Nice concept! I think the quick save think can be taken a bit further but I don't know if that would be to 'meta' hehe ... really enjoyed it and got many runs to continue upgrading my weapons (also found challenging not upgrading armor to be some sort of glass cannon)
really nice game and very complete for only a week being a team of one dev, huge props!!!

In what way does your game fit the theme?
Its a game about causing chaos in a village.
Did you write all the code yourself and made all the assets from scratch?
I made all the code but the assets are all from itch.io.

Loving the rather deep progression, though it would be nice if with stronger swords/armor, there would also be stronger enemies, since the sword dudes become a non issue somewhere in the middle of the sword progression.
Great job for an RPG roguelite made in a week, I'm very impressed.
Didn't expect a rogue-lite RPG game in a game jam. Impressive work! Great pixel art and music. UI is nice.
I can't expect more for an RPG game in just a week, but here are some critiques.
In terms of art, the resolution of the coin is too high compare to other pixel art.
Feel a bit bored in mid-game and late-game, because the upgrade seems not to give any new effects.
Disappointed that there is nothing in the door...
Anyway, awesome game! great job!
Hi!
First, thank you for your feedback.
Yes, the problem with the pixel art is that I picked a couple of pixel art packs and used it on the game, tried to make it cohesive but it's not perfect. In future versions I'd like to add pixel art made specifically for the game.
Yep I intend to add more progression and some effects to the weapons and armor.
And finally behind the door should have been a boss but is bugged and it disappears after the first run and never respawns again.
There are some annoying bugs. I can die while in the menu and while looking at the shop. The ui also glitches out sometimes and the hp bar often goes behind buildings. If you fix these, it will be a great and addictive game :D Maybe make the building drop a little more money? Currently it doesnt worth it to destroy them when the guards give so much compared to them.
Well done! You've managed to get a lot done in a week. Took me a while to realise I was the bad guy and had to kill the innocent civilians. It sure gets grindy later on and would have loved to see an end boss or a win condition. Congrats for completing the jam.
Even though it's a short little game it has a good feel to it. I felt underpowered against the guards - some mechanic to kill them (or maybe make them kill each other?) would extend the game a lot imo. Great job!
I would love you to rate my entry as well - I can't seem to get enough ratings
The pixel arts are cute. My only problem is the menu doesn't fit my screen because I only have a 16 inch monitor. But still a good game
Very cool game, it took me a little while to know what I was doing but once I got the hang of it I had a lot of fun, also the pixel art is awesome :D
This game honestly was very fun to play, at first I didn't completely got it, but when I did I thought it was a very clever and innovative way to make a game. Slowly getting more money, spending it to get more powerful, and then get more money by being more powerful was a pretty enjoyable gameplay loop. The walking and enemy AI usually feels good, but sometimes the player or the enemies can't go on places that the should be able to. The music and sounds are very nice, I would have just added a few more to add to the immersion. I like the look style of the game, my only problem is that there was any change in the player's weapons or armour when buying a new one. One thing I didn't understand is why am I attacking this village, what have they done to me that justifies me killing them all? Also I would have preferred if there was a way to win. At first I thought that destroying the gate at the middle would make me win or at least lead to that, and it did lead to a new area but there was nothing special about it. Killing all the villagers or destroying houses doesn't do much either, as the warrior just keep on spawning. Also, sometimes I was moving and being attacked before pressing the start button. I know I listed quite a few faults here, but this is one of the better games I played this jam, it was enjoyable and had quite a unique concept, which caused me to spend a good amount of time playing it, and giving it a high rating.
Hi! Thank you for playing and for the feedback
Yes, the bugs that you mentioned in your comment are the first on my to do list because I didn't have time during the jam to polish those things and now that is finished I can start to fix those things.
After you break the door a boss should appear and when you kill it the game would end but the game has a bug and after the first run the boss despawns and it doesn't respawn again.
Thank you for the feedback!
Is it buggy? Yes. Could the Ai use some improvements? Should the difficulty ramp up more as you wreak more havoc? Yes. Did I buy the freaking feather sword? Yes.
You got me man. You really got me. I've played over 40 games now from this jam is this one is my favorite. There's ways to improve for sure - but what really matters is that the core of this game is incredibly satisfying. It really encapsulates that feeling you get when somebody doubts that you've been to the cloud district.
My advice? Keep adding to this game! Make more content, more maps, more characters to play as, more enemies, or whatever you think is best for the game - those are all just suggestions. Keep building this game up, and you'll end up with something really special :)
Wow, this game is so fun, couple of things bother me
-The shop: it looks good, the pixel art is just my taste but, you cant buy items even if you have the money for it just because you didn't unlock the one before, I think it's a cool feature but useless..
-Animation is good when you don't hold left click if you do it becomes a bit janky.
-sometimes you will get attacked and die to invisible enemies(or finish a run get the money and instantly die again and get no money, you do get the money for the original run but its just a bug)
-When I broke the last door nothing special happened, no new scene or new buildings to destroy.
-HP bar needs to be the first layer, it sometimes goes behind the buildings.
Other then that was one of the best games that I've played yet if you polish the things I wrote and add some other stuff this game would be really good.
If I haven't said it yet the art style is just sooo goooodd!!!
Hi!
The thing with the shop is to give some feeling of progress, I was thinking of adding player levels and perhaps requirement of player level to weapons but I have to think it.
The animations and the AI are at the top of my To Do list for future patches for the game.
Behind the last door should have been the king, like I said to another comment, but your comment gave me the idea to add some scene when you break the door to present the boss to the player. Thanks!
The ting about the HP bar is that I have to rearrange all the layers for all the sprites because right now is a mess.
Thank you for the comment and the feedback!
Had really fun playing this... Hacking around is oddly satisfacting. :) I was a bit dissapointed though when I first got through the gate, I mean 1000 gold is good, but I was hoping to find more monsters or something behind that gate.
I think you should continue developing this game. It is a good start. Add more monster types & levels. Popping damage numbers when you hit something and also popping numbers for gold when player has destroyed something. I can see this would work well as a mobile game.
Hi!
The king should have been behind the door, which is the final boss of the level but seeing the comments I'm starting to think that I uploaded a version with a broken boss, or at least with a boss who doesn't pop the credits when he dies.
I intend to continue developing the game, I want to add monsters but helping the adventurer and more type of wards with different abilities like archers or I don't know ninjas perhaps.
I will certainly add the coins and the damage dealed markers on my To do list.
Thank you for your comment!
Super, super fun game. Progression felt really good, even after it started getting a little grindy. The buildings were a bit of a damage sponge, but even that still felt good because I knew I was well on my way to getting the next upgrade. Great work, hope this expands into a bigger game in the future.
