This is a very creative game! feels like playing scribblenauts + baba is you for some reason.
Congratulations on the submission, Cheers!!!
Such a unique idea, I love it! I played through the easy levels and struggled a bit, had to get online help for level 3. I felt that the levels were actually getting a bit easier after that. But again, this was super creative!
Thank you! Yes getting level progression right is so tough without enough testers, should be easy to change after the jam though.
Oh, now this I love. If you work on it post-game, some thoughts: I think I would have liked to be able to type the letters (and be able to swap letters), to control everything from keyboard. Also, I was stuck for *a while* on Easy 2, because Easy 1 asks you to use all the letters, so I assumed that was the case for all. Maybe a me thing, maybe a direction thing.
(Can confirm the other comment—Easy8 word 2 doesn't trigger.)
Overall, delightful game and a very nice time.
This is great feedback. I wanted to have both full keyboard control, and full mouse control (particularly because it could then be a mobile game) but I just didn't have time to work out a nice way to do it, or even implement it.
Good point about the extra letter, need to find a nicer way to introduce that concept (other than a tutorial / explanation).
Thanks for playing. :)
Holy moly. How did you have time to come up with so many levels?? Very well done.
I'm not sure if this is a bug or just me not figuring words out, but I think Apparition 8 (on easy) doesn't work for the second word? It could definitely be user error, but wanted to point it out just in case 😅
I actually built one mega level with all the words and mechanics in it, then split it up!
Regarding level 8 - this is intended FLAG was used earlier so I used a different word this time (also 4 letters) but I think it doesn't work well because FLAG is also creatable from those letters and just confuses players. :(
Looking at the scope and polish it's clear this is the work of someone who has done plenty of jams. The art and sound are solid, the game play is fun with good controls and a clear mechanic. Congratulations.
Thanks heaps for playing!
I love love love this game. The concept is great, the graphics are cute, the levels are varied and all satisfying.
I played on easy and had to cheat a little bit using an anagram generator because my brain simply cannot move letters around. Still had a great time.
I'll recommend this to friends who aren't usually into jam games ; yes, it's that good. It feels like a demo for a full published game.
Last level was also really cute <3
Only gripe is the music which got a bit repetitive.
Thanks for playing and passing it on to others, hopefully that enjoy it! :)
If you have suggestions how to make the learning curve nicer, or more accessible to more players I'd love to hear.
Great work getting to the end, last level is a bit of filler but I thought it was nice too. :)
Agree about the music, I never played long enough it testing to notice that it was annoying (especially the start of the song).
I do think the difficulty curve could have been a bit better, for example level 3 is probably the hardest in the game for me. The solution is very cool and clever but I got stuck on this one and had to cheat. Generally, longer words are harder.
With that said, I'm kind of unsalvageable on this kind of game, my brain simply can't do anagrams. The friends I've send it to, whom are expert wordle-er, have found it very enjoyable :)
Also, I was wondering if the flag / goal difference was an oversight or intentional design ? If intentional, I don't think it's good design to have the player do two different things for the same desired outcome.. Either introduce the goal solution in a level that doesn't have the letter "f" or allow both to work.
Thanks for the feedback. :) And thank you very much for sharing with our people, I know there are plenty of word puzzle loving people out there, just gotta find them haha.
It was intentional, but I didn't pay enough attention to the fact that FLAG was also possible -- I should have gone with HOVER instead of FLOAT and it would have at least forced the player to think about it rather than be frustrated that the previous solution didn't work. Yet another lesson learned. :)
Hover is a good idea !
My mom loved your game btw :) She's playing it right now, I hear her struggling on the hard levels xD
Woah, what a totally unique take of a game! I am TERRIBLE at games like wordle so this was was really tough for me and I couldn't get past level 6! However you had some incredible ideas and its clear a lot of love went into this game. The graphics, island sfx, and music were all top notch and lent themselves to the game VERY well. It was such a charming atmosphere, I couldn't help to keep going as long as I was able. Fantastic work.
I hope you find a way to KEEP MAKING games even if you are taking a break!
Haha yeh I realised going in that words games can be quite polarising.. thanks for sticking at it to level 6 anyway!
I'm not giving up on gamedev, just not doing any gamejams for a while (did 11 wild jams this year). Look forward to seeing what you guys create in the future too. :) Cheers.
As always, an amazing entry! I had a great time playing this, and enjoyed solving each level. I found many of the solutions very satisfying. A great way to end 2022, and I hope "for awhile" isn't too long!
I realize now why you mentioned the transition screen on my game. Yours was great! :)
Happy holidays! 👻
Haha yes, they are such a similar idea and the image is quite close too. I'm thinking to put mine on godotshaders.com because I was actually surprised there wasn't something already like that there.
Enjoy your holidays and good luck with 2023 gamedev! 💪
A very original entry.
I think it's a little confusing that the word you use sometimes describes an action and other times an object.
If you make it a full game: I feel it would be nice if the game could recognize multiple answers (ex: flag and goal)
it shows that a lot of care was put into it.
Thanks for playing and for the feedback.
I had toyed with having two boards: One for verbs, and one for nouns, but it didn't eventuate.
Regarding multiple answers - I really like this too, I think some clever puzzles are possible where you have to perhaps use both words at different stages - just need to think of the correct setup. :)
Cool puzzle game, got stuck in the third level tho hahaha
I was stuck too, but I used https://word.tips/unscramble a few times to see all levels. It's worth it !
This helped a lot thanks
Thanks for playing, and thanks for helping out Elidef! Hope it allowed you to play more of the levels.
Really smart and original idea, I love how some words affect the state of the player. I also love the visuals, it’s really fitting to the game.
Really soothing and interesting experience.
Congrats! :)
Thank you! I really wanted to go the "friendly ghost" approach because I was sure there would be plenty of games which go the other way, haha.
Fun, super juicy word puzzle game. I could see something like that on Nintendo Switch. Great job. Everything felt good.
Oh that's generous comment, thanks for playing . :)
I think it could have fit the theme better, but still, a pretty fun little word puzzle game.
Thanks for playing! :) I tried to get as many ghostly abilities into the puzzles but ran out of ideas, haha.
