things onto too many screens, so the real estate was always an issue.

I didn't make enough of the game until too late, so it's a collection of systems and a sprinkling of content.

What did you learn?
I remembered how much fun I have making a game. Sometimes the coolest features are easy to develop, while the basic, connecting tissue the game needs can be really drawn out. You have to pace yourself and spend some time on cool fluff but still make progress on the basic gameplay.

But don't save too much core gameplay for the end.

Lovely map! There is alot going on in this game. I included it in my LowRezJam compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :)

Thanks for taking a look! I tend to bite off more than I can chew on these things and rune hunter is no exception. I love your videos!

There's certainly a world I want to explore here, but I wasn't quite sure how to proceed through it. I did fight a few snakes, and I think I won. I was expecting to get the spoils of my battle or for something else to happen from winning the battle, but I just kind of stayed where I went.

It would be better if it were more clear what happens when you win battles and how that opens up the next thing to do in the game.

I got the boots and a horse and a few runes but then I couldn't reach the next batch of areas, tried backtracking but couldn't make gold (is it dropped randomly and I'm just unlucky?). So a little confusing. The transitions and rolling certainly gets a little tedious, and the same second you leave an encounter you're into another one before you even notice you're still walking somewhere. But very promising. I had fun with it for as far as I could get. :)

Developer

Thanks for putting so much time in! You may have gotten as far as is currently possible, although I think one of the enemy types does drop gold, and you can actually buy multiple copies of equipment to keep bumping up speed.

It needs a lot of work still, but thanks for the helpful feedback!

Seemed promosing, but I was confused as to what was going on a lot of the time. I agree with iDunnyX that a tutorial could have been helpful!

The spining animation after each screen changed started to get a bit confusing/annoying after a while.

I could see this being fun after a bit more work!

Developer

Thanks for playing! I think I was a little ambitious for my first jam in many years. I sadly had to cut the tutorials from the todo list in the last day because of time, but its clear the game needs more guidance. That will be one of the top things if I do any post jam work.

Great vibe but pretty tough (damn those gods of RNG!)

Fun concept. A tutorial would help alot took a while to figure it out

Developer

I know! I ran out of time to add any help for players. I guess you could say it heightens the thematic confusion of the player character. Sacrifices fun though :P

Not finished yet! Still implementing basic systems, should have a more functional demo by monday night.
