  • Works well, for sure! The shakes were WAY too much for me, though. And how exactly does it fit the theme? Im lost on that one.

Very fun game. Love the art and sound effects. The screen shaking could have been toned down a tiny bit but still liked it.

Critics are pretty minor, difficulty did not scale until the very end and then running at them and throwing them made it too easy. The controls felt a little lagged not sure if it was a web browser problem though.

Not quite sure how well the theme fits, but hell I enjoyed it, so thanks for submitting.

Developer

Thanks for playing and for the kind words!

Holy screen shake batman. That was a trip. I think the throw might be over powered but other than that it was a fun game. I'm happy to see a beat em up game in the jam. Well done.

I love beating stuff up. There is way too much screenshake though. Overall pretty good.

Great beat'em up, felt really responsive and thats really important in beat'em ups.

It was a little too shaky for my taste (maybe I was rolling them around too much XD )

Also I didn't notice the connection with the jam theme, can you explain?

Developer

Thanks for playing!

I didn’t express the theme in the game, really, though treating it as a principle instead of a theme did help me manage the scope and actually get something done.

so many Toms, is ait a current name in this part of the city ?

Anyway, realy enjoyed the ride, great job !

The only thing missing is this anoying elevator music ;)

Developer

There’s actually some elevator-y music on the pause menu (if you hit escape), but I maybe could have played it between the floors. Hmmmmm future ideas!

Thanks for playing!

This is fun to play.  Felt good to beat those punks up!

The screen shake was not a problem for me once I found just the right earth quake to balance it out :)

Great game, strong entry for the jam!

Developer

lol everyone in that exact earthquake has rated the game very highly! Thanks for playing and for the comment!

That was really fun, I liked the simple artstyle and the overall "juiciness" of the game. There was a bit too much screen shake I agree. I also felt like the "grabbing" was a bit too powerful but I loved doing that even to the big bossy guys that was fun. Something I didn't really like was the theme I didn't really find it in your game. But that was good, nice beat'em up good job!

Developer

Thanks for playing and the kind words! I agree about the grabbing being a bit too powerful - I didn’t have the heart to cut into how much damage it does just yet, because it is fun and speeds up the play through when you can hit multiple people at once. Agreed that the theme is not showing up much - I mostly just said ‘less is more’ to myself to cut scope as much as I could along the way, haha

The screen shaking is too intense, but the game is fun.

Developer

Yeah, I think I agree. I’m glad i tuned it down a bit from where it was, haha. I need to cap it better when it accumulates in the larger fights.

I loved the sound effects and screen shakes!

Developer

Thanks much! Thanks for playing!!

The sounds were all created with gdfxr, an addon I definitely recommend: https://github.com/timothyqiu/gdfxr

The screenshake (camera) implementation is based on this juicy-camera gdc talk: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tu-Qe66AvtY - the bulk of my implementation is on github here: https://github.com/russmatney/dino/blob/main/addons/camera/Cam2D.gd#L380-L460 I hope to create a twitch stream/video tutorial for implementing it from scratch in the next few months!
