Quite a fun game! Beat it on the first try but will certainly go back to try a different build.
Congratulations on the artstyle and general vibe, specially on the inventory system, that was a delight.

If I had anything to point out is maybe that the theme interpretation was a bit weak. If you get rid of the "scaling" and change it for literally anything else you could very well just have the same game which means it wasn't specially well implemented.

But appart from that, the game's a delight and it's got some potential! Keep it up!

Developer

Thanks for the review!

You are quite correct that the theme is our weakest point. This year we focused more on having an actual fun game as we did very well on theme last year but the game was lacking.

So far the reviews on the game part have been even better than we hoped, so I'll gladly accept a lower score on theme.

Congrats on beating the game and if you want to come back to try out some more, don't forget there is a new daily challenge unlocked each day :)

good game loop, everything feels very smooth and fun

Developer

Thanks so much for the kind words!

I spent about an hour playing this and really enjoyed it. I optimised for mobility so that I could run circles around things and only suffered one setback. In a future build I'd suggest making boots rarer in the shop so that you can eventually reach the same level of speed but it takes longer.

Very good and well-polished!

Developer

About an hour! That really is amazing to hear :)

I think there are a lot of very strong builds possible in the current game. Going for speed certainly is one of them!

Awesome game, i don't likes rogue likes and vampire survivor but i gladly played and finished this. I think the inventory system is a really cool and awesome idea

Developer

Thanks a lot!

Lovely to hear that we can even convince someone who is not into the genre to finish the game :D

This is really good, some nitpick is that I think the player scale a bit too fast, and the final boss is a bit anti climatic, however I could see it become a full steam game!

Developer

Thanks for the review!

The game is scaling fast on purpose, we want to show a lot of scaling in a short timeframe as this is a gamejam. If we ever get in on Steam the scaling will be more gradual, so you are correct that it is fast now :D

(And people have died to the boss, so most likely you had a very good build if you steamrolled it ;D)

Wow great job. I love gameplay it's really addictive. There are plenty of equipment to play with and I can't stop playing this. Congratulations

Developer

Always good to hear we created a fun addiction :D

Thanks a lot!

Great game! I really like how the inventory works in between levels

Developer

Thanks for the kind words!

We actually had a lot of problems getting the inventory to work correctly. I fact it was not fixed until 3 days before the end :)

Submitted(+1)

Very fun! I played through the whole thing!

Developer

Glad you had fun!

Congrats on beating the game :)

Great Game! i used to play a similar game on my Mobile but this one tops it in terms of story and weapons and i really do like this inventory system, once you get used to it, i feel its vial as it will be different with each player. Overall, i really enjoyed this game, and would really love to see it polished till the end with more levels and challenges! great work! and i got till level 4 but died there XD

Developer

You can always try again, or wait until we finish the game for real after the game jam ;)
But responses like this make me wanna start tomorrow already on the expansion/reboot of this game !

Thanks a lot and glad you enjoyed it  :D

The game looks super detailed and polished. You did a great job and did it well. Congratulations.

Developer

Thanks for the praise :D

Wow , Just an incredible game. really ambitious for a game jam but really payed off.

Love the combination of backpack hero and vampire survivors . really well done, all around.

If i had to suggest something, maybe have gold on the mini map, but really thats all i can think of

Developer(+1)

It sure was ambitious, but we are glad we took the "risk" because we are really happy with how it turned out.

Thanks for your review and we will take your suggestion into account of course ;D

I mean this is just great game isn't it! Amazing that you made it in 1 Month. Definitely going to be one of the top submissions.

To try and give some constructive feedback (I'm nitpicking here), it would be nice if instead of buying the item as soon as you drag it out of its shop slot, you buy it when you place it instead. Couple times I picked up an item to see how it fits (I know it shows its size in the popup, but I auto try fit it) and accidentally bought it.

Another thing I'd note is the very first level feels a little bit slow. Maybe up the basic weapon base damage by 1?

As I said, these are very minor points. Suberb game. Full marks all round. Congratulations!

Developer(+1)

I mean, this is just a great review isn't it!

Thanks a lot!

Your point of buying items when placing them instead of when dragging them was brought up by our testers also, so we will take that into account when expanding on this idea.

And nitpicking is fine, we love to hear what can be improved :)

Submitted(+1)

I really like the storage mechanic paired with buying items. Has a good level of polish as well. Good job!

Developer

Thanks a lot! :)

Submitted(+1)

This was made in 1 month ! WOW ! I had fun playing it. There are many interesting mechanics that are sure worth expanding on. For example the buying and storing is very unique. I enjoyed this, thank you for this experience.

Developer

That is some high praise so thank you very much !

And don't worry, we are going to expand on this  ! :D

Submitted(+1)

Loved this. Very well done.

When the level completes and you can buy stuff, you can still run around and collect coins. Which I liked. :D

Developer

Thanks for the kind words !

We knew about the running around bug as this was not intended but as it was not gamebreaking we left it in to see if anybody would notice.
So congrats to you for being the first to find it ! ;D

The game is enjoyable, but it didn't resonate with me, possibly due to the audio design not quite fitting the game. The graphics look professional, and the idea is promising. With some small adjustments and improvements, this could work well on mobile.

Check out my game submission: https://ricotv.itch.io/full-scale-invasion

Developer(+1)

Too bad the audio did not fit the game for you. Was it the music or the attack sounds mostly that you found unfitting?

Thanks for the kind words and the feedback !

(+1)

Regarding the sound effects, they just need to feel more impactful. The music in the menu is great, but in the main game, it feels a bit unfitting. Maybe something more orchestral could work? A bit more energy.

Developer

Thanks, we will take this into account !

(+1)

The game is really addicting and fun. Amazing work!

Submitted(+1)

Really neat spin on the rogue-like/bullet hell genre! The final boss seems like he needs to be slightly harder, other than that its really really well made! Had fun playing it, nice job :D

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot, glad you enjoyed it !

I'm guessing you are familiar with these kinds of games and can find the more powerful items/build easier as some of our testers actually had a hard time defeating the boss ;)

Submitted(+1)

Makes sense! I do often play these kind of games, so yeah I guess that made it out the way I described the final experience ahah It felt like if you maintain a balance between damage with armour + HP, the boss would hit me often, but not deal any significant amount of damage (Some of the blue projectiles even did 0 damage it felt like) and I could just tank the damage while out damaging it. I would really like to see this game evolve, feels like it has potential! Do both of you plan to keep working on it?

Developer(+1)

Yes we will be working on the game together, starting from scratch and taking lessons learned from this gam. It also won't be made in a month this time so we can take time to set up our systems correctly instead of making a lot of spaghetti code just to get stuff to work ;D

Submitted

Awesome! I’ll definitely be on the look out for that game ^^

Submitted(+1)

Looks good and feels good, I couldn't ask for more! I will keep coming back to play a few more rounds 😋

Developer(+1)

Love to hear this!
A new daily challenge unlocks each day and although we had some trouble maiking them all unique and challenging there are for sure some tough ones in there so I hope to see you on the leaderboards for the daily challenges soon (sadly we didn't have time to show the leaderboards in game, but we can see how many people actually finished the game and daily challenges)

Submitted(+1)

That's very cool, you have something very interesting in your hands, so keep up the good work and good luck with this project!! ☺️
