Any other Godot first-timers?

For this jam I decided to step away from Unity, and take Godot for a spin... and WOW. I'm in love

Two things that really made all the difference for jamming:

  1. Code updates in realtime.
  2. HTML browser export that actually worked on one click! No weird errors or differences (at least in my case, used compatibility mode)

Anyone else make the switch and find these same joys? I'd love to see what you made if so! I'll even rate it :)

Here's my Godot-made game "omw home" for those interested!

Your lucky : Godot web export is way more unstable than Unity for us !

It is not running the same at all depending on OS, and we have some weird bugs not visible on the editor depending on which configuration is used to export the final HTML file....

Apart from that we made the same switch from Unity to Godot 2 years ago for a ludum dare game jam and never regreted it! It is a wonderful pieceof software.

Oh no! Good to know that's it's not immune, and maybe I got lucky. Did you build it in compatibility mode from the start or something else? Also I'd love to check out what you made if you have a link!

Well, turns out one of our computer ".godot" folder got all messed up which causes all this weird issues only when exporting in web... We still have issue on our game depending on the browser (Opera and IE for example) and some weird graphical glitches on Linux...

But the nice thing with Godot is that it is becoming better and better with time, and way more stable :)

Sure, we will be glad if you try our game ! You can find it Here. We are especially open to honest feedback since it's our first time making that kind of game.

I am a newbie here and straight to Godot for me. This was my first game jam and game and I really enjoyed the contraints of the game jam. The time pressure pushed me to try to keep scope tight and get something playable and submission ready. Also +1 for Godot. It is a superb engine and I am not going to be looking elsewhere as I continue to game dev...

Take a look at my game if you have the time. It is a wee strategy game that involves rolling, dragging and using dice to fix space station systems and complete missions.

Houston... we have a problem... https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-13/rate/3343004

Any feedback would be awesome and a rating would be really appreciated!

Checking yours out now.

This was our first game jam and our first time making a full game with godot! We tried making a rhythm game which proved a little challenging given the limitations of the audio server in the engine, and I had to do some finnicky stuff with the export because Godot 4.3 Web Export broke our game due to a glitch with the AudioServer.get_playback_position() function not working with JS. To fix, we had to bring the game into Godot 4.4dev2 and do the export there because a glitch fix had thankfully been merged into that dev preview. It was a journey!

But we got it out in the end! If you want to check it out, I'd recommend reading through the itch description: https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-13/rate/3345322

Planning on playing yours next, can't wait!

Wow you got really deep into the audio side it sounds like, great tips I'll keep them in mind!

Just played yours, so fun I'll be sure to leave a rating and review :)

I'm so glad. I spent years in Unity and then about a year in Unreal and tried some other smaller ones. Godot is just so clean and simple to me, no bloat, perfect for indie dev.

Been stuck on Godot since I started and I’m glad you had a good time with it! The web export definitely gave me some troubles this time but nothing a few clicks couldn’t beat. First game jam here and first time trying a web build soon. Will check out your game later tonight!

Awesome sub sim game! Rated and commented. Seemed to work great in my browser btw, I just had to full screen it so the mouse stayed captured

Thank you for the rate, and that’s good to hear! The web build was pretty rushed out so I put a disclaimer just in case haha. Once I have a little time I am excited to check yours out!
