Hey-o! I miss having the constant discord discussion that GainJam had - how's eveyone's progress going? How many of the 93 of us are feeling confident about getting something over the line?

Mine's going okay - I've done my usual thing of leaving all the writing until late so hoOooooo gonna be a typo-fest.

Me and my little team are doing well c: I'm not very confident that all the gameplay visuals will get finished, but the mechanics and writing definitely will be - I've been working incredibly hard to ensure that. I'm pretty excited about it too! c:

I've also left writing to a little later, but that's by necessity - I built a text parser system that reads strings from a .csv, and can do some basic 'codes.' I've also had to program a bunch of other systems stuff as a prerequisite to writing, so it's only yesterday that I got to the point where it was really an option. I've definitively crossed that hurdle though, so now I can just grind writing & scripting out, plus the odd other asset or additional code.

So, very confident that we'll be submitting, it'll just probably have very inconsistent visual quality. Still feeling good about the project ^w^

I can't believe so many people joined the jam, I'm kind of nervous haha

Imagine how we feel :)

I'm making decent progress! I'm making this in Twine and the coding is pretty much finished, so I'll be able to spend the last week focusing on the writing, if all goes well.

Slowly making progress! Alternating between "wow im gonna everything done by the deadline!" and "im so stupid im so stupid im not fit to work a keyboard" but I think that's just what programming is like haha

That said, I haven't even begun to replace the placeholder graphics yet..........

My indecisiveness kicked me real hard in the beginning and cost me a few days. But core gameplay is mostly done now, as well as most of the UI (God i hate UI). Just a few  more things to work out. Art is another story... Everything right now is either a square or a circle (╥﹏╥). After tomorrow I plan on working solely on the art.

All in all probably about halfway done, which being at halfway point, isnt too bad i suppose.

Inching ever closer. Might be closer to a CYOA style story then a game but hey still counts

:P

So so. Things are functional but not fun. I can only work for a few hours on Saturday mornings so this weekend is going to be the last push to add at least a little fun for it.

As I wasn't confident in having assets, I focused on the writing, but now there is all the links and alternative texts to manage. The high temperatures where I am doesn't help while I already don't have much free time to work on it. Not sure I can get it polished. >.<

Late last night/early this morning I decided to throw away almost all of the work and try something else. Three things happened in this order:

  1. I was really surprised that the new mechanic worked really well with the theme and was a little sexy.
  2. The game seemed more or less complete.
  3. I realized I have time left over for polish.

So things went from pretty bad to actually surprisingly good. I just need to figure out where I want to add polish. I’m worried that if I add odd encounters it might throw off the balance in the late game.

the stress got to me, I resign (my game is nowhere near finished and I simply don't have the time or motivation)

that's such a shame!  your bee game was really cute, i was hoping to see what you'd come up with!!

I might finish it later on in my own time, but definitely not for the jam

Who else compulsively pulls the threads of the project apart to fix niggling issues during the last half-day, like some sort of programmer's skin picking disorder??

I keep refreshing and want to add a balance patch but I’m worried I’ll break everything forever.

I should’ve decided whether or not I was gonna do this before the halfway point of the jam. I cut my scope back this time but still ended up pushing the project right at the deadline (literally less than a minute left), although unlike last year it’s at least two-thirds of the way tested!
