How does you game fit the theme?
Answering this defeats the whole artistic/story purposes of the game...

Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
Yes. I used blueprints. in unreal engine, and I made everything from scratch.
The Soundtracks were also from scratch, made by @b_o_n_e_z_ on twitter.

The visuals and music are really cool! I couldn´t actually see the hints, I just pressed all the buttons to see if there was something else the character could do and just stumbled upon it. After I knew the answer, i could see the hints, but I didn´t really use logic to solve it.
Overall, it was a nice and chill game! Good work

Developer

Thanks!

I mean, technically you did use some kind of "logic" to get to the answer. There was intent by you (i) to think and try to find the solution.

So, great job on finding it. Sometimes in life you just do stuff and it works sometimes. "It do be like that sometimes"

These days I started to think that "luck" might be a great factor in art sometimes. Not to say that this situation was "luck", because there was intent and a thinking process, so it's not entirely that way.

I guess the equation is:

Thinking with intent + a little luck = achieving something sometimes haha

Anyways enough rambling. Yeah I might need to add more ways for hints next time, and rethink my artistic/design choices.

Also, thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it!

Alright so going off of this page, you probably have some artistic vision for the game, which is great! Unfortunately, it seems to have went over my head because apart from going in circles on this ever-repeating map I had absolutely no idea what to do

The visual and audio design was really solid tho!

Developer

Thanks, I'm glad you liked the visuals and audio. Yeah Bonez did a great job on the soundtracks!

I guess it's really difficult to tell a story with literally 1 letter lol.

Btw, thanks for the feedback. This makes me re-think my artistic/design decisions in the future, Because what's the point of a story if nobody gets it. I did intent not saying  anything except the name of the game, but now I know that it might be better in future projects to find more ways to tell the story to the player.
And I really do get you. I remember I played Journey once. I literally played through the whole game and did not know what the story was about, but I REALLY enjoyed it  because it was just soooo beautiful visually and charming!

Also, the world isn't repeating, it only looks as if it is. You wander with no purpose.. or at least you think there's no purpose, So you just keep moving forward and keep "looping", until you stop, and start wondering, start thinking. You might figure it out. You might stumble upon it by luck, but eventually you'll get it. You'll often find that the answer was right in front of you this whole time.

Good luck, and thanks again for the feedback.

Ah yea, I'm glad I could provide useful feedback! I think it could help to consider how different player types might interact with your game to make sure you get your story across. Because I am used to getting lost in games and then just scouring the map for anything I missed, and so if I got through everything on a seeminly-repeating map and didn't find a way, I'd assume that's the end of my time with the game.

But other players with different previous experiences will react to these circumstances differently!

Developer (1 edit)

Nice. Yeah makes a lot of sense.

I'll keep that point of view in mind next time I'm developing a game, thanks!

When I was at a loss in the black and white world, I thought of your tips, and the world suddenly became happy! :P

Developer(+1)

You're actually the first one to solve it, well done!

I hope your world becomes happy as well :)

I also hope you find what makes you feel alive too ;)

Submitted(+1)

Your words really warmed me a lot, thank you!  :'-)

I hope your life is happy most of the time :D

Developer

Thanks <3

Btw, did you make it to the end?

Sorry for all the questions, I just wanna know the opinion of someone who actually finished the game.

I'm interested to see your interpretations

At first I was hopping around on the black and white platform, looking for possible interactions (but didn't find them), walking all the way to the right and found that it was a reincarnation, and then I was at a loss.

At this time, I pressed "i" and suddenly found that the scene and bgm changed all at once (I was like "wow" at that time), and then looked for the possible interaction again (still didn't find it), and realized that it was still a reincarnation. Then I just jumped freely to different platforms without any purpose, listening to the bgm :D

Developer

Interesting...

Makes me consider my design decisions next time.

Yeah ikr! Bonez did a great job with the bgm!!!

Go again, keep moving forward,  there's more to "i" than just that :)

(I think I might delete the comments later,  just so I don't spoil the story experience for other players.)

Developer

Hey, thanks.

I loved your game, everything about it.

I don't know about the game jam you're talking about, could you provide a link?

Also, there's more to the game than that btw...
You'll often find that the answer was right in front of you this whole time. Good Luck!

https://itch.io/jam/black-and-white-jam-8, I think it fits because you used 2 colors, would be a great entry there too.

Developer

Alright, thanks for the recommendation <3

It looks fun but unfortunately I can't open it. Which app can open this file?

Developer

Imma be honest with you, it's not really fun lol.

Unless if you enjoy art/music or smth.

And the program is WinRAR

You use this program to extract files from this compressed format.

I like the vibe, and the song is really great - it almost reminds me of old Animal Crossing music. I'm also a big fan of the abstract art style.

However, I think I got stuck on the part after I fell off the edge, because I couldn't do anything after that point. I'd like to know what happens after, but I wasn't able to progress.

Thanks!

Developer

Hey, thanks for the feedback.

Yeah, you're supposed to get stuck, so you can stop and think... Start asking yourself questions, you'll often find that the answer was right in front of you this whole time!

Developer

+ Sorry for keeping the info as abstract as the art style. But in the game "i" , I chose story over the game design decision to help the player too much. Because the whole point of the game is what you (i) goes through...

So will  i  get stuck like everyone else?

Or will  i  finaly stop and think for a little bit, and then capture that bittersweet feeling right after. Mixed with joy, accomplishment, slight anger, and laughter.
