Game Description
You plant trees! You also need to stay warm though so chop down trees, and feed the fire too!

How does your game tie into the theme?
The theme is cozy, so I made a game you can't lose and that is slow paced and relaxing.

Neat game! I like your idea of trying to combine gathering resources and surviving with a cozy/relaxing atmosphere.

However, here are some notes from me regarding how you can make the game better:

  • The art itself is good, but the animations are poorly done
  • It would be great if you implemented an 8-direction movement
  • The music is nice, but it is very repetitive and doesn't really convey any emotion, it's hard to associate it with the gameplay
  • The main objectives in the game - woodcutting and fire feeding - are de facto optional and even futile as they are not rewarding. The moment I understood you just want me to cut trees, grow trees, and feed the fire, I tested what happens if my body heat goes to 0. When I noticed it just decreases my movement speed, I felt unmotivated to do anything since there was no reward nor a punishment.
  • The game hardly feels relaxing. In theory, you have to be constantly running from trees to the campfire - it is hectic.

Nevertheless, I can see you were making it with love! Good job, and keep developing!

Developer

I'm sorry you didn't enjoy the game!

Don't worry, now you have pointers on what you can do better ;)

Neat little relaxing game to play. Artwork was great, though I'll admit the music didn't do it for me as much.

I enjoyed bouncing off of the walls when I ran around. Very cozy game and I didn't feel stressed at all which I think is part of a game being cozy. Planting all of the trees in one spot was fun too haha!

It felt super cozy, and I loved the accidental bug where you could plant all seeds on the fire, and then suddenly you can see ten trees growing at the same time... Too bad I got stuck there after the trees grew.

From a controls perspective I would have loved freeform movement but the seeds being in a grid. Not sure if that would have made your life easier during development though🤔

How do you do the detection? Raycasts and area2D? Or by having the data in your grid? Just interested :D

In any case, very cozy and wholesome vibes and gameplay :) well done

Developer

Yeah, I think if I could do it again I'd have freeform movement with everything else in a grid. I used Raycast2D for the first time with this project for the detection :) Thanks for playing!

Gorgeous art, but the animation and sprite sorting could be better

Cool little game! I enjoyed the art and the music. I kept accidentally planting trees on top of the fire, which made things a bit awkward.

I had a forest by the end of it :)

Neat. Like the graphics. Noticed the fire particles give out. I can see where this was going and would love to see more.

I really like the idea! Nothing more cozy than planting things and watching them grow. Also nice music!

Maybe try to make it that the trees grow only upwards and not downwards... that kinda breaks the immersion :D

But well done! Really fits the theme!

Developer

I agree! I didn't want to make a sprite for each stage of growth because I was running out of time! :) Thanks for playing!
