Cute game concept. Keep the good work!

Developer

Thanks! I appreciate the encouragement! I'm already working on my submission for Metroidvania 28! It's looking pretty awesome so far. A lot of the lessons I learned from this game jam I've been applying all week to the next one.

Interesting idea with the bakery on your own little planet. Liked the surreal setting. Wasn't too sure what to do next, but the vibe was cool. Would be nice if there was more to do or some extra interactions, but there’s a good foundation here for something fun.

Developer

Thanks. Yeah the reception has been much more positive than I expected TBH. If you want a challenge, you can try falling off the planet. There's a bug that allows it. I addressed the lack of things to do in my DevLog: Post Mortem: The Restaurant at the End of the Universe

Haha, just danced a bit :)

Developer

I'm glad you enjoyed dancing!

I like the concept. Not sure what I was suppose to do. So I just danced around :)

Developer

Yeah that was my problem. I couldn't figure out the game loop. This morning I realized it would've been fun to make into a platformer where you jump away from the planet farther and farther. Right now the only real thing you can do is figure out how to fall off the planet.

I wrote a devlog about the things that kept me from finishing the game: https://dragonforge-development.itch.io/the-bakery-at-the-end-of-the-universe/de...

Nice concept. Sorry to see it didn't come together the way you wanted.

Developer

Thanks, I appreciate it.

I read the Post Mortem you posted. Sorry for you had this experience. I whish you the best for the next Jam.

What I really liked where the Splash Screens at the beginning. Was the only game I played so far having this. Only improvement, make them skippable, so people don’t have to watch them every time. And maybe when pressing the esc not only leaving to desktop but back to Main Menu. I fell from the planet, and was pretty annoying to restart complete.

Hahahaha yeah I have thought of a couple things I can do to prevent gravity making you fall. One is to make the gravity vector towards the middle of the planet, but an easier one I think is to change the collision so that you can't walk up on stuff that is less than a 90 degree angle. Sorry about that.

Thanks for your well wishes and I hope you got something out of the post mortem.

Good note on the skippable splash screens. I have made a note to add that feature in. I actually have a boolean value set when working on it that I can toggle to turn them off, so I don't think about that. In the future, I actually plan on doing background loading under the splash screens, but I can make it skippable anyway and have another loading screen underway. Those (and the menu) are actually structured as plugins that I made so I can drop them into games quickly. But this was actually my first game jam dropping them in as a plugin, and I learned a lot. It also manages all the sound, display, control configuration, volume, etc.

Esc going back to desktop instead of main menu is in fact a bug. Same thing happens if you press B on the controller to dance, because it's also the cancel/back button. I need to turn listening off for the menus when the game is playing. Thanks for the input. It was really helpful.

I’m happy I could help, and yes the Post Mortem gave me some very interesting insight, so many thanks for taking the time to write it. Also reading your comment, gives me the impression you are very eager and on on a good track to become a great developer. Left you a follow.

"Press E to Pose" is that a JOJO reference 0_0?! haha, apart from that, what an interesting idea to have your own little planet to do some bakery :D. Great job!

Developer

Ha thanks. No I don't even get the reference so not intended. LOL I actually make all my games for controllers, but I know some people only have keyboards for playing, and Q and E are easier to press without strain when playing WASD.

The setting and cosmic charm! Loved the surreal vibe of running a bakery at the edge of everything. Would be great to see more interactions or dialogue to deepen the atmosphere, but it’s already a vibe.

Developer

Thank you! I had plans for that, but well, I explained what happened in my devlog. I even had conversations planned between the customers as you served them. Originally I was going to place tables all over the planet and make it like a cook dash kinda game. However I'm really glad it had atmosphere. I'm actually really sad I had to yank out all the music I had paid for. It had a very chill vibe then and the dance music was even better.

I'm sorry I was unable to play this, I got an error when I tried to unzip the executeable. I wont rate it, obviously. But do comment if you're able to upload a fixed version. I'm on Windows PC

Developer

Thanks. I'll take a look. I did download it myself and make sure it worked before posting it, but I'll double-check.

Developer

I just tried downloading it again. I did get a warning because it isn't signed, so I got a Windows warning and had to press Run Anyway. But when I did that it ran fine.

Weirdly, I used Butler to upload it as an exe, and then I uploaded it as a zip, and instead of replacing the exe with a zip, its still there as an exe. Maybe this is a feature?

I was dancing all over the world!

Developer

I'm glad you had fun with it!

I wrote a post mortem. It never really came together for me. https://dragonforge-development.itch.io/the-bakery-at-the-end-of-the-universe/de...
