A unique mechanic compared to other games, that the dice dictating time instead of abilities. The game is quite challenging, not simply due to the dice and luck but as a platformer not executing a jump properly can spell your doom! This gives the game idea multiple facets of difficulty which I appreciate.

Jump height seems a little high, and there probably should be an indicator on level 1 stating all the controls, otherwise, pretty good jam submission

Developer

Thank you for the feedback, and for playing!

Jump was definitely high, for sure. Intended to fix that, but ran out of time. (I thought my jump system was made to be adjustable, but this was the first time I tried to do it and turns out it's not! :P)

I did have a controls menu available from the pause menu, but I relied on people understanding that pressing escape in games usually brings up the pause menu, and it looks like that is not always a good assumption to make.

Hey! Had fun climbing the tower and collecting dice, think I got lucky with the rolls on my run haha. Not sure about the sprint in its current state, I basically had shift glued down the entire time. Some audio as well would take it to the next level! Good job.

Thank you for the feedback, and for playing!

Yep, should've just made sprint the default movement and not had walking in there. And yeah, definitely needed some audio to make it feel juicier, we just ran out of time. :(

Great concept! For a jam game, the pixel art and presentation are pretty cool! Adding checkpoints would be a big improvement, but excellent work overall !

Also, if you wouldn't mind checking out my game, it would be awesome! :D

great idea~!
I enjoyed the run, and reached the top of the tower! :) simple and fun
congrats on your work!!

some minor feedback:
- pls make some checkpoints ={ felt sad for losing close to the end.
- there is almost no situation where it is a good idea to walk instead of running, so I kept my finger on the shift key the whole time. I think it should be better to make the character run automatically.
- the character felt a bit hard to control

Thank you for playing, and thanks for the feedback!

Agreed that walking was pointless (it was a leftover from when this game was totally different, and we just didn't think to take it out until after the deadline) and that the control is subpar at the moment. Saving progress is something we'll explore for when we expand development on this game.

This was pretty fun. I was a little upset when I learned there were no checkpoints and you start from the beginning when you die but that makes sense because game jam. Other than that, pretty straight forward & pretty fun.

Developer

Thank you, and thanks for playing!

Checkpoints would be interesting to try out in future iterations of the game, will keep that in mind as we explore things to add.

Hi fellow "dice tower" game maker ;) I had a bit of a hard time with the settings (playing on a 4K screen) but managed to fix it, and the controls could need a bit more fine-tuning : jump height seems a bit too important compared to walk/run speed), and maybe we don't need a walk option if the goal is to go as fast as possible ?

However, I really liked the idea of having to take risks to improve your next run, very cool. It's also great that as you get more dice the probabilities smooth out.

Great idea, congratulations!

Developer

Hello, fellow "dice tower" game maker. :D Thank you for the feedback, and thanks for playing!

I'm curious, what did you do to fix the game for 4K? I've never used a 4K monitor before, so I'm blind as to how our games look on them.

Walking was a holdover from when this game was going to be something different, and in hindsight I should have taken it out entirely, since it doesn't serve any purpose. I agree with the controls needing more fine-tuning, for sure!

I'm glad you liked the core idea. We intentionally wanted to try and balance against some of the inherent nature of having randomly-generated results by leaning into probability, and I think we did an okay job of that, for a jam game.

Submitted

I can't blame you, 4k monitors aren't very common. I switched off full-screen, selected full HD resolution, then switched back to full-screen.

"leaning into probability" was definitely a great  way of taking out a bit of randomness while fully respecting the theme, very well done!

Neat concept!  The progression through the levels felt rewarding and fun!  I think it might have been cool to have some kind of minimap, or marker to know where the next door is at when you start a new level for the first time.  As I got further I kind of just had to run aimlessly to explore and just start a new run to try to figure out where the door was in that level. Nice work! 👍👍

Developer

Thank you, and thanks for playing!

We did design the game with the idea that you would have to explore potentially more than once to figure out where things were, but a minimap would be an interesting possibility to explore, for sure!

Reaches the top of tower. Awesome game, stages are great, dice roll has effect on the game. Gameplay is smooth and art is a fine mix with the game awesome job!

Thank you, and thanks for playing!

Pretty fun! Love the concept. A few criticisms though:

  • The addition of the sprint button feels sort of pointless, as in (in my opinion) the walk speed should have just bee a bit faster, since i found myself just holding shift the whole game which was a bit uncomfortable after a while.
  • The platforming physics were a bit janky at times.

Of course this is just my opinion. The game was a fun experience though and I don't regret downloading it! Also eyyy Godot!!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thank you for playing! Agreed, in hindsight I should have removed the walk ability, which was from when this game was going to be something completely different. :P

(And yes, there's definitely some janky platforming that I'd love to fix.)

Ayyyy Godot!

I'm not sure if it's just me, but the first/room or level that is just two doors, it seems I can't even make it to the end in time? It seems my guy walks too slow? He can jump really high!! Maybe I'm missing something like a run button or I see you mentioned dice but I don't think I saw anything?

Developer

Yes, there is a run button. Hold down left shift.
