I adore the premise of this seagull simulator, terrorising people and plundering their food. I found the control scheme rather tastefully-executed, needing to manually flap the seagull’s wings, and I found the cardboard aesthetics of the NPCs (and the physics they suffer upon getting dived) to be pretty cool as well. I also appreciate the effort the NPCs put into retrieving their chips upon losing it.
Overall, good prototype.
However, I do find the lack of any real gameplay to be a bit disappointing. There’s just the three NPCs with their chips which can be stolen, and there’s nothing to do with the food upon stealing it. There’s no objectives, no means of scoring points, no win conditions, no lose conditions, nothing. I eventually just opted to try stealing all the chips and drop them into the sea/off the edge of the world, which prompted the NPCs to chase the food into the abyss. After which there was nothing else to do.
Still, good effort.
I love the premise, and the music was really good. I would like to hear it it looping seamlessly though. I found the controls a bit (sq)awkward, and I could not make the points go up, despite successfully stealing the little yellow squares (placeholder stand-ins for the chips?). I'm also not sure if dashing into the villagers was intended (funny and satisfying) or to be avoided (I was always immobilised temporarily afterwards) and I think that using sfx to reinforce the perception of either 'well done, do that again!' or 'oops, you crashed' would be helpful to guide the player to do what you are intending. A great start! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for pointing out the music! I agree that the music could be made more loopable, and adding more sfx would certainly make the game much livelier.
We are still making improvements to the game and we hope to have a finished version later.
Let me know when you publish the updated version, I'd like to try it :)
I managed to liberate a few chips but wasn't sure what to do with them after XD
Loved the visuals, the bowling people over effect and [s]quawking easter egg!
Thanks for trying the game out! We are currently still working on finishing the game, so feel free to try out the more finalised game later!
I thought the controls used wasd at first and ended up dashing off the edge into the ocean XD
I had another go and started to get used to the controls and managed to steal a chip and knock over the villagers. Cute premise. I felt very chaotic.
I adore hte music, it's very suave pirate music.
I also love the thumbnail animation!
Im glad you had fun! It makes me smile when someone mentions about the music, thank you
It was super fun zooming around and knocking over the villagers XD
The music was also really great, very fitting and brought a lot of life to the game!
Thanks for playing! Im glad you enjoy the music
