Fun tetris spinoff, although I didn't read the rules at first so I was a little lost lol

Nice concept of a tetris spinoff. Well done! very fresh!

Great take on the usual Tetris-style game. The non-ending game bug was great cause I loved the music and didn't mind the song resetting. Gameplay worked pretty well and made me think in a new way, which is great. Good job!

Thank you ! glad you like it, as my first gamejam it was quit enjoyable and learned a lot on how to do things. Here is my current version on a different upload if you want to try it out, with no time, an online leaderboard and fixes. https://h-nix.itch.io/blocksurvival-20

I tried your game again and understood it this time pretty well, I actually liked it a lot, nice job on the unique concept and execution! To improve it, besides the bugs you are already aware of I think there should be a way to set the speed to be faster in the beginning with a setting. Overall though, really nice job on this game!

Very cool game idea, i might be misunderstanding how it works but sometimes when i formed 4x4 blocks nothing would happen. Also nice music choice!

This is a really cool take on Tetris. With a bit more polish it could be a great full-fledged game. [edit : for instance, I'd suggest to add rotation movement, if not already possible?)

Also, the BOC retro cover was a nice touch ^^ (could've used a bit more cowbell maybe ;)

Well done !

Developer(+1)

Hi! thank you for playing, ive tried adding the rotation mechanic but its just too messy, the idea is that you can position yourself to attach a proper block

this is my last release with a leaderboard, infinite time, a proper difficulty, and pollished mechanics if you want to try it out! thank you!
about the song, i tried adding the cow bells but they just sounded aweful in 8 bit haha.

Cool game! I really liked the concept. It was fun to play and I enjoyed trying to figure out the best place to attach the blocks. Good job! :D

Developer

Thank you! glad you like it.

Unfortunately the game didn't recognize when I got a 4x4 and I experienced the stated lack of timer working and desync of background and foreground. But apart from that the concept of collecting tetronimoes in a rush was very fun! Got kinda stuck when my 4x4 didn't clear...  If I could add one thing apart from fixing those bugs it would be a pentomino mode which has a wider grid, requires 5x5, and uses pentominoes. I liked what I could do though!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing! thats weird, remember that the players block doesnt count to form the 4x4, and thanks for the feedback!

The main mechanics here work really well together! I like how unweildly you become eventually, making it tricky to navigate, those grey blocks especially are a great idea to impede movement! I got a 4x4 but I don't think the game recognized it, which is unfrtunate but I still got the idea of the game and really liked it! My game also includes some of the tetris pieces as mechanics, so I applaud you for implementing moving them like this, it can be deceptively difficult, really great work!

Developer

Thank you! yes, almost 80% of dev time was for the main mechanic, pretty difficult and changed mid way, I did fix somethings and will be releasing a more stable version after rating period ends

Great twist on tetris! I liked the idea a lot and the game was very fun. Two remarks: 1) missed opportunity for the sound track to be some kind of remix of the iconic tetris theme. 2) Feels weird to end the game with a timer-- would feel more organic to end the game when the player gets too big and is stuck or something (but maybe have ways to get smaller for the player, like doing full rows like in tetris? idk, things to consider).

In the end a very creative one, 5/5 on innovation, good job there!

Developer

Thank you! all feedback is welcome and will be adding and fixing things for a post review release

This could be a really addictive game, this is a very nice twist on tetris!

I would wish for a indication of where the blocks will stop moving/ game over state.

Great Work!

Developer

Thank s for all the feedback! will be adding some fixes after rates are over

interesting idea, bugs here and there but if it could be improved post jam i would play it again.

i suck at tetris so i just died with score 0 lol second time just got 1

good job tho genuinely interesting take on an alternate tetris

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thank you! This is my first jam and learned a lot since day 1. also after the submission I've started to work on the bug fixing, what I wanted to do was focus on the main mechanic of the attachment and scoring. I've been upload a current release, stable and ballances. Also been adding QoL things from recent feedbacks. The idea was it was the life o a block from a tetris game, it should be ending with the block falling into a tetris game and scoring rows, also the idea of an endless run should be easy to implement.

Thanks for the feedback!

Really cool idea, lots of fun to play! Well done! The game wouldn't restart for me after game over, had to reload page to play again.

Developer

Thanks for playing! Yes, I had issues with restarting all variables on game restart (last minute rush haha)

Really cool concept! I just wished you could rotate the blocks.

Developer

Thank you! I'm currently working on adding continuous movement (holding the arrow key keeps moving the block) and will also try to add the block rotation and see how it fits.

Submitted(+1)

Nice game, would be great to be able to rotate the blocks.

In case I missed something or got some one-off bugs I have skipped rating this game for now. I may consider to try to play it again if I can. Even with the explanation on itch.io, I tried pressing every button it said and clicking, etc. but nothing works at all, there's nothing happening on the screen. What tips might anyone have? Thanks.

Developer

Hello! Thanks for leaving a comment, you can move with arrow keys and press spacebar to attach to other block, the idea is to form 4x4 areas to score points

Submitted(+1)

Nice idea ! The gameplay feels unique !

Developer

Thank you!
