Nice, short cute game. Lots of minor bugs though.

I explained a bit at the end of my stream, but the fire spirit thing feels a bit unintuitive to me, though I do kind of understand why you wouldn't want to have that ability at the start from a balance/progression perspective.

A few areas are just kind of confusing due to the coloration and design.

Probably would be a good idea if you suggested players to save before the boss since otherwise the player could theoretically get stuck. (Since the hints for the first part of the boss fight are in the previous room).

Initial load takes a long time, not sure if you can fix that given how the game is packed, but something to consider.

The orb in the lake part was kind of confusing until the boss hit me after, but I can imagine it being confusing to most players.

The boss flames thing was kind of confusing since it looked like that is what your ability was for, but it isn't.

I did notice a few spots with potentials for bugs, but I wasn't particularly trying to go out of my way to find bugs.

Played this to the end. It started charming, but I admit I lost some enthusiasm on the way, with conveyance being the main problem. I would not have beat the last boss if I haven't checked here for the way to.

  • Presentation is nice, but I did notice that navigation was a bit messy in some maps. More pronounced roads and border exits (generally clearer collision) would have been lovely.
  • The town and its inhabitants are cute, but in the end they don't do anything so I honestly have no idea why they're there. I half-expected to have to do little minigames for each, so it was a bit strange when that didn't happen.
  • I suggest adding a  notice of when you can go back to talk to the fire spirit. I was wandering lost with no idea what to do next. A simple "maybe I should go back to the spirit" or along those lines would have been enough, though honestly the best would have been to just have the spirit teleport to you and automatically give u the power.
  • The way you deal with the purple slimes wasn't obvious. I assumed I had to get another power for them later, when freezing then using fire didn't work. It was someone in the stream chat who pointed out I had to do multiple hits.
  • I had no issue with the boulder and switch puzzles, they were fine.
  • I'm either a bit dull, or the skull puzzle is lacking elements. Usually, I think, when you have the "who is lying" logic puzzle you'd have a few more clues to determine who lies. But here it seems each skull said stuff that was viable. Or maybe I'm being dumb and missing something. I just brute-forced the puzzle in the end.
  • The last boss...as others have mentioned it fails to really suggest how to beat it after the three orbs. If I had not looked up the strategy here, I would have given up. I was desperately trying to freeze parts of the "lake" behind the boss to "find the orb that sunk in the lake". The wording the boss gave had me convinced, but I could not for the life of me find anything from any of the angles I could freeze the water from. I think the execution of that part of the boss really need to be re-done to be properly hinted at.
  • On the boss again: some animation effects on it threw me off. I was getting really confused as to how the little purple flamelets worked, and what was removing them. For a bit during the confusion I thought it was ME casting ice that removed them, and then eventually I realized they were just a pattern. Overall just a confusing puzzle.  Finding out I had to do the orbs wasn't a problem, tho.

Overall: it started promising and had a neat presentation, but I found the part I enjoyed the most were the puzzles in the first half. The action didn't do a whole lot for me, and it was too short and devoid of the stuff I usually enjoy (snappy dialog, exploration) for me to really love it.

TL;DR it was okay, but I definitely felt it missed a lot of its potential in its current state.

Nice puzzle game! Here's a first impression video if you want more comments, and can suffer watching me struggle embarrassingly hard with the first bridge puzzle: https://youtu.be/J1bVm9xyxJo?t=2735

Thanks for the playthrough! I'm sorry my bridges hurt you so. X'D
For where you left off - you can freeze the water with the ice powers to cross over rivers.  :)

Some interesting puzzle mechanics! I really liked the freezing water ability. The boss was a buit more challenging to work out what to do, but I managed after a few attempts.

Nice work!

Developer

Ahhh, thank you!! I'm really glad you enjoyed it and also managed to finish. Nicely done! :D

Beautiful game! Loved the tiles and the sprites!

Oh my gosh the environmental abilities were honestly so beguiling. I had so many wow moments in this game. I did get stuck quite a few times but I made it out, though I couldn't quite defeat the boss (just through my own fault).

Some minor glitches found.

I think it's a 5 star effort.

Developer (1 edit)

Ahh, thank you for a truly lovely comment! I'm glad it brought you joy! :D

If you don't mind, what were the glitches you encountered? I apologise for the rushed state of things!
The boss battle is a little strange. XD (Spoilers!!) (the first step is to activate the orbs when he flashes their colour.  Then, in the fire attach you want to hold shift just as he starts flashing faster (do this 3x). The final step is to punt the ice boulder at him - and then to fire-dash when he is stunned!)

Thank you so much for giving it a try! :D (I tried to have a look on your Twitch but aside from a clip (XD) I could not see when you played it - let me know and I'll check it out! :D Your playthroughs are all great. :D

Good art ..
but i stuck here.

hehe :D

Developer

Oh no! How are you stuck?

If you're not sure where to go, you can go down to find the fire elemental again. :)

i use mouse .. sorry

Developer

Ah, that's my bad! I should have made a note that it can be played properly with keyboard only - sorry!
I'm not used to making games that respond to the mouse ^^"

Aw, I adore this game. I like the different mechanics used in it. It isn't anything new, but it's well executed. I was just kind of lost at the beginning, but it didn't ruin the immersion for me.

Also, just stumbled upon this bug? I had to restart my game because I was stuck in the water lol!

Very nice game, nonetheless. :D

Developer

Ah, thank you! I really appreciate the feedback!

And oh no! Where did you get stuck/ do you have the steps you did to get there? Apologies for the bug! I ended up only having a couple days to work on it so the bug-hunting definitely wasn't perfect. ^^' Thanks for catching that!
Hopefully the autosave didn't push you too far back!

Thank you! I'll definitely be trying out yours when I get back from work. :D

Ah, sorry! I thought the screenshot I took pushed through. :(

Anyways, here are the details about the bug.

  • It was in the map right after I first got the water ability
  • There were 3 flames and I extinguished it (without getting the remains)
  • After collecting all the remains, I immediately crossed the ice bridge. But then the map transitioned to the revived environment. It happened while I was in the middle of the water so I got stuck.

That was all that I could remember, sorry. :( And don't worry, it didn't stop me from pushing through the game. It was engaging enough. :D

Developer(+1)

Ah-ha! That makes sense, thank you so much for taking the time to write that up.
I see what caused that error. I'll have to figure out how to fix it for the post-jam version! :D

Thank you so much - and I'm glad you enjoyed it! :)

Great submission! The sprites / tiles are very cute and completing the puzzles feels satisfying.

The ONLY thing I noticed was one little typo (see screenshot below), but that didn't affect the game, or my opinion of it, whatsoever. I just know sometimes those things are hard to find yourself, so wanted to point it out to help you out. Seriously amazing game! :)

Developer

Ahhhh thank you!! I really appreciate it. Thank you for finding that pesky typo, too! Those things are so good at hiding.

I'm glad you enjoyed it! :D

Thanks Rocdan! <3 Thank you for helping me playtest. :D

Abjectly adorable. Very well done for a first attempt, so bravo on you for finishing it completely.

Developer

Hahaa thank you! First project of this nature I've ever finished. :'D

Loved the part where *spoiler* uses *spoiler* to defeat the fate of darkness! Not to mention a cameo NPC from one of the best-underrated youtube channels!

Developer

Hahaha, thanks Phoenix. Appreciate the support! <3
(And yes I love Epic NPC Man. Too underrated!)
