I was not able to run with very high settings, so I also watched the gameplay video and it looks amazing. Still got to experience the atmosphere through the sound and thought it was great! Excellent use of the Kenney assets as well! Very impressive in many regards, well done. :)

Thanks for trying it out! Yes, it's unfortunate how demanding the game is. I have a couple of optimization ideas like some temporal caching to build up the emission buffer over multiple frames. The world might not yet be ready for raytracing, but we're getting close :)

Love the atmosphere on this game, really give me that chill vibes.

I do have a concern with the playing waking up inside the house, felt like the game was crashing but it was really a part of the game. Love also the option to change the settings ingame, my fps was below the ground upon starting haha.

Congratulations on the submission!!

Thanks for your comment! Good point, I should've made some screen transition or animation to signify that the return to the living room is intentional.

That is a VERY cool game ! The light is beautiful, the concept is really cool, both in presentation (with the level repeating itself) and in execution (repelling monsters with light is surprisingly fun).

The level design is pretty neat, although I had to stop after dying repeatedly during the long labyrinth level. It's a good level, that forces more resource managment and creative use of lighting to seperate monsters. But it's a bit long with no checkpoint and the monsters sometimes didn't care about the light in this level specifically. Let me know if there are more levels after this one and I'll play through them.

Thanks for the game !

Thanks a lot! The labyrinth is the last level and yeah, the ghost AI is a bit broken in it. Because the passages are very narrow, the ghosts are sometimes trying to pathfind a way into the dark over a wall, which makes them want to go through you.

Nice to see you used Godot 4 for the jam! We were unsure too about if we used it or not. The raytracing and the visuals are top notch. The mechanics works really well. Bravo!

Developer(+2)

Thanks! Yes, I found Godot 4 super stable and I'm loving all the improvements it brings. Actually, the raytracing was possible because of it, since Godot 4 provides the signed distance field as an input to shaders. This is used for raymarching to speed up finding the ray intersection point.

Tried the game for a bit. Got the flashlight and the batteries. At the beginning is a bit confusing. I got killed by the shadows at some point. It's not very clear why I keep appearing at the entrance again.

The graphics are very cute. I like them very much!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for your comment! The idea is that there are ghosts that are afraid of light, so they hunt you from the shadows. You need to use your flashlight to keep them away. You always appear back at the entrance, but the house gets progressively harder and harder until you can escape.

Hey Mat, I played the game again and I have to say I'm glad I did. I actually managed to escape the house this time.

The main problem I see, is that people might stop playing before you get to the engaging part of the game. But once you reboot the house a few times and start walking through labyrinths with the combination of flashlight and flash grenades the game is actually very fun.

I had a few issues with the doors the first time I played cause I was investigating the house and got out of light and couldn't get out and that's one of the things that frustrated me the first time.

But I have to say the game was very fun after you pass the beginning. I'd love to see more levels and a bit of story that leads to an end that explains everything.

As mentioned, the graphics are very cute, I love them. The lights are very nicely integrated with the game. The ghosts respond well to the light.

Great game!

Hey, thanks for giving it another chance, glad you enjoyed it! Yeah, the tutorialization could definitely be improved, the main mechanic is explained with a single sentence that quickly fades away :) Getting stuck in a room without a light is definitely frustrating, I didn't think about that case! I thought the ghosts would always kill you if you run out of batteries, but if the door is blocked, then they can't get to you.

I had a bunch more cool level ideas, but didn't have enough time to make those :-/ I spent like 5 days just implementing the lighting system, haha.

yeah the lighting system is very cool. If you continue developing this game a bit more after the jam please let us know, I´d be glad to beta test it a bit
