Quickly jotted down initial post-mortem thoughts post:
Thanks to all who played and rated my game (yes, all of you, seriously, I'm so happy you wanted to give it a shot even if you ended up not being impressed by the end result :) ).
I'm really pleased with the way Alvin, the Wolf, etc. turned out, both in terms of atmosphere and writing and with the mechanic I was able to build the game around, and as the story I was able to tell, although of course I wish it had more puzzles - it was always meant to be built around puzzles using the relationship between the fast, agile, and powerful wolf that turns into a plush when near people, and the boy who can squeeze through narrow gaps and carry plushie Bobbes out of harm's way when he turns into a plush.
This was my first jam game and an RPG Maker game to boot (although of course I built upon the mechanics with my own ), and my main goal was to finish and submit a game - I really didn't know what to expect in terms of popularity, comments, or rating. I'm blown away by how well it did, to be honest, and I'll probably build upon it now that I'm free to upload one or more new versions. I set out to join the jam with no idea how it'd do,
I think I'll learn Unity for my next game jam, as the engine I used is pretty limiting, and my biggest regret is that a lot of people probably just see an RPG Maker game and don't realize there's more under the hood if they just give it a shot ;) .
Either way,
Thanks for the Jam, one and all! It's been big fun and a great learning experience. See y'all next year.
@IslandWind nice game man, first RPG game I have played so far in this jam, it looks interesting I haven't finished the story yet I think I have finished half of it does it have a save system nice game by the way :)
Thanks for the feedback!
You'll come across two lanterns in the woods, interacting with them opens a save screen :).
ok got it
Good game dude
Thanks :)
A cute little game! It reminded me a lot of old nintendo games, I have played. I didn't really figure out how to get a fullscreen, but that is probably my fault. I find it sad, that it doesn't really get much recognition, because I really enjoyed playing it.
Awesome game!
Thanks so much for your feedback ❤.
Funny about the fullscreen, both in-editor and in the extracted .exe it runs in fullscreen for me, and I can toggle between that and windowed with Alt+Enter. Don't really know what's up with that, to be honest.
But again, thanks for the kind words. Glad you enjoyed the game :) .
Maybe it's my pc. It's very slow and old :D
very lovely game - more people should play this game
Thank you ❤. It's my first GMTK submission and I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out :).
Interesting story! I included it in my GMTK compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :)
Thank you so much for playing :) !
Very nice game. I Love the concept and the shifting to (another?) reality. But got stuck after the fight with the Hurrof. It was obvious to throw... I mean let the wolf jump over the water, but couldn't figure out how to get Alvin over. At least not before I ran out of patience.
Firstly, thank you so much for playing my game, and for the feedback :) !
As for the puzzle on how to get Alvin across, that's possibly me not being good enough with allowances/hints again (see the other comments). Hint: you can push certain objects ;).
This is something I probably should've had one of the characters do earlier in the game (like when you can't progress into the living room/kitchen without picking up plushie Bobbes), but I guess I assumed that pushing objects is such a staple of games like this that, I assumed players would try it.
But again, thank you so much for the feedback! This is my first game jam submission, so obviously it's been a learning experience. I'm working on a 1.2 version of this game where I make it more the way I envisioned it, without the time constraints (and perhaps with more puzzles - this game was meant to revolve around puzzle solving), and every bit of feedback helps :) .
Ah yes, It's very easy to overestimate how obvious things are to others. I found it by the way. But it took a few tries before I realised I had to use the interaction key to actually push. And also, I think it would have been more obvious (to me at least) if had been a box or something. You always push boxes around (unless you can break them for goodies). :)
But these are things you learn by playtesting. Especially puzzle games require lots of letting other people play, which there is not much time for during a jam (until now during the rating that is).
I think I reached the end (went into the little copse of trees to the right and used the wolf on the baddie). At that point I couldn't figure out what to do, but overall this is a great submission with charm all over it.
Thanks for your feedback :). You can proceed from where Bobbes eats the Hurrof -- as a small hint, remember that the wolf can leap across bodies of water ;). After that it's a bit of a puzzle to get Alvin to the other side.
Since I've gotten two comments so far from people who couldn't figure out how to proceed, I suppose I'll put more effort next time into allowances and dialogue to nudge the players in the right direction, I didn't mean for this to be part of the challenge of the game ;p.
Again, thanks for the feedback!
Edit: oh, and the game has a distinct ending, so you'll know when you beat it :).
Ahhhh ok, thanks for the tip! :)
Hi, after getting Wolf back and getting to that house at the bottom I didn't find anything left to do. Was that sort of a time limitation based end :D or did I miss out on the right way to go?
The shopping ("a") was a bit buggy but its totally playable!
Well written, amazing presentation, and cool you got music at least outside.
Congratulation on your submission!
If you explore further to the east of the house, you'll find a bridge that takes you back into the woods :). On hindsight I suppose that might not be entirely clear, with the trees and bushes being pretty thick east of your encounter with Rosie, especially when that house and crops kinda draws you to move south.
Sorry if the 'a' key was still buggy, I did what I could to hunt down those bugs, but I guess one or more must've still slipped through. Whoops ;).
Thanks for all your feedback, glad you enjoyed the game!
Don't worry about such minor bigs its so playable! Thanks for making and sharing your game!
