strong 4 out of 5
This game looks really polished, well done. I like the art style and music. The bombs were so effective however that it crashed the game multiple tries so I had to give up unfortunately, but I think you executed your idea pretty well. I know this must've taken a good few hours to make but if you had more time I would have invested that into a level select on the pause menu, because right now it takes quite a while to get back to where you were especially after a crash :P
Oh btw I really liked the fact that the train sped up if the track was completed. A welcome surprise.
Great game! Interesting to read below about settling on the debug tool in the actual game design. Definitely added to the tension madly clicking for the tracks you were looking for while juggling the bombs and the route.
This game was fun to play. Very nice consistent graphics and feel. Snapping the rails in to the grid cells is a bit finicky.
Really polished game that was fun to play, looks good, and had good sound and gameplay. I agree with other comments about the randomness of the pieces and being sent back to the start makes this a bit challenging. Very fun still.
Game feels very complete and the concept is super strong and comes across well. Loved the art and general retro vibe. Great work!
Very original concept and I loved the backstory concept with the dastardly competitor Beetle. Funny stuff! Gameplay wise I found it was really helpful to just spam reroll. I got to stage three, but retry starting back all the way on stage 1 made it rough for me to try to complete since I had to resolve all of the previous stages. Adding a checkpoint system would easily fix that, and I think you've got a pretty solid start to a fun, cute puzzle game.
Thanks for playing! I'm glad you liked my goofy writing lol. Yeah originally the reroll was just a debug command for me only, but the game felt so rng I left it in as a sort of band-aid fix, which then pulled it around and made rerolling until you found the specific piece you wanted the easiest way to play. There are definitely better solutions there to limit rerolling or make it more interesting/less required.
Looking at it now, yeah there's pretty much no reason why the player shouldn't be able to just restart from the level their on. Especially for a game jam game. One of those thoughtless things you don't really think about until after someone points it out to you lol.
Again, thanks for playing!
Cool artwork. Lack of checkpoint made me stop at the third level though
Fair enough, thank you for playing! You saw pretty much all of the content anyway lol.
High quality submission as always! Love the art work here like usual for your games. I do find it difficult though, maybe I am just terrible at it lol
Thank you! That's fair honestly. I think maybe the train comes out and moves a bit to fast on the earlier levels, which can make it frustrating to play when you just start playing. I've been trying to be more mindful of that (especially for jam games) and unfortunately difficulty scaling/options were one of the things I ran out of time for.
Thank you for playing!
My favorite bearded man!
Great presentation, the right amount of urgency, difficulty is spot on and most of all, it's FUN!
Well done, dude. You did it again :)
Thank you for the kind words! I really appreciate it.
This Game was very Charming and polished. Nice job!
Thank you for playing! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
That was fun! I think i got an unintended failure though, I built my train along the track of the 4th map and the train crashed when it got to the edge even though there was an appropriate turn piece attached. Solid entry!
Thanks for playing! That doesn't surprise me unfortunately. I had to fix a lot of edge cases (Pun not intended lol) for the train pathing, so I'm sure there are a bunch of issues I missed. Sorry about that!
