I think this game's strong points are definitely in its battle animations and action sequencing, which is good, because otherwise, I found the battles to be a little unfulfilling -- since they are either incredibly unbalanced (in the beginning of the game) or, as you progress, you have so much HP / MP that fighting feels pointless. But, at least you have something nice to look at during them. The mechanics of the battles are also passable, but they're nothing super unique or impressive.

I think some of your mapping makes it challenging for the player to figure out what they should be doing / where they should be going. I like the puzzle idea of having to move rocks and cut trees to navigate and avoid enemies, rather than a tried-and-true stealth puzzle or a generic maze.

Some of your gameplay elements could use a text prompt to nudge the player in the right direction, rather than having to guess-and-check for their next steps -- or in the case of the torches puzzle, maybe an indicator to read the stone tablet or bring the player over and "force" them to read it the first time, just because it's the first puzzle and you want to set up the correct expectations.

The translation is definitely a little rough in parts, but I couldn't imagine creating an entire game in my second language, let alone under such a time crunch, so I commend you for that -- just keep in mind that you'll want to find a native speaker to proofread and help with the translation if you opt to continue development with this one.

Die To Live

Hey there mongmongstudio, thanks for submitting a project to the 2022 IGMC. I'm Drifty and I was asked to judge your game in round one of the IGMC 2022 game jam. Here's some feedback about your project.

I liked the quick intro to the story. It was short and sweet, then right into the gameplay.

The action sequences were pretty basic, but I like that you put in some custom stuff.

It was cool to see a demon spirit hovering over the attacker's head to signify some kind of evil possession.

Simplifying things for a game jam is always a good idea and with the equipment you did a good job. Weapon, armor, accessory.

You made an interesting little wood chopping puzzle that took me dying a couple of time to get right, but eventually I made it through.

Kind of ironic that you enter the 'temple of light' and it's completely dark. :)

It's not clear what you're supposed to do when you get into the temple of light.

The sign reads, "The amount of little Fire left and right." I'm not sure what to make of this.

I found a spot that you can walk on the wall by "climbing the broken mirror" on the left side.

I've tried several combinations of lighting the torches to get passed this puzzle but I simply have no idea.

Perhaps it's broken, or maybe it's just a combination that I just haven't tried. Either way I found this part to be the game breaker.

I think that you should add a timer that opens the way if the player struggles for long enough, or some kind of 'fast pass' for the game jam version.

It's frustrating for the player when they can't figure out a puzzle, and it's frustrating for the dev when the player can't figure out their puzzle.

If you decide to put puzzles in your game make sure that there are easy ways around them, without having to try 1,000 combinations of switches.

Alternatively make the puzzles optional.

Thanks for submitting a game for this game jam and I hope that you continue to make games in the future! :)

A good game just let down slightly by some text and presentation issues.

The dev has a real talent for action sequences and battle mechanics. I hope to see more in the future!

"dont worry about anything, lets party"

This game is very funny, and im not just talking about the randomness of the plot, or what was the point of the wood and the ores. The battle system itself is hilarious as well. I love the over the top choreography, the broken overpowered skills i get, the elemental reactions, all of it. The ending was also completely random, but when the dude just said "dont worry about anything, lets party!", i agreed. Thanks for making this crazy game!
