I've noticed that there are a couple of game jams this time around with the "you can only use one movement option once per level", and I enjoyed how this one was executed. The narrator was incredibly helpful in guiding the player to what they should do or explaining the mechanics, and it was easy to pick yourself up and try again if you messed up- I didn't ever get frustrated trying to complete a level. The story is also very funny, and quite relatable to probably many other developers here!
The pixelated environment and character aesthetic was nice on the eyes, and the music got me pumped.

Developer

Yeah! I was planning to do decent lore, with more levels. But the deadline was close, and I had no notion of how long it would take it. So I decided to use the narrator as a tutorial, and tell the story of how I made the game.

The narrator was a great idea. Nice work.

Developer

Thanks man!

Haha meta games are my jam :D For a first game this is amazing. Not only you did a great movement but also made an interesting game.

Like other people said the text boxes gets in the the way of the gameplay. Also there are some unfair difficulty spikes. The main music feels off for this kind of game its bombastic and fast but we are reading texts and try to make a jump that needs conceration :/

Regardless i had fun playing it you should be proud ! Nice work :D

Developer

I’m so happy to hear that you enjoyed it! Yeah. The narrator was a way of doing my postmortem, lol. Thank you for the kind words!

For your first time its very impressive. The text boxes became more of a hinderance than a help pretty quickly. I would have appreciated it if they paused or were less in the way. The pace of movement etc all really nice.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the nice words, and the feedback! I’ve just made a quickfix that made the game more playable now, basically making the Dialogues way more transparent. Probably it’s less annoying now! haha

Cool game with a very meta story, I love it!

I enjoyed the experience and the soundtrack was banging. If I had one bit of constructive criticism it would be to please make sure the text gets out of the way when I'm trying to do some difficult platforming - having to guess where the character is makes it way harder!

Aside from that. the gameplay was super smooth and the controls were tight, so it felt great. I think you did a great job!

Thank you for the awesome words! Yeah, the UI is a problem that showed up after building the game, and I was unaware of it until after I submitted it. =(. Something about wrapping the scenes together made the UI show up bigger and in front of everything. I’ll fix that soon to make the game more enjoyable for sure! Thank you for the feedback! =D

The game flows well, it is fun, and the visuals and sound design are great! Good job :)

Thank you for the kind words! =D

I'm so sorry I can't play it for some reason! The ground graphics just aren't showing up for me. Not sure if anyone else is having this problem, but all I see is the water. Tried redownloading and no luck.

Developer

I’m so sorry that This happened, I actually spent a lot of time just testing and polishing this kind of problem, nothing like that ever happened to me, in multiple pcs… Thanks for warning me, I’ll make sure to find out what happened and fix it!

The movement feels really tight and makes the game a joy to play. I found the game difficult- but not unfair which made completing each level feel really rewarding.

There were a couple of moments in the game where the UI would obscure obstacles so perhaps it could be triggered by a button input instead of proximity?

Regardless of this, I had a lot of fun!

Developer

Thanks, bud! I was really afraid that the game difficulty was going to be an issue for players to enjoy it, so this feedback makes me very happy! An about the UI, I’m working on it for a later release… it was smaller and at the very top before I built the game, really weird, lol.

What a fun entry! Movement felt responsive, the text sometimes got in the way of actually seeing obstacles while jumping. I like your idea for the theme and the slow spike in difficulty you implemented with your level design. The main menu music was too much for my personally, I had to decrease the volume. All in all not bad for your first game, good job!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the kind words! About the text, it was a weird issue with the scene placement… In my version, they were smaller and at the very top of the screen, and when I built them, they became larger and centered. I’ll patch them out for sure. And the music was a personal choice, made at the last minute. I’ll make sure to put some more thought in later releases!
