How does your game fit the theme?
Certain game mechanics and controls are randomised each time the level is started according to cards. The more cards are collected, the more the player takes back control.

This is a cool platformer :)
I really liked the level design.

I like the idea but I don't think it fits the theme well. also, there are a few soft lock spots while playing as the inverted guy, really cool though!

Developer

Yeah that's fair! I think if I had more time I would have created more types of cards that could layer on top of each other to randomise things a bit more to better fit the theme. Thanks for playing!

The card mechanic is a really cool, I think this game has a lot of potential if you wanted to develop it into a full game!

Thanks for playing!

That was nice! I got the "normal" one first, and was wondering what was the deal with the theme. Then died and was surprised with the rolling card! I could find the standing card using the rolling mechanics, then the upside down card using the normal mechanics. But I couldn't finish the upside down mechanics, I always got stuck.

I read this after: The more cards are collected, the more the player takes back control.
Does this mean if you find the rolling card you can crouch into a ball in the other "levels"? :o

Developer

Hey thanks for playing!

Yes that's exactly it - if you got the rolling card you would be able to crouch into a ball from then on out. I think I know the bit you are talking about in the upside down mechanics. You have to move a block in the normal mechanics which then falls down into that pit when the world turns upside down, allowing you to progress. However, I accidentally removed a platform before upload that allowed you backtrack out of that pit so you can't get out of there or restart without having moved that block  :(.

I think this puzzle box mechanic of changing something in the level and switching between cards is something I would have leaned into more if I had the time. Plus, I think I would have telegraphed the block gravity switching better by having one at the beginning of the level that the player definitely would have seen in action the first time they get the upside down card. But there's always something more you want to put in after you finish a game jam so yeah xD.

Woah this game was mind numbing, with all the rotating. The idea of picking a character was very smart! The only thing I could recommend is to try and make your own assets next time, well done!

Developer

Hey thanks for playing! This was my first game jam, and if there's anything I can take away from it it's that you're right on that - next time I think I'll work fully in a team to create everything and have people to bounce ideas off of instead of doing it (mostly) solo.
