The vibes an environment are great for a horror game! I think this could be improved by making the mechanics clearer, and adding a tutorial. You already noticed that the clipboard is hard to see, it took me a while to see the matches too. I wonder if we need to pick up the matches at all, what does picking up a matchbox add to the gameplay?

Cool take on the theme, and great work on the environment!

Love the look at atmosphere of this one. Hard to be 100% what the mechanics are, but I think that kinda adds to the appeal of a backrooms type game. Would have loved to see more changes between loops, though that might defeat the purpose... nice entry.

thanks for playing!
ideally, I had the thought of having things appear/disappear in the room under certain conditions.

Such as blood splatters appearing when going through the wrong door, occasional hallucinations, something interesting appearing on the floor at 3:00am, or the clock hands updating to represent the time stated.

Looking back, I think I tried something too "novel" to work out in a week.

Maybe so.. though I think with a few tweaks and a bit more time this could turn out to be an interesting linear "point and click adventure" set in the backrooms 'universe'. I'm not sure if that's been done before, worth looking into! GL with your future projects :)

The graphics and game are fun. I like the spooky ambiance. I was able to reach until 5th room max. For some reason, I didn't understand what's the use of matchsticks.
Overall a good entry for this jam. Congratulations :)

Developer

thanks for playing.
Although poorly communicated, the matchsticks are used to check if an open door is good or bad.

But I failed to properly indicate how to use them and what they mean.

(also the room counter is bugged and stops at 6 instead of 8 x_x)

The visuals and audio were awesome! I enjoyed that very much!

Developer

thanks for playing!

definitely not my best work though (gameplay itself needs improvement)

but i'm glad you found it worthwhile.

I liked graphics, nice backrooms vibes

Developer(+1)

thanks for playing.

yeah i thought I'd take a shot at making a backrooms-esque game.

bit harder than i thought.

I liked the overall idea and the animations were very smooth. I was initially pretty lost and went to the same doors, but after a bit I finally understood and it was a decent puzzle. I think if the items were highlighted more I would have known to hover over them.

Developer

thanks for the feedback

i rly should have made the items flash or something to get the player's attention

I'm glad that at least the gameloop seems engaging.

I liked the atmosphere, but I couldn't really tell what to do. I didn't notice any pattern to follow or anything like that. At one point I got to 4 going through the same door over and over again.

Developer

yeah i realize that the game-loop is pretty esoteric,

with the biggest problem being that the goal, rules, and mechanics were communicated rather poorly.

perhaps a REDUX (separate of the jam) should be in order.

Could be cool. Like I said, the atmosphere was great.

Sound hurt my ears and i don't get the goal of this game

Developer

sry to hear that.

I didn't communicate the goals/rules of this game very well as I had it written on a tiny clipboard on the floor.

I'll bear that in mind on my next project.
