Im still in the middle of playing this, but I wanted to get this in before the deadline-

I adore the style, the story seems interesting, and I love the rain effects

Edit: So I got to the second to last room, beat the boss, and then after trying to talk to one of the cultists in the room the controls lock up. I also had another lockup happen next to the outside of the church after getting the final item, and I think after a random battle, so I'm guessing the issues are with battling, but otherwise it played perfectly. Its awesome that you put the ending up on yt cause I really wanted to see how it ended!

Really like this premise for a story. You can do a lot with it (if you aren't inhibited by the length of a game jam.) You show the potential of it really well.

Hard to say something that hasn't already been said, so I'll just add that I'm a fan of the hands grabbing for you when you get near to them.

Thank you so much, I am happy you enjoyed it :)

Really like the story! The game is perfectly balanced, not too long, not too short. The only real negative thing I could say is that it took 2 reloads to get it running on the website. But it's minor enough thing to not influence the game overall. Great job!

Developer

Yeah I can see how the loading can be a bit weird as it's a hacked compiler. You're not actually supposed to be able to play this on itch.io. Thank you for your kind words I am glad you liked the story :)

Awesome game! I love the details you put into each location. Getting into the basement to see the summoning area is where it landed for me with the spooky theme. Good job.

It's a really nice game, like the story and the gameplay. I think the random encounters happened to often though.

The monster designs and also the art in general is just beutifull. :D

Yeah, there was a bit of rushing at the end with the encounters and everything. I could and can definitely do better in this department! Thanks for playing anyways! :)

It was a little too much storytelling for me but the game itself was great! I would love to see the combat more... I was hoping to have a great bossfight but it ended in one hit. But this is the only negative I have! The rest (graphics, sound, story) mesh beautifully together! I would love to see an expansion on this. Great job!

Developer

I definitely overscoped the game and ended up having to add so much text just to convey the story. I agree that I probably should have added less text or turned it into a visual novel.

The combat system should have definitely been expanded on and it was also supposed to have a mechanic where reading lore was gonna give you extra stats but did not have time to add that.

Thank you so much for playing my game!

Very very good. I didn't get to play much, unlock the door go to the basement, but then wandering aimlessly. :-D But I did enjoy the graphics (zelda influences am I right, I had some too :-D) and music. I would prefer instead zx keys to the keypad for d-pad left and buttons right setup for the GB soul, but ok, it's just personal preference just for this jam. Excellent work.

Developer

You really need to follow the dialogue to know what you have to do next. After going down in the basement you need to pick up the note near the dead cultist body. It will tell you where to go next.

The game has controller support so you can use a game controller to play the game for a more nostalgic feel. I also used the most common set up for gameboy emulators.

I do not use controller :-P so I am trying to map it on a keyboard as accurate as possible ;-)

Oh, dead body. I missed that...

The art and music in this one are lovingly hand-crafted. Unfortunately I got stuck early – I don't know how to progress the story past the church pastor. I'd love a tip so I can keep trying!

Developer

Have you managed to open the door in the church yet?

Some real solid and deep lore going on with this one, if there was a category for “story” I’m sure this would win by a mile! The art and music is great, I especially like the enemies in the battle sequences. The purple palette is pretty unique too.

Super cool stuff.
