Well done! I really liked the artwork!

A bit of ambient sound or music would've been great. But other than that I really liked the sound effects!

Nice game. Really liked the artwork and interface. It was pretty hard battling with the enemies. Especially since the enemy cannons seemed to travel straight at the player ship, but the player cannons were lobbed in the air. The core concept of explore and battle comes through well, and I’m sure can be developed and expanded upon further.

Love the art and lighting effects, great job!

Nice, especially the cannonball splash. The enemies were a bit too good at shooting though, haha

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! I was especially proud of the cannonball splash - I used YouTube videos for reference!

I agree about the enemies - I struggle with them myself! I only got their cannonball mechanic fixed about 20 minutes before the deadline so no time for testing strength or anything unfortunately. Thank for your feedback :)

The art of the wavy sea is beautiful and nice.

I like the system of calculating the landing position and shooting.

My highest score was 661!

Thank you very much :) That's a good score - the enemies even manage to kill me after 2 or 3! May have made them a bit too powerful. Oops

So hard to hit the enemy ships! Practice helped to evaluate where to shoot, though. I liked the kind of tilt-shift effect you added :)

Developer

Thanks for playing! Yes, I was going to implement a crosshair which appears briefly at your mouse when you pressed fire, to make it more obvious but just didn't have time. Appreciate your feedback - thanks very much :)

Sinking the ships felt so satisfying! I used a strategy of boosting past them so they miss, then firing when they are chasing me since it's easier to guess where they will be. I liked playing this! :)

Fantastic strats there! I hadnt thought to do that myself. Thanks for your kind words and for playing!

Nice game. I really love the cannon splash effect.
A minor suggestion maybe change the default cursor for a crosshair sprite or other visual indicator to let the player know that the cannon trajectory is defined by the cursor position.

Developer(+1)

Hi there! thanks for playing and for your feedback - I had in fact wanted to ass a crosshair to the mouse position but just didnt have the time sadly - that's the way it goes in game jams I guess haha.

Thanks again for playing :)

This game is certainly kind of minimal right now, but there is one thing I really like: the way the cannonball shooting works. The sound effect, plus the up-and-down parabola, plus the splash at the end--it all feels very powerful, and it feels even better to actually land a shot on an enemy because it's more involved than just clicking in their general direction.

Thanks very much for playing and for your comment of course.

Thanks very much - it was a bit of a rush to actually get the enemy shooting mechanic working in the end - wanted to work more on the game but just didn't have the time. Thanks for your lovely feedback :)

The artwork is amazing! I love the aesthetic of high fidelity rendering of pixel art.

Developer

Thank you very much, and thanks for playing!

Cool game. I thought the pixel art was great!  The lighting effects looked cool too, although it made it seems as if the light was coming from your ship rather than the sun.  A few things you might want to look at - you have to go through the initial dialog every time you lose your ship and have to restart, it's possible to sail off of the world map and the E and F keys are uncomfortably close to the WASD keys. Personally I like to move keys like these to the other side of the keyboard so they're more comfortable to use with my other hand.

Developer

Thanks for your feedback and for playing! the last few hours of the jam was a bit frustrating as I couldn't get the enemy ships to fire toward the player - thankfully I got that fixed about 30 mins before the deadline haha - I like your suggestion about the key bindings - I hadn't thought about that before. Thanks again for playing :)

Let me start off by saying the sprite-work is amazing. The titlescreen and game page instantly blew me away. I was having trouble with the dialog at the beginning, I kept accidentally skipping over the part where he explains the instructions. And even then, I think there’s something wrong with the mouse tracking. My cannonball just goes straight up, but I never managed to kill anybody. I tried both the HTML version and the windows exe. Issues with controls aside, a lot of work was put into this and it shows. Good job!

Hi there! Thanks for playing and for your kind words.

Sadly the dialog was added in like the last 20 minutes of the jam so a bit of a rush (that's why the space button goes over the text, sadly) As a result I forgot to mention that the players cannonballs work differently to the enemy cannonballs - more of a mortar effect which lands where the mouse is at the time of firing - that's on my for missing out that explanation - apologies!

Thanks again so much for playing and your feedback. :)

Didn't quite manage to fill out the map as much as I wanted before the deadline unfortunately so there are only a few enemies - hope to expand further in the future if warranted - I hope you enjoy my little game!

P.S. I also forgot to activate the backing track before exporting - whoops! That's game-jams I guess!
