Nice relaxing game. Graphics have enough style to make them interesting. The main game is pretty simple and chilled. Some variation in enemy types perhaps like catching rubbish? I couldn't reach the other areas other than coast though. It just stays at "travelling" for me.

Thanks, yes I was planning on adding other type of objects such as items and treasures, but I ran out of time. Sorry to hear you got stuck traveling. Thanks for playing!

Nice game! Funny and chill. I couldn't travel like for some others

Developer

Thanks for playing! Sorry to hear that.

Nice fishing game! I really liked the core reeling mechanic: avoid fish when you go down, catch fish on the way up. The upgrades system is good, although it’s not clear what some of the upgrades do. The game kept slowing down every now and then. Didn’t notice the area unlock upgrades until I read the comments here. Good artwork and music.

I also got travel bug that others have mentioned. :( I was enjoying the game and restarted after that anyway.

For me it felt more luck based what I caught as I couldn't really control the line at that level of sensitivity. Maybe it would work well on a touch screen device?

The visual styles all work well together, I think it's a great first GWJ entry. Well done! :)

Developer

Agreed, I can definitely see this as a casual mobile game, thanks for playing!

The game was quite fun and the music was quite good. However it was very frustrating at times since the smaller fishes just keeps spawning randomly at the side and jump out at fast speed, making it very hard/dependent on luck (at least for me) wether you get to the deeper parts or not.

Developer

Fore sure, there's definitely a element of luck to the game, my personal strategy is to clear the way by reeling in those fast fish and then fish again, hope that helps. Thanks for playing!

Amazing job! Progression was well balanced and the music was great! The game had a very fun loop that kept me pushing for a while until I got better upgrades, and overall an enjoyable experience! Keep it up!

Apart from the travelling bug that I got too, the game was really well made! I thought the fishing part worked well and it was very satisfying to reel several fishes at the same time :)

This game has a lot of really nice components. The fishing component is neat, as one way to get deeper and better catches is to simply improve at the mechanics--although I'm not sure I would ever be good enough at the Coast fishing to get more than a hundred feet or so...

Also along those lines, the mechanic of unlocking new areas with slower fish is very nice. It's actually kind of a unique experience among get-money-for-upgrades games like this--I kept buying new hooks and stuff and not really improving, but once I realized I could buy new areas I figured I should try it. And then that was a major improvement. And getting to that point requires the player to look at the very bottom of the upgrade menu. So, I don't know, it's just kind of a cool hidden path that you sort of have to discover in order to really make progress in the game.

Unfortunately, my computer does not load the Ocean area at all--it basically freezes every time I load it. I am able to load the very last area, but it still lags pretty significantly there and it's not nearly as fun as it could be to fish there. I was going to say maybe a desktop version would be nice, but I just saw it's open source... maybe at some point I'll go run it as a desktop version myself.

It is very cool, however, that the game saves all the progress so I can just refresh the page. That did help at certain points, including the travel bug.

One small note is I quite enjoy the music. Very nice and chill. I would say it made the experience of reloading the page over and over quite relaxing (when I was testing to get into the Ocean).

Overall this is a pretty nice game.

Wow, thanks for such good feedback, glad to hear that you enjoyed it, I really tried to make it a somewhat complete game. I'll need to fix performance for sure, and maybe add categories to the shop to make items more obvious. Thanks for playing!

I really enjoy the fishing mechanics. This can also work great as a mobile game. Maybe let the player control the direction with the "rotation" of the device or just tap and hold the left / right part of the screen ? Anyway great game!

Developer(+1)

Oh, I like that idea, might take it haha

Thanks for playing!

I think you should feel incredibly proud to create such a well fleshed out game in a jam - the amount of items in the shop, the different locations - FANTASTIC!

I didn't run in to the travelling bug as I didn't try to travel before I was worthy.

Developer

Thanks, I tried to make it as diverse as possible.

Chill and polished fishing game. Travel bug happened to me aswell but other than that enjoyed it. Fantastic job.

Wow that was very polished!! I really liked the fishing mechanic, as well as the soundtrack and all the upgrades! Did you even sleep during the jam? lol

Nice job!

Developer

Thanks! Only didn't sleep during the last night of the jam, had to get those finishing touches done haha

An enjoyable and easy to understand game.  I tried to click the other areas before I had unlocked them and got stuck maybe?

Developer(+1)

Thanks, yes looks like one of my last minute "patches" created a bug. However, if you refresh the game you should be able to continue your session, thanks for playing!

Submitted

I like this. I got struck traveling but it was still fun.

Developer

Dang, time to debug, thanks for letting me know.

If you refresh the game it should still have your session stored, thanks for playing!

I love how ambitious this is, with the map menu and the shop and everything.  I also found it very intuitive to get around everywhere, which was nice.  My one suggestion would be to make the fish move slower so you maneuver around them better.  Good job!

Developer

Thanks, I tried my best to make it intuitive.  And I was actually planning on adding upgrades to the shop that gave powers such as slowing down time, but ironically I didn't have time.

Very fun! I'd love to see a version of this with some performance fixes, since I got some *really* heavy lag on the later levels that made it unplayable... :c Still a solid entry!

Developer

I agree performance needs improving, definitely planning on doing that, thanks
